Thank You!

Hello Owls! Wow, it is finally the last month of our term together. I have to say that it honestly feels very bittersweet. I am so proud of everything that we have accomplished this term, but I still wish that we still had a little more time together. It has been my greatest honor serving you all this term. I wouldn't give up the experiences I've had this past year for the world. Thanks to you, I have learned the true meaning of servant leadership, service, and compassion. At times, I have to admit, being a Lieutenant Governor was very hard. I constantly felt that I wasn't good enough or that I could be doing more. Sometimes I would feel so overwhelmed with my workload that I wouldn't know what to do, but whenever I would go to service events or DCMs and talk to you all, I would feel so much better. I knew that at the end of the day, you all saw past my shortcomings and were there for me as a friend, as an Ohana. Thank you so much for everything you have done this term. Thank you for your time, compassion, and dedication to this organization. Thank you for filling my term with amazing memories that I will never forget. Thank you for being a part of my Ohana. Serving to Make a Change, JiMin Margarett Lee

On March 18th, Division 38 West held the March DCM/Service Project at Paraclete High School. LTG-Elect Aubrey Gilman did a fantastic job running her first DCM. We are sure to have an outstanding term ahead! We began the day with our service project, which involved making cards and letters for the elderly at Mayflower Gardens. During the meeting, we were honored to have past LTG Hyeveen Cho lead the Key Club pledge!

After the meeting, we played two games that encouraged everyone to move around and get to know each other better. The March DCM was a great success!

On March 2nd, Paraclete’s Key Club helped put on the semi-annual Paraclete Blood Drive. The donated blood is either used for beneficial research or emergency situations, giving our service a meaningful purpose. Thanks to the work of the PHS Key Club, the events ran smoothly and the students who donated were well cared for! [Submitted by: Ethan Hund]

This month we had over 14 people run for next year’s Key Club Board, which is the largest number of people running that we’ve had ever. The elections took over 4 days because of the many people running. During the next meeting, we handed out certificates of appreciation to all the people who ran because they all did a wonderful job. [Submitted by: Arrianna Tadiosa]

This past month, Quartz Hill High School held a fundraiser at Blaze Pizza to raise funds for DCON. Currently, we are working on collecting old t-shirts to make dog toys for the local shelter. Because the term is coming to a close, we decided to have each member wrote down any suggestions that we could implement into the upcoming term. We believe that this will be very helpful to the incoming officers. [Submitted by: Triveni Patel]

RECOGNITIONS Member of the Month: Arrianna Tadiosa The member of the month for March is Arrianna Tadiosa! Arrianna is currently a junior at SOAR High School and has been in key club since her freshman year. She has been loyal to her club/division and in fact she just been elected to being secretary for the upcoming term. We are very honor to have Arrianna in key club and to see what more she has in store. Arrianna deserves to be member of the month because she has the drive to just keep giving. This month she went out of her way to advertise the Thirst Project as much as possible so more people can see the importance of the global water crisis. Along with that, she made awareness cards for people to wear around their necks, which was a cute little surprise. Arrianna has been very active in this club and overall, she is always showing people that it doesn't matter who you are because you can make a difference now!

Club of the Month: Quartz Hill This month, Quartz Hill High School Key Club has participated in Good Will Clothing Drive where members donated used clothes. They are currently collecting T-Shirts to make hand made dog toys and donate. The current officers communicate frequently to prepare for new service projects and fundraisers. With the new officer board elected, the old board is planning on having a training meeting to prepare for upcoming year and train the new board accordingly. The current president receives division updates/information and finds them very helpful. Any important information given by the DLT gets posted on weekly agendas to ensure that the members are aware of it. The president believes that the DLT is doing an amazing job at serving the division, and she currently doesn't have any other suggestions.

Hello Owls, Editing this month’s newsletter has most definitely been bittersweet—this is my last publication of the term! On one hand, I am extremely grateful for all of the lessons I have learned, friendships I have formed, and memories I have made as Division News Editor. On the other, I am saddened to think this may be the last closing message I write to you! As I reflect on my term, I can only hope that my publications have kept you informed and inspired to serve your home, school, and community to the best of your ability! I am so sincerely grateful for the opportunities I have had to serve you, and I would like to thank each and every one of you for motivating me to strive for greatness. I promise I will continue to strive as I serve you in the upcoming term! As a division, we have a lot to look back on and be proud of: numerous fundraisers benefiting the Pediatric Trauma Program and Project Eliminate, hundreds of service hours, and countless moments spent making meaningful connections with members of our community. To all the seniors, I hope you continue to spread your passion for service throughout college and beyond. Take with you all the lessons you have learned on your Key Club journey, and look back on the memories with joy. To all the underclassmen, don’t forget to enjoy each and every moment along the way, from reciting the Key Club Pledge to attending conventions. It goes by more quickly than you may think! I wish you OWL the best of luck in your future endeavors! Service is my purpose, Jade Phoreman Division 38 West News Editor 2016-2017
