Message From Your LTG Hello Owls, happy January! New year, new division! The DLT is coming back better than ever so that you guys can really enjoy and remember this term as it begins to wind down. On the topic of winding down, we have only three more months together. Three more months of division events and meetings. Three more months of Owl pride. Three more months of serving together as one family. Three more months of officer submissions. And for me, three more months of the greatest year of my life. Just the thought of leaving this organization after it has given so much to me makes me so emotional. Owls, you are all my pride and joy and I feel so fortunate to have served you over the course of this term; however, it’s not over yet! I want us to end the year stronger than ever and really reach for the stars as we welcome a new Lieutenant Governor elect into her position for the upcoming term. It’s time to go all out and make the most of the time that we have together. Remember that club dues need to be paid for as soon as possible so that our division can be 100% dues paid! We also need to start planning for DCON and figuring out the finances that will go along with that trip as well. I can’t wait to see you OWL soon, 2018’s got nothing on the Owls!

With Wings of Service, Aubrey Gilman

Recognitions Member of the Month:Hanna Hoang

For the month of January, Quartz Hill Key Club’s Member of the Month is Hannah Hoang! Hannah is one of our new members this year, and she has shown so much involvement ever since she joined! Her smile never leaves her face, and her positivity makes everyone else smile as well. Hannah loved her first Fall Rally last November, and cannot wait to attend more Key Club events. She is eager to participate in service projects, and her kind-hearted desire to help others has inspired everyone in our club. She is also excited to attend her first Conclave this year! Her love for this club is continuously growing, and we are excited for her journey in Key Club in the future.

Officer of the Month: Arrianna Tadiosa

Arrianna Tadiosa, a senior at SOAR High School, has been awarded with Officer of the Month! For this term, she is serving as the secretary and been striving to make everything has orderly as possible. Arrianna has a bright personality and always shows the club that imagination is power. She is creative, caring, and the club so grateful to have her be apart of the team!

As always, Mr. Olmstead has been a source of consistent, invaluable support for Paraclete. He is always available to answer questions and provide guidance when needed. We are very appreciative of everything Mr. Olmstead does for us!

Faculty Advisor of the Month: Ms. Kaitlin Huerta

Ms. Huerta has consistently been a dedicated, hard-working, and caring advisor. Despite being new this year, Ms. Huerta has been able to step up and run the club as if she has been doing so for years. She is always willing to do whatever necessary to ensure the success of the club, and we are very grateful!

Spotlight on Service January Focus: Children's Miracle Network

Children's Miracle Network (CMH) Hospitals raise funds and awareness for 170 hospitals that provide 32 million treatments each year to kids across the U.S. and Canada.

Fundraising Ideas Movie Night: Organize a movie night to both fundraise for CMH and provide a fun, bonding event for your club. You can sell tickets at the door and even sell snacks at your event.

Carnations for CMH: Carnations and other flowers are great items to sell for just $1. Set up a booth to sell the flowers and encourage your members to purchase a flower for a loved one. 9

Service Project Ideas Non-Slip Socks: Make non-slip socks with fabric paint to keep patients warm and safe during their stay at the hospital. Encourage members to be creative and colorful with their designs.

Toiletry Kits: Many families with a child in the hospital come unprepared to spend the night. Assembling and donating toiletry kits will give the families one less thing to think about during stressful situations. Hospital Visit: Clubs can reach out to hospitals to plan hospital visit events for pediatric wards. Throwing a party, movie night, or game night can help the pediatric patients feel normal despite having to stay in the hospital. Ideas by the CNH Service Projects Committee

DNE'S Closing Message Hey Owls! Happy New Year! It is 2018 and I hope you are all ready to finish this term off strong with service! It is quite sad to think that the end of the term. I’m going to miss this position and all of our wonderful seniors so much! This year has been so special with making these newsletters for you all, the new friendships I've made, the memories created... Really, I've loved everything about this year and this has undoubtedly been my favorite thus far. But let’s focus on the now! First, Conclave is on the 20th, which means that by the time this is published, we will already know who the next LTG is, which is insane! Also, I am SUPER excited for the February DCM/ Dance Marathon! I’m sure our legs will be dead but if that’s the sacrifice we have to make for funds for DCON and to help out our fellow Californians, then BRING IT ON! Until next month Owls! ~ Mariah Hernandez Division News Editor 11
