ARTICLES AND VISUALS JASMINE MCLENNAN DISHES ON PIZZA! A few weeks ago D38W had a fundraiser at a local Vince's Pasta & Pizza. All we had to do was buy food and tell the workers we were donating to Key Club for ELIMINATE then we'd get 20% of the money. Our Division Leadership Team and a few others showed up. Though it was a small crowd, we had a good time abs also encouraged other customers to donate. It lasted from 5pm-9pm during that time we made $50 so we took home $10. With that we have saved about 5 mothers and their children. - Jasmine Mclennan

JANNAH VILLAFLOR ON VINCE’S PIZZA The fundraiser was a very fun bonding experience. Although not many people came, the small number of attendees allowed us to spend more time with each of her. We had an early dinner of pizza and pasta at one of the larger corner tables, talking and working on summer work the whole time through. After staying at the table for an hour and a half, we decided to end the day with some frozen yogurt for desert across the parking lot. Even though the event’s attendance was very low, we still had a great time and it was a good learning experience for the do’s and don'ts of hosting a fundraiser. - Jannsh Villaflor

ARTICLES AND VISUALS SUSHIEL KANGAKAR’S GETTING TO KNOW THE FRESHMAN I arrived at the Quartz Hill High School to spread the word about key club at freshman orientation. I set up with table along with other members. Brittnee Bui, our club president, arrived shortly after with the key club flag, flyers, and sign up sheets. As the evening continued, the freshman came to our booth and we spoke about key club and our services and goals for this year. We got about 30 sign ups, which is a lot more than we expected. The DJ began to play music and everyone was dancing. I danced with key club members, freshman, and friends for the rest of the night. It was a fantastic experience. - Sushiel Kangakar

I joined Key Club because I really love the idea of giving back to my community but I didn’t know how. KI was told that Key Club was all about community service which I thought was just amazing. This year I plan on participating in more community service opportunities because they are fun, humbling, and useful to my future. This club is not only fun, it makes me feel good about myself and it makes me feel like my time in High School is not wasted. I have also noticed I am not as shy as I used to be when I first joined key club. I mean how could I be? Every meeting and Key Club event we are doing chants and ice breakers, it’s virtually impossible to maintain any kind of shyness. Key club is a great club for me and I really hope there are opportunities like this in college as well.

CLUB OF THE MONTH CONGRATS SOAR HIGH SCHOOL

For the two years that SOAR High Schools Key Club has been active, I am very proud of the progress we have made in both our school and community. As a club we are very excited to be a part of Division 38 West and the amazing clubs that are included. Everyone is so supportive and friendly it truly feels as though we are one big family. We hope that with this new school year our club will be able to reach our goal of 40 community service hours per member, and be able to raise $100 for both PTP and Project Eliminate. We also hope to put on more large scale community service projects and team up with other clubs so that we may reach our common goal of improving the community around us. S.O.A.R High School's Co. President, Tori Collins

T he

Pediatric Trauma Progra Program m

What is PTP? The Pediatric Trauma Program was established by the Kiwanis Cali - Nev - Ha Foundation in 1994, focusing on the needs for education and training in injury prevention and pediatric trauma. Their mission statement is Ęşto develop local projects, which will reduce the number of children in our district who are killed or injured by trauma.Ęş The leading cause of death among children ages 14 and under in the United States is pediatric trauma, or unintentional injury. Every year, more children die from easily be preventable pediatric trauma than all childhood diseases combined!

What Can I Do To Help? You can help your club and the division provide awareness and prevent pediatric trauma by making sure the community is educated on safety and any possible hazards, having a donation drive on items such as bicycle helmets and child safety seats, and much, much more! You can also assist the children that were involved in trauma by collecting items of comfort, such as stuffed animals and blankets, to donate. You can even make cards to help cheer up the children!

Project

E L I M I N AT E

A birth of a newborn is a joyous event in any lifetime. However, in 38 different countries, that amazing event can quickly turn into a tragedy. With the YOU Eliminate Project, Kiwanis InternaARE READY TO HELP? tional and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease takes the life of one baby every nine minutes — nearly 60,000 innocent babies every year. That’s 60,000 babies a year that will never grow up, play with friends, hear their mother’s laugh, or even dream about their future. A significant number of women also die due to maternal tetanus. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. District Project PROJECT JUMP START Last year, the California-Nevada-Hawaii District began a new district project: Project Jump Start. This 2-year project is geared towards providing children from ages 0-5 a jump start during the most crucial years of an infant’s life. Project Jump Start is a great way to give back to your communities and give infants the jump start they need to succeed, one baby step at a time. The potential of Division 38 West is more than enough to make an impact on our communities through Project Jump Start. Project Jump Start allows children to have a successful childhood, and to one day grow to be competent, caring leaders like each and every one of us are today. By providing this support to young children, we are giving them the opportunity to grow and become strong-willed individuals. Not only does this project affect our communities, but it goes as far as to provide a benefit to children internationally. By focusing on children’s education, health, safety, and wellbeing – we will be giving children all around the world equal opportunities to have a fresh and vibrant beginning, a jump start. Now here’s the fun part: how to get involved. Simply, by finding a project, or even better, making your own. Working with local organizations is a great way to get involved in the District Project. Even Key Club International’s service partners: UNICEF, Children’s Miracle Network, and March of Dimes support our objectives in Project Jump Start. The amounts of service projects are endless, so what are you waiting for? I’m looking forward to hearing about your club participating in Project Jump Start. By submitting articles, visuals, and a description of your project to Sushiel Kangakar at d38w.cnhkc.divnews@gmail.com, you have a chance to be spotlighted on the CNH Cyberkey for the whole district to see your involvement in the District Project. Subjects in any visuals you submit must sign a photo release form, which can be found on the Cyberkey. Together, Division 38 West can make an impact: one baby step at a time.
