Lieutenant Governor’s Greeting Dear Members and Officers of Division Nine of the New York District Key Club, Happy New Year Key Clubbers! As we said goodbye to 2014, we accomplished many things like being the 3rd most active division (in terms of service). However, the Leadership Training Conference is right around the corner and that means we have to push harder than ever before to fundraise and continue serving our homes, schools, and communities. I am proud of what we have done, now lets keep it up and finish with a bang. As I said, the Leadership Training Conference is right around the corner (t-minus 60 days) and Division Nine is out to make a presence and quite the entrance. Please inform your club officers if you would to go and be apart of this fantastic end of year celebration. See you there! Yours In Service, Clifford Young Lieutenant Governor New York District of Key Club International cliffordyoung.ltg@nydkc.org

Executive Assistant’s Update Dear Members and Officers of Division Nine of the New York District Key Club, Like LTG Clifford said, I wish you all a Happy New Year! I can’t wait to join him in visiting Key Clubs around the division throughout the next few months. Lets do our best to keep doing service and show Division Nine spirit. No one can serve like true ‘Brooklynites’ can! As the new year rolls around I hope to see a lot of new faces in Key Club and its events. I’m excited to see members at the Ice Skating Event next month, so please come out and support the Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation! See you there! (60 DAYS TILL LTC!) Yours In Service, Timmy Dhakaia Divisional Executive Assistant New York District of Key Club International tdhakaia@gmail.com

Mapleton Kiwanis Board and Club Meeting (1/20/15) On January 20, 2015, the Mapleton Kiwanis Board and Club Meeting took place at Theresa’s Place in Dyker Heights. Upon arriving, I was greeted by Mr. Corace, who directed me inside the restaurant and introduced me to Mrs. Neuringer and the other Kiwanians who were present. I was a bit confused because the scene did not look much like a meeting; everyone was all smiles with party hats on to celebrate “Mom’s 95th Birthday” and all the other January birthday! Eventually, I realized that this “meeting” was more informal and more celebration than relaying updates. I saw one familiar face: Mr. Grashow, who works with the US Africa Children’s Fellowship, whom I helped with loading containers in the past. Overall, I found the meeting quite interesting; it was interesting to learn about all the service projects that the Kiwanians took part in during the holiday season, while also seeing their sense of humor (why, there was tons of laughter!). Additionally, the food was extremely delicious and of such big proportions - I didn’t even have enough room for cake! I had a great time meeting all of the Mapleton Kiwanians and cannot wait to attend the next board meeting! Sandy Mui Key Club Bulletin Editor Brooklyn Technical High School

Mulch Fest (1/10/15) At the Mulch Fest on January 10th, many volunteers received several jobs in order to help their community. Held at McCarren Park, individuals were given a choice to shovel mulch, dump on trees or rake. Despite the distracting smell of the pine trees, everybody was busy and had a job to do. At our first location, we spent roughly 45 minutes assisting each other pouring the mulch on various trees. The cold breeze added restriction to our labor but we got the job done. After, we spread mulch around our first section of the park. Later, we moved to a point two minutes away, where we did the same thing. Some of us switched jobs while others decided to stay the same. On the other hand, the event was very enjoyable. Most of us were sore the next day but not even the cold weather was able to separate us in helping our community. January Divisional Meeting (1/21/15) During the January divisional, after the meeting, it really inspired me to do even more service, to enhance our club members interests in charity, fundraising and voluntary actions. I believe that with these divisionals that we hold monthly help us as officials create a baseline in improving our ability of leadership and in building new bonds with other charities/voluntary projects. I can’t wait to meet more members at future divisionals!!! Debbie Chan The January Divisional Meeting was held on Key Club Vice President January 21st, 2015 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Midwood High School. This divisional focused on Abraham Lincoln High School Lieutenant Governor candidates, the Leadership Training Conference, and Report Forms. 53 division members were present! Jď Š
