On behalf of all the members at Albany United FC, we would like to acknowledge and THANK the following foundations for their contributions
Albany United Football Club Rashaad VAHED President’s Message We welcome everyone to Rosedale Park for what we trust will be an enjoyable day of football.
A huge thank you to all the volunteers, managers, coaches, supporters, staff, sponsors and my fellow board members for all your hard work in making our club successful.
This year marks the clubs 39th season and we hope to add to the clubs great history while building a sustainable club for the future.
To the hard work the squad puts in every week, Thank You. You wear the club jersey and colours with pride that stands testament to many people that currently and previously put in to make our club a success and a home. Our past is important to remember so we don't’ forget who we are while creating new history. So Thank you to everyone in the club.
Around the club we haven’t had a great start to the season. Despite the funds spent on the surface at rosedale 1&2, the damage left by harbour softball has meant we are down to 2 fields out of 5. It’s a hope now to have the fields back in action by next week.
Off field we have had some numerous challenges noticeably with no allocation of a suitable fields to train on preseason and well this is practically no different for the season. Dedicated fields is one of the most challenging aspects of our strategic plan.
Successfully though we started on plans set by the Junior Committee for this year. Feedback has been superb by our members and we still have much to do for this year. This week saw the start of our cluster training. Sam, Kieron and Ross really well done and superb. Thank you. Overall our junior results are looking outstanding and the joyment im seeing is tremendous when I walk around Saturday morning.
Today’s main fixture we welcome Claudelands Rovers squad and their supporters to the ‘Dale for the NRFL fixture. A disappointing last week saw us lose the game in the first half but the pride shown in the second half is what should be the base layer of every performance. I know the squad will be eager today to put things right.
Best of luck to our coaching and management staff and the squad for their respective fixtures today.
To all our Senior teams both home and away; U19s, Africans, Wanderers, Athletic, Humble, Red, Champs, Brewers, Colombians, North End, Watsons Heroes, Devils Rock, Redmen, Undertakers, Nortons, Originals and our Women’s team ….. do us proud.
Welcome to all our opposition and supporters to Rosedale. I wish you an enjoyable day and invite you to relax in our clubrooms after
Albany United Football Club Junior Committee The Junior Committee have worked tirelessly over the early parts of this year to get cluster trainings up and running for the Midgets which successfully started this week. Kieron Henare, ran the first sessions on Tuesday and Thursday with excellent feedback from the coaches and teams that attended
Cluster trainings is a new initiative for Albany UTD and we believe that this will help create a community within the club and not only help develop players but also coaches as a group. It means the club can provide more support to the parent coaches that very kindly give up their time every week to take the teams and hopefully helps coaches with some ideas and activities for the kids to enjoy, engage in, and also develop their footballing abilities and skills as players.
Another big thank you to Josh Taylor and Cameron Woods from Albany Wanderers who also volunteered their time to help the next generation of first team players

Albany United Football Club Game Report - COLOMBIANS
opposition, with Rorinho’s men now winning 4/4. It was the ever consistent skipper Liam Young that scored for the home side on the day after a high press from midfield led to him winning the ball high up the field. Young then took a touch down the line only to deliver a miss-hit cross that saw its way in to the far
Colombians win three in a row. On their home debut at Rosedale Park, the Colombians managed to take all three points in a scrappy fixture to take them to 9 points from 3 games. This marks the 4th time the Colombians have faced off against the Glenfield Youthz, more than any other corner of the goal. Statisticians are left to ponder whether this should go down as a goal or an assist. Bad tackles were kept to a minimum as the referee was actually armed with a whistle this week, though keeper muppet would argue the stud marks on his chest proves the opposite. Other than the opening goal in the first 5 minutes, nothing much happened in the game really. With the ball spending 80% of the game down the bank by the pitch, fullbacks were well worked as they practiced their shuttle runs on the hill. Donations for footballs would be welcome as at least 15 balls were lost down the treacherous slope which leads to the despair of being an Aston Villa fan. Liam Young was in inspired form, having at least one more shot and beating his personal juggling record of 5, however it was the Colombians defence that was the real hero on the day. Reuben ‘I’m way taller than you’ Stanley was shutting down every attack that the Youthz mustered. Stanley was assured under the high ball as always and looked to start attacks from the back with his philosophy on maintaining posession. The defence was also boosted by the debut of star defender Kenners who was making his comeback from his annual injury. Kenners produced a fantastic double tackle late on in the piece leading coach Rorinho to state “ Ja, Ja, I’ve had my eye on him for a long time, and so long as he stay’s fit he’ll do a fantastic job starting from the bench.” Next Match: Waitakere Aarque (A), Fred Taylor Drive, 23/04 1pm.

Albany United Football Club Reserve Team Comments Gary Hogg Reserves Coaching Team
Albany United welcome Claudelands and their supporters to ‘The Fortress.’
After only just losing last week’s first home game against Waitemata and not getting the rub of the green, with some questionable refereeing decisions not going our way. We fully plan to get back to winning ways and continue our success and form from last year. Our squad is playing and training really well and as this is quite a new squad, we are growing in confidence with every game and partnerships are starting to gel.
Our aim is to replicate how we have been training over the last few weeks and come away with the right result from today’s game.
To my guys I personally ‘Thank you’ all for the efforts this week and how hard you are all contesting for a starting spot. All I can say is keep believing in yourselves and each other, keep fighting hard. I can’t wait to see all the hard work you have all put in at training finishing up with a win today, not just for us but for the ‘Red Army’.
To Claudlands, we have been wounded with recent results and looking to put things right. We have our sights set firmly on you.
A massive thank you to Mahmoud, ‘The Godfather’ Bill and Rash for their dedication to this team.
Josh Anderson Reserves Team Captain Last week saw our first home game of the season against the newly promoted Waitemata. Some interesting refereeing decisions saw us go down 1-0 early, as a penalty was awarded against us for a “handball”. We didn’t let that unsettle us, and by half time we had managed to take the lead. Goals from Scott Vine and Manoocher Zarif saw us go into the sheds 2-1 up. It was from there things started to get a bit sticky. Some bad luck, and some further contentious refereeing decisions saw us slip to 4-2 down somewhat against the run of play. A late consolation o.g. saw us pull it back to 4-3, but that was how it ended. Player of the Day – Kev Carter It’s been a bit of a reality check for us thus far. After finishing 2nd last season we started this year with high expectations; four games into the season, and we’ve already lost 3 games. We only lost 3 games in the whole of last season! This week we welcome Claudelands who are the only team between us, and last place. We will be looking to this week to kickstart our season, and we really need to start to get results if we want to have any chance of pushing on in the league. No one will be taking the game for granted, as we know all too well how quickly teams can turn things around in this league.
Hope to see you all in the clubrooms!
“I would not be bothered if we lost every game as long as we won the league.” - Mark Viduka

Albany United Football Club Game Report - AFRICANS
16/04/16 The first goal came after some industrious work from playmaker Ethan Neville. The ball popped out to Aidan Wivell who smashed into the upper 90. The second goal came soon after, and this time it was the maestro Bravo Petreski (BAS) who delivered a sumptuous cross to the back post. Constable Tim Neville arrested the opportunity and made it 2:0. Wivell made it 3:0 by playing a one two with Alexis Duffin, rounding the keeper like Hazard, and tapping in, not like Hazard. Later on, Duffin decided to dare, and went on a slippery dribble which of course resulted in a penalty. Normal penalty taker Paul O'Leary allowed Wivell to step up and complete his hat-trick. Tim Neville grabbed another goal, tapping in Kyle Myburgh's pinpoint cross from the right wing. Towards the end of the game, Cam Martin upended Jack Beguely in the box and a penalty was awarded. The penalty was scored, but forced to be retaken due to two players encroaching. The second take was well saved by O'Leary in the Africans' goal. In typical Africans fashion, a late goal was conceded. Kevin de Bruyne (on loan at Takapuna) managed to squeeze one in with 12 minutes to go. Next match: 2:45pm / Rosedale Park #2 / vs Albany United Wanderers Stay tuned to find out this week's 80 Days Man of the Match and Big Black Sacks NZ Sack of the Week!
Albany United Football Club Sponsors
Albany United FC would like to acknowledge and Thank Ross Nicholson and RE3DE3M for their contributions to the and club.
Albany United Football Club First Team Comments Welcome to coaches Richard Harris & Rodi Rojas and all the staff players and supporters of Claudelands Rovers to Rosedale park today for what promises to be an entertaining fixture.
Four rounds into the season and Claudelands have made a similar start to the season as Albany, with both teams having one win to their credit alongside three defeats. Both sides are a single place apart in the table, separated only by goal difference, so there is much at stake today for both teams as defeat could see one pulled back towards a relegation battle, whilst victory would see the other move into a position of mid-table security. It sounds as if Claudelands have a relatively young team much the same as Albany. So perhaps the wise money today is on a draw, unless of course one piece of magic could steer the result and valuable 3-points towards one team or the other.
For Albany, last weekend’s 4-0 defeat at home to Waitemata was a truly disappointing performance after all the hard work and effort that’s gone into training. For sure Waitemata are a quality side, but the first-half really was a bit of a non-contest as they set about building a well-deserved 3-0 HT lead. Into the second-half and Albany finally started to play some composed football in possession, with the boys growing in confidence and creating half-chances of our own. Jack Hadfield put in a man-of-thematch performance to keep the impressive George Curry quiet throughout the half and the rest of the team started to show some appetite for the battle to win the 50/50 challenges. We deserved to edge the second half with a goal of our own as reward for a much improved performance but unfortunately a late goal for Waitemata enabled them to extend their winning margin just before the final whistle.
So ultimately the main lesson from last week has to be that the team starts the game as we mean to go on, by building on that second-half performance and playing the full 90 minutes with self-belief, commitment and pride in the jersey.
We thank the ‘Red Army’ for your vocal support last weekend and hope to put in a more committed performance and give you something you can really get behind and encourage our young players. With any luck the weather gods will be kind and we will enjoy some fine autumn sunshine in which to watch an entertaining game of football.
In closing ….. I wish all of our travelling guests from Claudelands a safe and speedy return journey home to Hamilton.
All the best, Tel Sheehy First Team Coach
