On behalf of all the members at Albany United FC, we would like to acknowledge and THANK the following foundations for their contributions

Albany United Football Club Rashaad VAHED President’s Message We welcome everyone to Rosedale Park for what we trust will be an enjoyable day of football.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers, managers, coaches, supporters, staff, sponsors and my fellow board members for all your hard work in making our club successful.

This year marks the clubs 39th season and we hope to add to the clubs great history while building a sustainable club for the future.

To the hard work the squad puts in every week, Thank You. You wear the club jersey and colours with pride that stands testament to many people that currently and previously put in to make our club a success and a home. Our past is important to remember so we don't’ forget who we are while creating new history. So Thank you to everyone in the club.

Around the club we progressing exceptionally well in all aspects we wanted to achieve this year. Our midgets are going outstanding and enjoying the game while the cluster training is proving to be a key launch in meeting its purposes. Our juniors are seeing benefit in the training and coaching while not loosing the basics of football. Our youth are some what struggling to find their way thru grading so should level out after grading.

Off field we have had some numerous challenges noticeably with no allocation of a suitable fields to train on pre-season and well this is practically no different for the season. Dedicated fields is one of the most challenging aspects of our strategic plan.

Successfully though we started on plans set by the Junior Committee for this year. Feedback has been superb by our members and we still have much to do for this year.

Today’s main fixture we welcome back Te Atatu AFC squad and their supporters to the ‘Dale for the NRFL fixture. A disappointing last week after losing on penalties to Te Atatu in the Chatham Cup saw a far better account of our capabilities. Our growth is clear to see as week the team is stepping up a level. I know the squad will be eager today to put things right.

To all our other visitors across the football community, welcome to Rosedale.

Best of luck to our coaching and management staff and the squad for their respective fixtures today.

To all our Senior teams both home and away; U19s, Africans, Wanderers, Athletic, Humble, Red, Champs, Brewers, Colombians, North End, Watsons Heroes, Devils Rock, Redmen, Undertakers, Nortons, Originals and our Women’s team ….. do us proud.

Welcome to all our opposition and supporters to Rosedale. I wish you an enjoyable day and invite you to relax in our clubrooms after

Albany United Football Club First Team Comments Once again we welcome everyone involved with Te Atatu AFC back to Rosedale Park for the second of our two encounters within the space of seven days. This time we return to NRFL Division Two action after enjoying a thrilling Chatham Cup 1st Round game last weekend which was finally only decided on penalties with the sides still level after extra-time.

Let me start by congratulating Te Atatu on their hard fought victory last weekend and wishing them the best of luck for the next round of the Chatham Cup when they host their local rivals Oratia Utd in the ‘battle of the west’.

The Cup game swung initially in favour of Albany Utd, thanks to an Alex McTiernan goal in the 44th min to ensure Albany led at halftime. Te Atatu struck back midway through the 2nd half via a Lome Fanifuti goal to level the scores and turn the momentum towards the away team, although Albany were able to hold out and normal time finished with the two sides locked at 1-1. Into extra-time and Te Atatu looked to have seized the initiative and the game thanks to a fine headed goal from Ricky Kawaga to take a 2-1 lead. The response from Albany was almost immediate and within a few minutes another fine header from Sam Robertson levelled the scores at 2-2. Despite several chances at both ends of the field and a couple of great saves from either goalkeeper in the last few minutes the sides could not be separated.

With neither side deserving to lose, then came the dreaded penalties …… and what ended up as 3-1 (on pens) victory to Te Atatu.

Whilst we were obviously disappointed to be knocked out in such a manner, I can only say that I was so proud of all the lads in the squad; not only did we put in a full 120min performance to be pleased with, but despite tired legs in the team we showed for the first time some true belief, character and never-say-die attitude to respond to what looked like a knockout blow early in extra-time. The boys were a credit to the jersey and I look forward to seeing if we can now take that belief and hunger into our league campaign.

Thanks once again to all the ‘Red Army’ supporters for creating a great atmosphere last weekend in support of the team. I look forward to the after-match speeches and enjoying a beer or two after the game with our visitors from Te Atatu.

All the best, Tel Sheehy First Team Coach
