On behalf of all the members at Albany United FC, we would like to acknowledge and THANK the following foundations for their contributions

Albany United Football Club President’s Message Rashaad VAHED We welcome everyone to Rosedale Park for what we trust will be an enjoyable day of football. A huge thank you to all the volunteers, managers, coaches, supporters, staff, sponsors and my fellow board members for all your hard work in making our club successful. This year marks the clubs 39th season and we hope to add to the clubs great history while building a sustainable club for the future. To the hard work the squad puts in every week, Thank You. You wear the club jersey and colours with pride that stands testament to many people that currently and previously put in to make our club a success and a home. Our past is important to remember so we don't’ forget who we are while creating new history. So Thank you to everyone in the club. Around the club we progressing exceptionally well in all aspects we wanted to achieve this year. Our midgets are going outstanding and enjoying the game while the cluster training is proving to be a key launch in meeting its purposes. We can now move to our plans and extending play to a wider group of clubs which we have been working on in the background and will be ready to communicate this soon across the midget sector. With grading now over, were hoping the juniors and youth will now see benefit from the coaches and dividends will now pay off in the respective leagues. Off field we still have lots we wish to do and achieve and are not pleased with the progress we are making into the plans and wish list. With not a lot of assistance on the volunteer side, the same around 15 people run the operation week in and week out which puts strain on them looking after anything else or putting time and energy into the strategic matters to make us better. Successfully though we are making small in roads to improving and improving our member experience and meeting our strategic goals nevertheless slower than we would like. For today’s main fixture we welcome Manukau and their supporters to the ‘Dale for the NRFL fixture. We have picked ourselves up and managed to secure some points and grow as a squad. With players coming back from injury the fight for a starting place is becoming a real problem for the coaches and some hard decisions had to be made to ensure the overall picture and continuity of the squad is taken into account. The players are cementing themselves in the club for us to build around which is great to see. We secured 7 out of 12points from the last two away games. Todays task will be no doubt very difficult so hopefully we can get the 6points. To all our other visitors across the football community, welcome to Rosedale. Best of luck to our coaching and management staff and the squad for their respective fixtures today. To all our Senior teams both home and away; Africans, Wanderers, Athletic, Humble, Red, Champs, Brewers, Colombians, North End, Watsons Heroes, Devils Rock, Redmen, Undertakers, Nortons, Originals and our Women’s team ….. do us proud. Welcome to all our opposition and supporters to Rosedale. I wish you an enjoyable day and invite you to relax in our clubrooms after.

Albany United Football Club

Introducing today’s ball boys (and girl!) Albany United 9th Grade Redbacks The team started 4 years ago and has always been predominately made up of students from Albany Primary School. This season there are still 4 players from the original team enjoying their football together. The team trains every Tuesday afternoon at Rosedale in preparation for the eagerly anticipated game on Saturday. Everyone has been enjoying their first season playing on a ¼ size field and also having the opportunity to play other clubs. We are now starting to learn about the different positions on the field and how important teamwork is. Everyone has been looking forward to today’s opportunity to see what happens at a First Team game and get close to the action. With more practice and hard work I am sure we will see some of the Redbacks running out for the first team in a few years. Come on Albany!!

Albany United Football Club Reserve Team Comments Albany United welcome Manukau and their supporters back to ‘The Fortress’ What a start to the season for us….strange results, wiered officiating decisions, staff and players leaving, new players joining and an abundance of injuries. Over the last few weeks we have pushed ourselves and even when it looked like we would not take anything from the game, came away with wins. With a win last week despite the conditions we are putting the pressure back on Taka. We are cementing our place in the top half of the table and proving worthy contenders in the league. We fully plan to keep our winning ways going into today fixture and continue our success and form. Our squad is playing and training with great confidence which is great to see. Our aim is to replicate how we have been training over the last few weeks and come away with the right result from today’s game, a win for us. Today we take on Manukau who despite their placing on the table are a very tough side that just hasn’t clicked. In round 1 we battled for the win and although the scoreline read fancy to us, it was a very hard fought win. We expect nothing less from them today so can not take it for granted because they are in the lower part of the table it will be easy today. We showed character last week to not drop our heads. With every bounce, first phase, tackle, 50/50 balls going Claudelands way. They clearly had a plan that would work for them on their home turf and it paid off for them. We were under immense pressure and were lucky only to concede one. Drawing back gave us huge confidence and with almost all the squad not coping with the conditions, I made call and thankfully it paid off. We got the winner in the 90th minute and even then were lucky and thankfully Murtz took a caution for the team. To my guys I personally ‘Thank you’ all for the efforts and hard work you are all putting in, especially with all the disruption that has been happening recently. All I can say is keep believing in yourselves and each other, keep fighting hard! I can’t wait to see all the hard work you have all put in at training finishing up with another win today, not just for us but for the ‘Red Army’. A massive thank you to ‘The Godfather’ Bill for his dedication to this team and my new supporting staff, Josh for standing in and helping at such a crucial time of the season. All the best and I’ll enjoy having a beer with you back in the clubroom. Gary HOGG Reserve Team Coach

Albany United Football Club First Team Comments I’m pleased to welcome the Kevin Fallon led Manukau City team and all their officials and supporters to Rosedale Park for this NRFL Division Two fixture. In recent weeks Manukau have struck a rich vein, putting in big performances against the top two teams and taking key points to haul themselves up into joint 2nd place on the table. First up was a 2-2 draw away to table topping Takapuna, the only disappointment being a late penalty miss which denied Manukau all three points. In their next fixture, at home to Waitemata, an impressive performance saw them secure all three points in a 4-2 victory over the much fancied Waitemata outfit. They now sit level with Waitemata and four points behind Takapuna with a game in hand on each. The last time Albany and Manakau met, back in round 6, Manukau enjoyed a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Ubaldo Espinoza and Krishneel Krishna. Since then Kevin has strengthened the squad with a number of quality acquisitions including players such as Iwa Shaker & Imraan Shah. So once again I am expecting a tough fixture and a really good test of our development and improvement over the second half of the season. Since the last time of writing, we’ve put in what was probably our best 90 mins of football this season in an impressive 2-2 draw with high-flying Takapuna. Goals from Scott Vine and Leewaine put us in a position to win the game and so we were obviously disappointed when an injury time goal allowed Takapuna to enjoy a share of the spoils. Next we travelled to Waitemata and found ourselves 2-0 down in the first 10 mins, as we showed our opponents too much respect by standing-off and allowing them to play. Thankfully, once the first 30 mins were out of the way we started to claw our way back into the fixture. In the second-half we created a couple of good 1-on-1 chances, which if we’d managed to convert would have made for an interesting last 15-20 mins. Ultimately, the score finished 2-0 and there were several positives we could take out of the game. Last weekend we travelled to Hamilton to take on Claudelands Rovers. The first 45 mins were not our best as we struggled to adapt to the conditions and went into the HT break 1-0 down. A much better second-half performance saw us equalise via a Dev Pohkrel goal (his first of the season), only to fall behind again two mins later. Leewaine Scott then put us back in the game with an equaliser in the 70th min, but despite dominating the last 20 mins and creating several chances we were unable to put one in the back of the net to secure all three points. Either way at this stage of the season, I was pleased with a solid performance on the road and bringing a valuable point back home! Hopefully the weather today will not be as stormy as the forecasts predict and conditions will allow both teams to play some entertaining football. In closing, I look forward to welcoming our guests from Manukau back to the clubhouse for the aftermatch speeches and wish everyone a safe journey back home. Best wishes to all.
