Albany United Football Club Rashaad VAHED President’s Message We welcome everyone to Rosedale Park for what we trust will be an enjoyable day of football. A huge thank you to all the volunteers, managers, coaches, supporters, staff, sponsors and my fellow board members for all your hard work in making our club successful. This year marks the clubs 39th season and we hope to add to the clubs great history while building a sustainable club for the future. To the hard work the squad puts in every week, Thank You. You wear the club jersey and colours with pride that stands testament to many people that currently and previously put in to make our club a success and a home. Our past is important to remember so we don't’ forget who we are while creating new history. So Thank you to everyone in the club. Around the club we progressing exceptionally well in all aspects we wanted to achieve this year. Our midgets are going outstanding and enjoying the game while the cluster training is proving to be a key launch in meeting its purposes. We can now move to our plans and extending play to a wider group of clubs and more festival football. Our juniors are seeing benefit in the training and coaching while not loosing the basics of football. Our youth are some what struggling to find their way thru grading so should level out after grading. Off field we have had some numerous challenges noticeably with no allocation of a suitable fields to train on pre-season and well this is practically no different for the season. Dedicated fields is one of the most challenging aspects of our strategic plan that we are working on. Successfully though we are overcoming and pushing forward and challenging ourselves to look at better and better and the evidence is in the positive move in culture. So thank you all. Today’s main fixture we welcome Onehunga Mangere squad and their supporters to the ‘Dale for the NRFL fixture. A disappointing few weeks after losing on penalties to Te Atatu in the Chatham Cup has seen us hopefully hit our slump and can now focus on moving forward. I know the squad will be eager today to put things right and put the work from training into action. To all our other visitors across the football community, welcome to Rosedale. Best of luck to our coaching and management staff and the squad for their respective fixtures today. To all our Senior teams both home and away; U19s, Africans, Wanderers, Athletic, Humble, Red, Champs, Brewers, Colombians, North End, Watsons Heroes, Devils Rock, Redmen, Undertakers, Nortons, Originals and our Women’s team ….. do us proud. Albany United Football Club First Team Comments This weekend we welcome Nick Russo and ‘The Mountain Men’ from Onehunga Mangere (OM) to Rosedale Park, for what will see us reach the mid-point of the 2016 NRFL Division 2 season! Last year OM put in a strong finish over the second half of the season to finish in a very creditable 5th place. Having managed to retain the majority of the squad from 2015 along with some quality signings, OM started the season with high hopes for a successful 2016 campaign. Currently OM sit in 7th place in the league, three places and four points above Albany, but it should be pointed out that four of their five defeats to-date have been by a single goal margin; including a narrow 2-1 defeat last weekend to the impressive Waitemata team. Turn some of those narrow defeats into victories over the second half of the season and OM could easily put push themselves towards a top four finish. Moving on to Albany’s fortunes and it’s fair to say that since the last time of writing we’ve had a couple of weekends we would rather forget. At times we’ve managed to play some good football and even score a few goals. Unfortunately, at other times we’ve let ourselves down with some basic errors and then gone on to drop our heads and switch off as we’ve just allowed the game to slip away from us. The squad know ‘it simply hasn’t been good enough’ and we need to make amends by starting to put in performances we can all be proud of. The boys have all worked hard in training this week and I’m looking forward to seeing a positive reaction from them out on the field today! Lastly, let’s keep fingers crossed for some decent weather and a chance for both teams to play some entertaining football. I look forward to welcoming all our visitors from OM to the clubhouse for the after-match speeches and enjoying a beer or two after the game. All the best, Tel Sheehy First Team Coach
