On behalf of all the members at Albany United FC, we would like to acknowledge and THANK the following foundations for their contributions

Albany United Football Club President’s Message Rashaad VAHED We welcome everyone to Rosedale Park for what we trust will be an enjoyable day of football. A huge thank you to all the volunteers, managers, coaches, supporters, staff, sponsors and my fellow board members for all your hard work in making our club successful. This year marks the clubs 39th season and we hope to add to the clubs great history while building a sustainable club for the future. To the hard work the squad puts in every week, Thank You. You wear the club jersey and colours with pride that stands testament to many people that currently and previously put in to make our club a success and a home. Our past is important to remember so we don't’ forget who we are while creating new history. So Thank you to everyone in the club. Around the club we progressing exceptionally well in all aspects we wanted to achieve this year. Our midgets are going outstanding and enjoying the game while the cluster training is proving to be a key launch in meeting its purposes. We can now move to our plans and extending play to a wider group of clubs which we have been working on in the background and will be ready to communicate this soon across the midget sector. With grading now over, were hoping the juniors and youth will now see benefit from the coaches and dividends will now pay off in the respective leagues. We hosted a success 60 team festival and already calendar is locked in for next years anniversary festival. Off field we still have lots we wish to do and achieve and are not pleased with the progress we are making into the plans and wish list. With not a lot of assistance on the volunteer side, the same around 15 people run the operation week in and week out which puts strain on them looking after anything else or putting time and energy into the strategic matters to make us better. Successfully though we are making small in roads to improving and improving our member experience and meeting our strategic goals nevertheless slower than we would like. For today’s main fixture we welcome Papatoetoe and their supporters to the ‘Dale for the NRFL fixture. We have picked ourselves up and managed to secure some points and grow as a squad. Mathematically now safe with only one team being relegated this season we have lots of pressure off us. The players are cementing themselves in the club for us to build around which is great to see. At the same time we are fighting for 2 nd place in the reserve league and still in the reserve cup, being a semi final still to play and hopefully a final. Well done lads and thank you. To all our other visitors across the football community, welcome to Rosedale. Best of luck to our coaching and management staff and the squad for their respective fixtures today. To all our Senior teams both home and away; Africans (fighting to win div 1), Wanderers, Athletic, Humble, Red (gained promotion to div 1), Champs (fighting for 2nd in div 4), Brewers (winner div 4), Colombians (winner div 5), North End (fighting for 2 nd in div 6), Watsons Heroes, Devils Rock, Redmen ( 2nd masters div 3), Undertakers, Nortons (fighting for 1st masters div 4), Originals and our Women’s (fighting for 2 nd womens div 4)team ….. do us proud. Welcome to all our opposition and supporters to Rosedale. I wish you an enjoyable day and invite you to relax in our clubrooms after.

Albany United Football Club Junior Committee MIDGETS HARBOUR-WEST FOOTBALL FESTIVAL

On July the 31st 2016 Albany UTD played host to the first annual Harbour-West Football Festival. The day started off very wet. The players were not off put by the rain, in fact they relished in it and it seemed only the spectators were complaining about how wet and cold it was. The festival was attended by 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade teams from Albany UTD, Greenhithe FC, Norwest UTD and Waitakere UTD. We had 60 teams competing on the day with around 1200 persons at the fields supporting, playing and refereeing across the board. Each Grade was vying for the coveted first paced trophy that they got to take back to their respective club for the season.

Albany United Football Club Junior Committee The day was a huge success all round largely due to the hard work and effort put in behind the scenes of Kieron Henare and Rashaad Vahed and we already have plans in place for the second year and we hope to see you there. Results on the day were: th 5 Grade Winners – Greenhithe Blue 5th Grade Runners Up – Albany Ferns 6th Grade Winners – Greenhithe Spartans – A 6th Grade Runners Up – Greenhithe Giants 7th Grade Winners – Greenhithe Alpha 7th Grade Runners Up – Coatesville Cruisers 8th Grade Winners – Waitakere Roma 8th Grade Runners Up – Albany Phoenix

Albany United Football Club Reserve Team Comments Approaching the end of another season, and it seems to be a case of Deja Vu. Sitting in second place, the leaders just out of reach, and the teams below waiting for us to slip up. The story is much the same as last year, only the teams around us have changed from last season. This season has been a strange one. We started by losing more games in the first 5, than we totalled last season, but then went on an unbeaten run to drag ourselves back into the mix. At the time we beat Takapuna, we were the only team in the league to have taken points off them. Having drawn with them away earlier in the season, it was indicative of where we really should have been had we not started the season so poorly. It’s been a season of disruption. Injuries, holidays, call-ups, coaching changes, illness, we’ve had it all. At the end of the day, it comes down to this. Two league games to go, win both and guarantee second place. A cup semi-final against Hibiscus Coast from the division above looms, and we want the cup so will want to carry our form into that game. I'd like to take the opportunity to thank the many who put so much behind the scenes in making it possible we can get on the field. From our coaching to management to physio to supporters to club to the volunteers, a massive Thank you from the team. And so, as the club continues to look forward to bigger and better things in the coming seasons, I’ll use my final ever match-day blurb as Reserve captain to leave you with one final quote... “A football team is like a piano. You need eight men to carry it and three who can play the damn thing” – Bill Shankley See you all in the clubhouse Josh ANDERSON Reserve Team Captain

Albany United Football Club Reserve Team Comments Albany United welcome Papatoetoe and their supporters back to ‘The Fortress’ Over the last few weeks we have pushed ourselves and even when it looked like we would not take anything from the game, came away with wins. Two weeks in a row we have falling asleep in the second part of the first half and let our opposition back into the game. Away to Te Atatu we managed to get the winner 7min from time and sneak the win when we were by far the better and more dominate team but for the lapse in the first half and should have put them away in the first 30mins of the game. Last week it looked much of the same in our shield game against Onehunga. Two nil up and the only threat they seemed to have was dead ball situations. Suddenly we found ourselves locked two all going into the half. Thankfully we pulled ourselves up and tactically got back to what was working and made them change and with it, we started to find gaps easily and enforced our dominance with three unanswered goals, coming out winners and moving into the semi finals. A much tougher game expected there but we first have two league games to go starting today. Today we take on Papatoetoe who despite their placing on the table are a very tough side. In round 1 we battled for the win and although the scoreline read fancy to us, it was a very hard fought. We expect nothing less from them today so can not take it for granted because they are in the lower part of the table it will be easy. Its simple, win the last two league games and we take second in the league. So all the pressure is on us and we have rise to that challenge and turn it into an opportunity and take it. To my guys I personally ‘Thank you’ all for the efforts and hard work you are all putting in, especially with all the disruption that has been happening recently. I can’t wait to see all the hard work you have all put in at training finishing up with another win today, not just for us but for the ‘Red Army’. A massive thank you to ‘The Godfather’ Bill for his dedication to this team and my new supporting staff, Josh for standing in and helping at such a crucial time of the season. All the best and I’ll enjoy having a beer with you back in the clubroom. Gary HOGG Reserve Team Coach

Albany United Football Club First Team Comments We welcome Papatoetoe, todays officials and our Red Army supporters and volunteers for our final home game of the 2016 NRFL Division Two season. 2016 has been a challenging year for our Men's First Team. Beginning the year with a total overhaul of the squad, retaining only four first team players from last year, followed by a constant stream of injuries and absences. Despite the wide array of changes and varied obstacles, we started our pre-season well, putting in spirited efforts and delivering promising performances against the likes of Oratia, Hibiscus, Bays and Glenfield. Unfortunately, our first round of the season didn't match the consistency of those games. Going down often against opposition we should have faired better against. From there, disappointing results left us languishing at the wrong end of the table and come mid-season we were staring the real possibility of relegation. We were aware that it was going to be a tough season for us; NRFL Division two is an unrelentingly difficult league, often denying victory to the team that plays the more attractive and well-rehearsed football and awarding it instead to the team with the most grunt. Nevertheless, the realisation of the dogfight we had entered hit us hard at the end of round one. This awakening could have been met by two outcomes; submission, or defiance. Collectively, the team stood up in round two, with a stronger mental attitude, this was the first stepping stone in turning our season around. Solid performances against Takapuna at home and away to Ngaruawahia weren't rewarded with the deserved points, but this was a sure sign of our change of mindset and resilience. That resilience and positive attitude has continued to grow, culminating in our home game against Fencibles. This hard work and effort was not limited to the First Team as. on many occasions our Reserve team, who have enjoyed a successful season under Gary, have been called upon and delivered admirably each time. Whether it be providing players to cover injuries, rewarding consistently high quality performance, or just the constant need to shuffle plans and players to accommodate. We owe much to our reserve team this year. From the beginning of round two and our mind-set change, Albany United have made sure strides toward cementing our position in next years competition and laying the groundwork for a more impressive 2017. The work doesn't stop here though. Three points in todays game is our focus right now, and will be until the final whistle. At the end of our last game away against Onehunga Mangere, we can look to the future and what challenges it will bring. I'd like to finish by thanking the following people on behalf of the team; all our coaching staff that have been a part of the club this season, our Manager Bill who has always provided the team with a smiling face and fresh kits, our squad Physio Tom Mason, whose dedication to the well-being of the squads is second-to-none, Gary and Tel for their hard work and effort week-in, week-out and of course the RED ARMY for their weekly support. The running of such a large football club requires many volunteers and people with a unique disposition and we thank all who have helped the club and squad this year.

Albany United Football Club First Team Comments As we enter the penultimate round of NRFL Division 2 fixtures it’s my pleasure today to welcome all the players, officials and supporters of Papatoetoe AFC to Rosedale Park. The last time the two teams met, back in round 10, it was an emphatic 6-2 victory for Papatoetoe at their Murdoch Park home. The first-half finished relatively even ….. Josh CT gave Albany the lead early in the 4th minute, Papatoetoe scored three goals in the 7th, 29th and 37th before Andy Turner pegged one back for Albany on the stroke of half-time to leave the score 3-2 in favour of Papatoetoe at the break. However, within the first three minutes of the second-half Papatoetoe scored two quick-fire goals to stretch the lead out to 5-2, before putting the icing on the cake in the 58th minute with a sixth and final goal to put the game to bed. The goals on the day for Papatoetoe were scored by Iwa Shaker (with a hat-trick), Fadeel Khan, Sandip Singh and Imraan Shah. Since the last time of writing we achieved what is probably our best result of the season in a tight 1-0 victory at home over promotion chasing Fencibles Utd. The victory came via a massive effort from all 14 players plus an 84th min screamer of a goal from Sanchez to secure all 3 valuable points. This was backed up with another promising performance the following weekend against Te Atatu Utd where a Leewaine Scott penalty in the 26th min handed us a deserved 1-0 half-time lead. Into the second-half and we were looking comfortable to take at least a point out of the game until the 57th min when the referee awarded Te Atatu a dubious (some would say ludicrous) free-kick on the edge of our box which allowed Te Atatu to level the scores. A few mins later and a second dubious and key decision from the Ref saw a straight red card to Dev for what was described as a two-footed challenge (obviously listened to the appeals of the Te Atatu players) when photos show Dev’s left leg tucked behind his backside as he made contact with the ball with his right foot. The decision turned the flow of the game but the 10 remaining Albany players still created chances in search of a winner. Eventually Te Atatu broke through to take the lead in the 80th min, and as we desperately pushed forward in search of an equaliser they added a third in the last couple of mins to earn a somewhat flattering 3-1 victory. We dust ourselves off and ‘go once again’ today, with the good news that last weekend other results in the league went our way and we are now mathematically safe and guaranteed our place in next years’ NRFL Division 2. I look forward to welcoming our guests from Papatoetoe back to the clubhouse today for the post-match speeches and some friendly banter over a beer or two. Finally, for the last time in 2016, I wish everyone a safe journey back home and hope to see all of our ‘Red Army’ of supporters back at Rosedale in 2017. All the best.
