Elected Officer Committee THURSDAY 17TH MAY 2018

Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted. 3

Reports and actions on mandates received

AU  Discussed Development Plans which need to be submitted in September  AGMs are all balloted now so students get use to voting in elections  The committee restructure is continuing. The final few clubs will change their structure in September 2019. Soc Fed  The grant allocation spend deadline was confirmed SRF  Each group of Reps presented their end of year review Scrutiny Committee  It was a straightforward meeting. The Committee discussed the effectiveness of Scrutiny Committee and Elected Officer Committee and it was agreed to review them over the summer. Ordinary students  There were no updates. 4

Drafting of new campaign priorities

The Campaigns Priorities have previously been approved and the document is available on the website. 5

Summary report on progress from each Officer

TP  Did 31 NSS shout outs ensuring more students filled out the survey. Record turnout with 75%.  Working alongside the University on the Student Journey Workshops tackling student issues from start to finish in their University careers.  Helped run and ran a workshop at the University’s LTE conference titled the ‘Student Voice Conference’. Simon Blake, CE of NUS, was guest speaker.  With GA ran four fruit and water days giving out snacks to over 400 students.  Co-ran Star Awards with the University.


After the announcement of the ceasing of recruitment to Performing Arts courses, working with the students and the University to help formalise a beneficial end for all. GA  Planning and preparing handover book for next year’s President Welfare, making sure all welfare campaigns and work are captured.  Handed out fruit and water in the library this week with TP  Making sure students have access to welfare and academic tips during exam week.  Continuing work on the Student Life Building, meeting with the University exec team about plans going forward and being a part of the University’s project board.  Working with the School Reps on facilitating some microwaves in the studio if possible.  Went around campus completing the NSS talks, the NSS is at the highest completion rate.  Visited halls with SUSS speaking to students. AP  Working on various areas of the student experience specifically getting more students involved in clubs and societies, which improves retention and completion on TU Courses. Working very closely with the schools, departments and supporting the TU Strategy.  Working on handover with the new President Activities 6

Summary report of student engagement against annual plan including SU on Tour

The Officers spoke to 60 students in the Library for SU on Tour with around 20 feedback cards filled in. The Committee stressed the importance of a more rigorous and systematic approach to SU on Tour with key findings brought to Elected Officer Committee for discussion and action. 7

Honorary Life Membership proposal

Carol Harrison and Adam Howe were presented with Honorary Life Membership at the Annual Awards 8

Announcements and Any Other Business

PC explained there have been some incidents involving cyclists in the path between the building works on campus and asked if signage could be display asking cyclists to dismount and walk. GA noted she would look into it. 9
