Meeting Numbers 1548 and 1549 Youth passes, but with luck immaturity can last a lifetime!

Future Meetings Following the success of our video conference meetings via Zoom on 5 and 19 May, our next Zoom meeting will be on Tuesday 2 June, commencing at 8.00am. Log in details, as advised by club secretary Peter Hammond are: Meeting ID 835 8623 4928 Password 516 409 We will be hearing from Hannah Frisby Smith who we sponsored to attend RYLA last year and who is now happy to recount her experiences of RYLA. Following the normal Zoom meeting, the Board will meet. At this stage, details of our meeting for Tuesday 16 June are not known.

Past Meetings Our Zoom meetings on both 5 and 19 May were successful due thanks to Secretary Peter and President Kevin for their work in setting up the Zoom platform on each occasion. On 5 May we had 18 connections covering 20 members and all had the opportunity to contribute. President Kevin conducted the meeting in a similar way to a face to face Club Assembly’ Our Money Spinner located in the mall at Bayside Village shopping centre had been broken into, (lock smashed) and coins taken. Due thanks to PP Bill Rawlins, this has been repaired (again). The mall is accessible around the clock for cleaning and deliveries and has no CCTV monitoring. It’s difficult to think of what we can do except maintain frequent collections of coin to make the target less attractive. The idea of trying to include suitable guest speakers in our Zoom meetings was endorsed by members. The meeting on 19 May was “attended” by 22 members through 20 Zoom connections. This was once again set up by Secretary Peter. Guest Speaker was D’Arcy Walsh, PP of the RC Adelaide and currently chairman of the ROMAC Central Region committee. D’Arcy reminded us of the magnificent work overseen by ROMAC, Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children from Pacific islands in Australia and New Zealand. ROMAC has been functioning successfully for 33 years and has been responsible for changing the lived of hundreds of children under the age of 15 years. Across both Australia and New Zealand, 40 to 50 children are treated each year at an average cost of around $35 000 each. Clubs can help by donating to ROMAC and/or running dedicated fundraising events for ROMAC.

Club Bulletin 2 and 16 June 2020 Club Changeover

Rotary Down Under

President elect Marianne Harding has advised that our Changeover will take place on line because of our inability to meet face to face. This will take place on Tuesday 23 June 2020 commencing at 7.30pm using the Zoom platform and involving all members plus friends. Details on how the meeting will run will be advised by Marianne in due course.

Members are aware that the Rotary Magazine “Rotary Down Under” is posted to their home address each month. The subscription for this is included in our annual club subscription. From July 2020, cost of RDU will increase from $40 to $44 for a hard copy, posted. Also, from July 2020, the cost of annual online copies will decrease from $40 to $34. Please advise Secretary Peter by 25 May whether you prefer online or posted copies next Rotary year.

Lockdown Recipes President elect Marianne arranged for members to notify a favourite main and sweet recipe that would be useful to others during the COVID– 19 lockdown. These were sent to Pat Overall for collation and I’m pleased to say that most members responded. Marianne will arrange for them to be put together in a digital form so they are available to members on line. Should be available soon.

District Conference 2021 Incoming District Governor District 9510, David Jones, advises that the Inaugural District 9510 Conference will be held in Bendigo from 16 to 18 April 2021. If you have thoughts of attending, it would be a good idea to write this in your diary now.

Annual Subscription Treasurer Brenton has advised that the Club Board has approved that our annual subscription for the 2020-2021 Rotary Year shall be $220. This can be paid now as a single amount, or payable in two $110 instalments, one now and the other in January 2021. Club Bulletin 2 and 16 June 2020 Tutti Thanks

Help Local Business

Linda Jacobssen from Tutti Arts has written thanking us for our support for Tutti once again. Linda no longer works for Tutti but is always keen to help them as and when she can. Tutti moved premises earlier in the year from the Galway building on the Minda campus to the former St Theresa’s School in Brighton, across from the Brighton railway station. It’s a great move for them, enabling Tutti to run all it’s programs at the one site. These cover Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Choral Music, Choir, Company AT Autistic Theatre and Tutti Kids. Some facilities such as accessible toilets are not available at the new site and prior to the Corona Virus interruption, fundraising planning was in progress.

Because of the slowdown of activity for many businesses due to efforts made in combating the spread of COVID-19, Rotarian Lyn Banner has initiated a program to enable us to help local small businesses.

I

Because of this, the physical move to new premises had to be put on hold. Artists have been able to interact on line thanks to Zoom. However, now the move is almost complete, and face to face programs are getting underway very soon. The future looks good.

Lyn has listed many such businesses and she, plus volunteer helpers within our club, are contacting those businesses asking if they would like their business and its activities listed on our club website and Facebook page with a view to receiving free publicity. This is a positive move from Lyn and our club to do what Rotary is good at, Community Service. Response to date has been promising and Lyn would appreciate help from volunteers to phone businesses with our proposal. Please think about it.

Finally, Linda thanks us on behalf of Tutti for our thoughtfulness and generous donation towards their future.
