Future Meetings Following the success of our video conference meetings via Zoom on 14 and 21 April, our next Zoom meeting will be on Tuesday 5 May commencing at 8.00am. Log in details will be emailed to all members by club secretary Peter Hammond later this week.

Past Meetings

The first video conference meeting of the club was held on Tuesday 14 April using “Zoom” as the connection medium. District 9520 has a Zoom licence and all clubs are able to use that licence for meeting purposes. Club secretary Peter Hammond has made the arrangements for us to be a registered user and advises us of The meeting program will be along the lines of Club the meeting ID and Password prior to each meeting. As well as our club members, we had guest speaker Don and Pat Damien Leach on line to deliver a very informative talk on District Youth Programs. Damien is a member of the Rotary Club of Campbelltown and Coordinator of District 9520 Youth Services. He will take on the much larger District 9510 Coordinator of Youth Services in 2020-2021. The key to his address was that there will be no youth programs on offer during 2020 because of COVID-10 lockdowns and all preparatory work is going into making sure that we can achieve as much as possible during the 2021 calendar year. Because Damien is familiar with both his topic and the on line presentation methodology, we did learn a considerable amount from his presentation. We are fortunate to have an enthusiastic Director of Youth activities in our club by way of PP Max .

Is This in Bad Taste?

In the UK, some supermarkets have admitted that there is horse meat in their home cooked burgers. Even places like Burger King have had to admit that there are “small amounts” of horse meat in their burgers. Tesco is a big supermarket chain in the UK and within hours of the news that Tesco’s “all beef” hamburgers contained 30% horse meat, these quips hit the internet. I’m so hungry, I could eat a horse….I guess Tesco just listened. Anyone want a burger from Tesco? Yay or Neigh? Not too sure how Tesco are going to get over this hurdle. Waitress in Tesco asked if I wanted anything on my burger. So I had £5 each way. A woman was taken to hospital after eating burgers from Tesco. Her condition is said to be stable. Tesco is now forced to deny the presence of zebra in their burgers as shoppers confuse barcodes with contents listing. I said to my wife, “these Tesco burgers give me the trots.” I hear that the smaller version of Tesco burgers make great horse d”oeuvres.”

Instead of choosing “rare, medium or well done,” it’s now “Win, Place or Show”.
