Club Bulletin 8 and 22 January 2019 Young Citizen of Year Award Members will remember the young lad by name of Zel Whiting who spoke to us back in June last year with great enthusiasm on his hobby of nature film making. We assisted Zel and his mother to travel to Darwin in order to study and film the activities of the Northern Quoll in the Territory wild life park which was done very professionally. Zel also produced a filmed documentary of the life cycle of the cuttlefish in Spencer Gulf near Whyalla. These at 12 years of age is most impressive! Secretary Barb Humphries, on behalf of our club, has nominated Zel for the City of Holdfast Bay Australia Day Young Citizen of the Year Award and we have been advised that Zel has been short listed as one of the finalists for the award. Winners of each category will be announced at the Australia Day Ceremony to be held on Saturday 26 January 2019 at the Glenelg Foreshore Lawns adjacent to Moseley Square Glenelg. A formal invitation will be sent to the Club soon.

Club Bulletin 8 and 22 January 2019 Sad News At our 8 December meeting, PP Pam Maxwell announced her immediate resignation from the club. Pam has been a member for many years and was the first female member of our club. Pam was Club President during the 2006-2007 Rotary year. We all wish Pam and Barry all our very best for the future and we will no doubt be seeing them at various times in the future.

Bunnings BBQ The next scheduled Bunnings fundraising BBQ for our club will be on Friday 15 March 2019. PP Brenton is taking names of those members and friends who can help during the day. Please contact Brenton by email if you can assist.

Rotary International Council on Legislation In the November 2018 issue of “Rotary Down Under”, (RDU), was an article advising that a submission has been made to change the requirement that all Rotarians must subscribe to an approved print publication as one of their membership conditions. This matter will be put forward at the triennial Rotary Council on Legislation to be held later this year. The compulsory nature of this membership requirement has always been contentious, and with the growing use of forms of digital media, the value of continuing to use of printed forms of communication distributed by post must be discussed. In Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, RDU is the preferred Rotary publication but although it is a quality magazine, it is expensive, and must be paid for in every member’s subscription. No doubt we will have the opportunity to discuss this item and others being put to the Council on Legislation this year.
