LAUNCH OF THE 3B APP APPRENTICE INTERVIEW CHRISTMAS ON SITE AUSTRALIA DAY
BUZZ AROUND THE 3B APP
The Brisbane office was buzzing with excitement as three bees (3B’s) greeted team members starting their day. Reception was decorated with all things 3B themed; yellow and black balloons, tim tams, yummy bee stings and 3B posters - reminding everyone of the Morris customer service philosophy ‘Be friendly, connected and real.’ The three bees assisted each Morris team member to download the new 3B customer service app to their phone and begin sharing stories from the hive. The app was created for all Morris team members to be able to share customer service stories about colleagues, teammates and leaders. The app can be downloaded on Google Play Store and the Apple App Store under ‘3B Customer Service.’

STAFF SPOTLIGHT INTERVIEW WITH WILLIAM DREW Words: Craig Hamilton, Talinga Village Manager
William Drew has been employed with Morris for nearly three years. When he started with us, he informed me that he had completed his Cert I and Cert II in Commercial Cookery. I asked him if he would be interested in completing his qualification if Morris could provide this, which he expressed an interest in doing. In 2014 Morris was able to offer Will the opportunity to complete his apprenticeship and on the 17th of November 2015 Will accomplished this.
William Drew receiving his Certificate and gift voucher for completing his adult Chefs apprenticeship.
Since promoting Will to the position as Chef he has received numerous compliments from both the residents and staff. Thank you once again Will for your professionalism and commitment.
After a lot of hard work and determination, William has just finished his Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and has landed a chef job at Origin Talinga Village.
Q. What’s your favourite dish to cook at Morris? Any of the curries, as they’re something you can put your own flare on. Roast is pretty straight forward.
Q. Tell me about your journey so far with Morris. I started with Morris as a utility roughly two years ago at Reedy Creek, I came to Morris with a Certificate II in Commercial Cookery that I got in school and wanted to get my Chef qualifications. I started completing my Certificate III about 18 months ago with Morris’ support. Initially I was on a 28:9 roster and now I work a 2:1 roster at Talinga where we have about 84 rooms. Each day we cook for between 30-80 people and I alternate breakfast and dinner shifts each swing.
Q. What do you find most challenging in your job? Even though you do the study, learning new things each day can be a challenge as well as keeping on top of orders.
Q. Where did you study your Certificate III in Commercial Cookery? I studied at Southwest TAFE, because I had completed some of the components in my Cert II all of my training was on site and the TAFE Trainer came out to assess me.
Q. What’s your favourite thing to do on your RnR? Spend time with my family. I have a wife and two daughters who are four and seven and another one on the way! Q: What advice would you give to other Morris staff thinking about studying while working? Do it if you want to up skill. Balancing work and study when you work such long days is hard but it’s best to try to get it done as soon as you can.
CREATING SOME CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR FAMILIES IN NEED Tracy Brathaug, General Manager Business Development, organised a donation drive for the Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal and for the Salvation Army. Morris team members donated food and toys, helping both charities in creating some cheer and spirit at Christmas for many families and children who are less privileged than others.

CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES GOLDEN GROVE FESTIVITIES FOR XMAS Words: Jennifer Burge, AVM/HSE
The gingerbread express was a hit, as was our resident RVM/Santa Eddie, who did a fabulous job as always under the sauna like conditions of the Santa suit. With around 50 extra family members on-site for the day, the kids enjoyed the pool, pressies and dessert bar while the big kids were treated to a bumper seafood buffet, tons of turkey and Christmas cheer in the form of an open bar.

CHRISTMAS COMPETITION Some of you may already be aware of the fierce Christmas competition that was held in the lead up to Christmas. Paul Cavanagh, Senior Operations Manager Origin Project, challenged all Origin sites to get into the Christmas spirit by decorating their dining room and reception areas. As you can see, the Christmas spirit was well and truly alive.
