Michaelia Cash the Minister for Employment

VTEC participants in Kununurra

VTEC graduate class Perth Last year Morris was a finalist in the same community interaction category. To be named a winner for our work readiness program this year is a tremendous boost for the team who have worked so hard to create meaningful employment outcomes in the communities where we operate. Many of our people contribute with their own time to this program and it is a great reward for them, as well as providing publicity and endorsement for our program, assisting with its’ continued success. Morris realised through experience that just offering employment opportunities was not sufficient, the more crucial factor was sustaining employment. Just one of the ways our work readiness program was customised to facilitate sustaining employment was to include a fitness component delivered by a fitness trainer to ensure participants are in good health and work ready. For Morris issue of health and overall wellbeing has influenced almost every aspect of our business over the past year and will continue to do so into the future. The wellbeing of our workforce is just as important as the wellbeing of our customers.

Mobilisation Phillip Creek Safe Work Month

Morris attended the Brisbane South Safe Work Month Breakfast Forum. The breakfast forum gave attendees an opportunity to learn about health and safety initiatives, engage with fellow leaders and safety professionals and enjoy breakfast before going to work. The key note speaker was Libby Trickett (pictured below with Ben Edwards) who is Queensland’s Mental Health Ambassador. Libby was courageous enough to share her personal experience with mental health issues and is passionate about promoting positive mental health. Libby hopes her new role will give her the opportunity to help Queensland workplaces support their employees to overcome mental health issues and reduce the stigma associated with mental health.

Morris has successfully mobilised Phillip Creek Village in the Northern Territory after being awarded the Camp Operations Tender by Civmec in September 2017. The village will support Jemina’s Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP) Project, specifically the Phillip Creek Compressor Station (PCCS). The 200-room village is equal distance from the east coast of Australia as it is from the west and approximately 50 km north of Tennant Creek. The especially remote location certainly tested the mobilisation crew but true to form - they got the job done!

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH SEPTEMBER

Winner REBECCA SANEWSKI SET UP SUPERVISOR BMA PROJECT , BLACKWATER “The site manager was called away for personal reasons, the secondary site supervisor was on annual leave, and so in their stead, Rebecca Sanewski stepped up to the plate. She worked longer days and her days off. She coordinated the team, the rosters, the workload. Rebecca organised new starters, got drivers signed off and absent shifts covered. Rebecca has shown that she is to be truly valued as a Morris employee through her commitment, integrity and her bias for action. If Rebecca did not know what to do, she was quick to get on the phone, email and ask for help, from supervisors, managers and our client. I am doing a site visit on Wednesday, and gave her a call to see who would be on site - she has organised everyone available for a BBQ breakfast to say thank you to the team for their wonderful effort. Superstar Rebecca - you are a CHAMPION!” ~ Kim MacElroy

FACT SHEET | Near Miss Morris is committed to achieving zero harm at work for everyone. Fundamental to this zero harm philosophy is a culture that empowers everyone to report all incidents (including near misses), because it is the right thing to do. By investigating and implementing lessons learned from a near miss, we can prevent future incidents.

BENEFITS OF REPORTING NEAR MISS Helps reduce future incidents and injuries By reporting, investigating and learning from near miss, we are able to prevent the re-occurrence of other, potentially more serious consequences from happening. The safety incident pyramid below suggests that for every serious incident resulting in a fatality or a major injury, there are approximately 600 at-risk incidents occurring. This also means there are 600 opportunities to learn and take corrective action to prevent more serious incidents occurring.

1 MAJOR INJURY *

THE SAFETY INCIDENT TRIANGLE Adapted from Frank E. Bird Jr.’s study of industrial incidents. Data collated from 1,753,498 incidents in 297 companies, covering 21 different industries.

10 MINOR INJURIES 30 PROPERTY DAMAGE INCIDENTS

*A major injury includes incidents that involve a fatality, disability, lost time or medical treatment.

600 INCIDENTS WITH NO VISIBLE INJURY OR DAMAGE

NEAR MISS DEFINITION Any hazard or work related event that; - Could have caused harm, property damage or loss in slightly different circumstances, or - Could cause harm, loss and/or damage in the future. EXAMPLES OF NEAR MISS An event such as: • Observing and stopping a co-worker from performing an at risk behaviour. • An object falls from above, and almost hits you • Performing work without the appropriate Permit to Work or energy isolation • Losing balance on a slippery or uneven floor • Leaving an item of equipment in an unsafe condition • Storing an oil waste drum outside without properly sealing it. (Environmental Near Miss).

We gain important lessons learned. Even if there was no loss or injury from a near miss incident, it could have potentially resulted in a much more serious consequence. By thoroughly investigating near misses, we can gain valuable insights by identifying contributing factors, which enables us to identify improvement opportunities. We can learn as much from a near miss as we can from a serious injury. Increases safety awareness. No Compromise on Safety is integral to the way we operate. Communicating and sharing our experiences of near misses through Safety Shares, Toolbox Talks and at HSEQ meetings is a valuable way improving the safety of our mates. At Morris we have set a target of reporting five (5) times as many near misses as the number of total recordable injuries reported. We must all continue our team effort to create a safer workplace by reporting and investigating all near misses to achieve our goal of zero harm.

HOW TO REPORT A NEAR MISS. Use the incident reporting form. Submit the completed form to your HSEQ representative. By not reporting a near miss, you could be putting the future safety of your mates at risk. Please speak to your Supervisor / Manager / HSEQ representative if you have any safety concerns or improvement suggestions.

I would like to take a moment to congratulate two outstanding employees Georgina Reid and Kaylene Wills. Both have shown throughout their time with Morris a flexibility to work with different shifts, rosters, sites and shortages. A dedication to turn up to work on time, every time, and never miss a shift. A 3B attitude towards work, new starters, clients and the dedication to their work, taking pride in everything they do. Not one conversation with management about performance, not one safety incident. Thank you for your efforts, tireless dedication and commitment to Morris. ~ Kim MacElroy (Project Manager BMA)

To say thank you, Georgina and Kaylene both received tickets to the Mayors Charity Ball supporting Mental Health Initiatives on Saturday 21 October.

My personal thanks and gratitude to you all for your efforts in providing support for such a great cause. For those of you who don’t know, Pink Ribbon isn’t a FMG Corporately endorsed event, it’s something sites take upon themselves to campaign, and we did a FABULOUS job.. I can’t tell you how proud I am that we’ve shown such great spirit in supporting Pink Ribbon in the past, and most specifically, this year! In total we raised $5309.00 and we did so while having fun! From the kitchen, reception, retail and camp supervisor employees (and all those in between), I couldn’t have done this without you – I look forward to next year’s Pink Ribbon and doing it all over again so continue putting Christmas Creek spirit at the forefront! ~ With gratitude, Ash Tindale (FMG) TIMES

CLOUDBREAK TEAM, I’m only back in the office today after the visit earlier this week with Daniel and the Sodexo Retail Management team. I wanted to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to everyone. Store presentation including the hot and cold food display was amazing - there wasn’t one gap that I saw and all products were faced up beautifully with the correct price tag! I know this all fell at EOM so really appreciate the hard work and extra effort everyone put in. Sodexo were completely blown away by what they saw at our sites and the friendliness of all the staff they came into contact with - I am so incredibly proud of you all for delivering such a high standard. KV TEAM, Hamish – I know you’ve been under the pump with both EOM happening, the shortage of a manager as well as throwing these preparations for lifting the store to present – the extra effort you went to is very much appreciated.

Well done and thank you to everyone again! ~ Sara Cockman (State Merchandise Manager, WSB)

Kelsey – a special thank you to you as I know you were integral to helping merchandise the store over the weekend – well done – it really looked fantastic. Aden – thank you for taking the time to pick us up and get us between sites. ~ Sara Cockman (State Merchandise Manager, WSB)

GRYLLSIE The Head Office is super lucky to have Gryllsie (Deb Grylls – Origin Strong HLC Lead) spend time in the office. Her energy and authenticity has lifted the spirits of many in the office. She has shown a great bias for action by running a meditation class, and leading workout sessions for us. Gryllsie is super Friendly, Connects with each and every one of us, and is comfortable and energised about who she is, what she does, and all things positive. ~ Allison Roach (Corporate HSEQ & 3B Cultural Lead)
