HEALTH & LIFESTYLE COORDINATOR ORIGIN How long have you been a HLC and how long have you worked with Morris? About 15 months.

So far, from what you have learnt and seen, what do you enjoy most about being a HLC and working for Morris? Organising big events and being part of a team going from strength to strength.

What has been your career highlight to date? Ninja Warrior Challenge at SGV, 2017.

Can you share any tips or challenges you’ve faced on your journey? The best tip I can give anyone looking to plan a successful site-based event is that organisation is everything! Give yourself enough time to do it properly. We have had event proposals denied by the client for funding in the past, it can be frustrating but it is part of the process.

What do you like to do in your spare time? Any of my spare time these days, is family time, which I’m very happy about. I also like to watch a good film or television series when I get the chance.

What’s the best advice you have received? Work hard and success will follow.

What is the key ingredient to being successful in the health and fitness industry? Being a people person.

Name 3 people either dead or alive you would invite to dinner and why? Andre Agassi, Denzil Washington and Jonathon Thurston. All three have been the best at what they do. I also find them inspirational people in how they carry themselves away from their business.

If a movie was made about your life - what would it be called & who would play you? Adrenalin Rush – Tom Hardy

MEANINGFUL EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES Partnership with Fortescue Metals Group Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) is celebrating its final Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC) graduation for the year, with graduates bound for secondments with partner Morris Corp (a division of Sodexo). Under the partnership with Morris, up to 40 VTEC graduates per year will participate in a six-month placement at one of Fortescue’s villages. Fortescue Chief Executive Officer elect Elizabeth Gaines said the VTEC program provides individualised support that is delivering real outcomes for Aboriginal people through training for guaranteed jobs. “We are pleased to provide our VTEC graduates with greater diversity in their training by joining with a business partner for the first time to expose them to employment opportunities which provide critical support for the mining sector,” Ms Gaines said. Graduate Henry Councillor said the training he has received through VTEC has been an incredible opportunity. “Being out of the workforce, I had lost my confidence and selfesteem and now I am excited about what the future holds. I can’t thank Fortescue and Morris enough and look forward to starting my secondment at Christmas Creek,” he said. Morris Chief Executive Officer Fiona Berkin said the company was very eager to welcome the VTEC graduates to the Morris family. “We are absolutely delighted to partner with Fortescue Metals Group to provide meaningful employment opportunities,” she said.

Indigenous Business, through Andrew Cocks Transport Services. Andrew Cocks, of the Malgana people runs a small fleet operation and completes the almost 3000km round trip from Perth to Morris “camp sites” in the Pilbara, weekly. The first round of VTEC graduates will commence their secondments with Morris in January 2018. Graduates will continue to receive mentoring and support from Fortescue’s Aboriginal Development team, dedicated to helping the graduates succeed and thrive in their careers. Background Fortescue’s VTEC program is based on the simple but compelling idea: after successfully completing training with Fortescue, you are guaranteed a job. Since the initiative began a decade ago, more than 770 Aboriginal people have begun employment with Fortescue, and around 790 Aboriginal people have received driver education and health and literacy support service.

When not providing transport services to the Morris sites in the Pilbara, Andrew supplies a service to the Toll metro business. Andrew is a Malgana Indigenous man and a descendant of the people from Gutharraguada, (Shark Bay), growing up in Geraldton, and spends as much time as possible with his wife and three boys. Andrew’s family ties in Shark Bay include his Grandmother who at nearly 90 years of age is still active in the community and with the Yadgalah Aboriginal Corporation.

SUSTAINING OUR COMMUNITIES VTEC Graduation

Our final VTEC group for 2017 are an impressive team of young men. Many with young families, making the choice to take a step in a new direction. It was fantastic to see all of the family turn out today to support their sons, brothers, husbands, friends. Thankyou June Stack, Gillian Brennan and Tayla Roberts for all of your hard work getting this final group through. Argyle, Karntama, Cloudbreak Village and Hamilton ... here are your next super stars. Here is some feedback from the graduates: From Derek: “First off I would like to thank Andrew Yarran and Rob Beattie from AtWork for giving me the opportunity to start this course. The lecturers Tracy, Rob, Andre and Luke for making the course enjoyable and making the information easy to understand. The aboriginal support staff for what they did for the group and the other students for providing a great atmosphere to learn in. I would also like to thank my partner for the support she has given me.” From Tim: “This course have motivated me in many ways, it was good to learn about my health and fitness and responsibilities in Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA). I also met a bunch of interesting characters in the class room that are now I call my brother boys. I enjoyed everything about this course, the learning, laughter and team bonding. I learnt a few things about myself during this course. The main thing I learnt was that I am capable of being a leader, and making me realise that I have great potential and I must believe in myself to get things done. Getting a job with Morris benefits me because, not only I’m earning good money, but I am keeping myself fit and healthy. My family can now be looked after now that I am working. Thank you so much for teaching me everything in this course.”

From Tyson: “I would like to say thank you so much for all the time and effort you made to help not only just me but the rest of the class. You have taught me a lot about how to look after my body and to keep healthy which I never took into consideration before, Also when you teach and help us you make it a lot easier and fun to come in. The main thing I have enjoyed about your class is how productive it is and how much I have learnt. Thanks to you as well as the rest of the team of the lecturers and VTEC group I have learnt a lot about myself that i never knew before such as health and fitness and I thank you for that.” From Anthony Benfield: “I would like to thank you for this course and teaching me about what better health is for myself. Since I’ve been at this course I have learnt so much about myself and life in general. I’ve enjoyed the laughs and going into the gym in the afternoons, I’ve been getting fit since going in there. I’m looking forward to completing this course and getting a job also just being a good role model for my family and even for myself. Getting this job will help me so much in life, it will be the best thing I have ever done, and it will also make my family proud and stronger.“

RAY WATT COMPLIANCE AND LICENSING MANAGER Ray was nominated for employee of the month after being receiving the following feedback from our client on site: “I feel very compelled to send you an email in regards to Ray Watt and his performance since he came onboard in January of 2017. Since Ray has joined Morris I have been working closely with Ray and have identified some major improvements in the following areas: 1. Permit to work system 2. Contractor Management System 3. Assurance Program 4. Mentoring of the HSE advisors onsite 5. The effective close out of all Major non-conformances identified during the AUSSAFE Audit and the ongoing close out of minor non-conformances. The above are just a sample of the work that Ray has done to help achieve a good safety culture within Morris. I have regular catch ups with Ray to discuss opportunities for improvement, discussions around projects he is working on and also to maintain transparency across the scope of work. Ray has also been an active member of the Origin Contractors HSE Forum. Ray has presented at our HSE Contractors Workshops and discussed topics during our monthly meeting. Switch On, Top 4, Courageous Conversations, Circle of influence. If you were one of the 56 that attended the pilot two-day Switch On workshops you will know exactly what I am talking about. What is that I hear you say? You want to know what Switch On is? Q: WHAT IS SWITCH ON? A: Switch On is a workshop that will make you think and speak about safety like you have never spoken or thought about safety before. Q: YEAH RIGHT ALLIE! HOW DOES SWITCH ON DO THAT? A: Switch On challenges your current beliefs and behaviours about safety. You are taken on an emotional and thought-provoking journey that goes beyond compliance to create a fundamental shift in your relationship to safety and safety leadership. Q: IS SWITCH ON AN INTERNAL PROGRAM? A: Yes and No. Morris Division of Sodexo has partnered with a company called Actrua. Actrua as the name suggests, Activates the Truth, and their track record of results is in building cultures of performance in safety, leadership and teams. The Actrua Switch On workshop is tailored to Morris Division operations, aligning to our Core Values, our 3B Service Model and utilising our everyday language and concepts. Selected Morris team members have and will be chosen to complete a three-day Co-facilitator workshop to Cofacilitate Switch On with an Actrua facilitator. (Operations Manager WSB), Corey Loft (Origin HLC Lead) and Jennifer Cross (Eastwood AVM ESB) have Cofacilitated four workshops – we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Q: WHAT IS TOP 4? What is important to you in your life? List the top 4 items in your life: These can be things you have (e.g. your family, your car, your health), things you want to do and/or things you are hoping to do. • What would happen to the 4 most important things to you, if you were injured or lost your health. • These are the reason to stay safe - at work and at home. • This allows you to realise safety is not a cost, it is an investment or a currency to enjoy what is important.

Roadshows

Two rounds of Roadshows have been completed (as promised during transition roadshows) visiting our operational sites. We had four L&D people split into two teams running both sides of the country concurrently. Incidentally any more than two L&D people in one space together is known as a “Brilliance”. Making up that Brilliance is Darren/Laura/ Pauline and Roger. We have also had great support support from Todd/Marcus/Kevyn/ Paul/Colin where it’s needed. The premise for the Sodexo onboarding is: all team members are ambassadors for the company – hence the Ambassador Program name. The outcomes of the session are deeper dives into • • • • • •

Quality of life 50 year anniversary Global Megatrends Ambition 2025 Corporate Responsibility Values Alignment Spirit and 3B

If our team members are walking out of the HR sessions thinking how exciting is this, how good is this as an opportunity for me and I understand where I fit in – we have done well. The support from your village managers to date in getting this done has been fantastic, please pass on our thanks.
