Brenda Bonner (Retail Manager), Todd Dawkins (Retail Assistant)

Portside CafĂŠ is the first retail offering that Morris has installed on a work site rather than a traditional village. The space was converted from a site crib room and provides a convenient lunch option for Port Hedland workers. In addition to our standard retail offering of snacks and cold beverages, our customers can enjoy freshly prepared food including paninis, Turkish breads and salads - all of which are made daily and served in eco friendly sugarcane pulp containers. Our expansive beverage menu includes barista coffee, freshly squeezed juices, milkshakes and smoothies. For our customers wanting something hot, we offer gourmet pies, sausage rolls, chicken wings, pizza by the slice and more still to come. The installation which was completed in three days, included new cabinetry, kitchen equipment, shelving and furniture for the seating area which really transformed the area. A special thank you to the installation crew including Daniel Zarew, Sara Cockman, Peter Ferrari, Brenda Bonner, Todd Dawkins, Chess Dickhart, Gordon Murchie and Mick Grant. In the first two weeks of opening, we have seen strong sales and expect to see great things from this addition to the Hamilton business.

The theme for NAIDOC Week 2017 was ‘OUR LANGUAGES MATTER’. Languages are the breath of life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. For tens of thousands of years, they have played a unique and essential role in cultural identity, linking people to their land and water and in the transmission of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, spirituality and rites, through story and song. They are the original languages of this nation and a priceless treasure, not just for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, but for all Australians.

Dreaming Series T-Shirts These shirts are from the Morris ‘Dreaming’ series. Having our staff wear these shirts is a fantastic way to celebrate NAIDOC Week. Turtle Dreaming is the name of this design. It’s an acknowledgment of the coastal Aboriginal people that have the sea turtle as their totem. The sea turtle is on the endangered species list. In the design, the circles between each turtle represent meeting places where our ancestors would teach culture, hold ceremonies and share stories. The texture running alongside the turtles are our ancestors, and the hatching inside these textures represent the connection between our people and our land. Even though the design emphasises a coastal connection between the sea and the people, I feel that it’s also important to show the connection with the people and the land. ~ Artist: Sheldon Lee

Collinsville Village Asbestos Removal | Mark Bertwistle

Here are a few pictures taken just before the asbestos removal started at Bulloch Court.

Arglye has received 99% customer satisfaction for the second time. This is an exceptional outcome by the team. A Morris team member also picked up Employee of the Month across the business for July - that now gives three recipients of the Award, which is remarkable.

SUSTAINING OUR COMMUNITIES VTEC Employees

By Vicki Sorrenson, Argyle HSEQ Advisor, WA Arriving at site for the first time can be pretty daunting, so Jason Tanner (Argyle Village Manager) and I spent considerable time talking with our VTEC employees, Justine and Sheleah. We addressed their concerns, which were all the normal things that can be confusing when you first arrive at site. Our entire team and especially the HODs made a concerted effort to make them feel welcome and settle them into the teams. Jason and I conducted welfare checks with them several times throughout each day and had a de-brief at the end of each shift. While at site, Justine and Sheleah were rotated through all departments (catering, housekeeping, laundry, HLC and retail) and despite being apprehensive at first, quickly settled in. The girls have been fantastic and feedback from each department has only been of the positive nature ~ both good workers keen to be part of our operations. The girls have been a pleasure to have on site, just fantastic.

If there were ever a template on how to Onboard employees in a 3B kind of way, I doubt you will find a better example than Argyle. What’s impressive here is the “whole team” effort. Everyone has contributed in a 3B way, they have been friendly and welcomed Justine and Sheleah to site, they have connected and made a plan to look after the girls and they have been real and recognised their apprehension. This is Argyle’s first time hosting VTEC employees and they have set the bar pretty high. ~ Jay Jepsen | National Resourcing Manager, Operations WSB

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH JUNE

Winner TERRY MEACHAM MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR / AIRPORT LOGISTICS | ARGYLE VILLAGE “Terry is a true example of Morris Core Values and 3B Customer Service. He always goes out of his way to help team mates and uses his 3Bs to help motivate and lead others to get the job done safely. Rio Tinto recently asked Morris if any of our employees had a Cert 4 in Training and Assessment, and if so, they would like to recognise this and add them to the Rio training team. Terry saw this as a great opportunity and over two R&Rs, completed his Cert 4 in Training and Assessment. Thanks to Terry’s initiative, he is now a recognised Rio Trainer and Assessor, and when new Morris team members arrive at site, Terry is now able to VOC Bus drivers and workers who are required to operate light vehicles. This has been extremely helpful to the operation of the village by eliminating the time that new workers had to wait for a Rio assessor to become available.”

Also Nominated ASHLEIGH HILL FM EAST ADMINISTRATOR | ORIGIN EAST “I’ve worked closely with Ashleigh over the past three months of my secondment and I have always seen Ashleigh behave in a manner aligning to our core values and 3B framework. In particular, her strong bias for action - nothing seems to be a hassle for Ashleigh and she gets things done in a moment. She’s friendly to all internal and external stakeholders. Another action of hers where she was ‘Succeeding through teamwork’ was when she created an EAP laminated card for the team to keep with them when she realised they may not have these details. Ashleigh is an asset to not only the Origin Project but to Morris in general.” ~ Laura Ahern

JOHANNA DE BEURS BUS DRIVER UTILITY | GOLDEN GROVE “Johanna serves as a powerful role model and motivator at GG to inspire others to not just dream things but to live them by achieving them. She demonstrates a value of a strong bias for action by upskilling herself to obtain her bus licence, gaining aerodrome airside competencies and her most recent achievement, applying for Mines Rescue. Johanna exhibits a genuine sense of caring for our residents by a cheery welcome or offering assistance where she can. She is a integral part of a small team putting her multi-skills and best foot forward, encapsulating all aspects of our values to be Golden Grove’s Morris Employee of the Month.“ ~ Eddie Paku

ANDREW MOODY UTILITY CLEANING | BROADMEADOW “Andrew is one exceptional guy, we at Broadmeadow Mine Site are very lucky to have him. He definitely has Morris Core Values, loves to help every team member, goes above and beyond in making our Mine Site clean, and is very professional in every thing he does. Our monthly task was to make sure all our skirting boards where completed in a timely manner and it has. He ensures that all our scope is completed for the day and in every effort to make sure that something else is completed that’s not on the scope. Our client has noticed what exceptional work Andrew has been doing.“ ~ Debbie Daves

BAYDEN HARPER TRADE ASSISTANT | ORIGIN EAST “I would like to nominate Bayden because of his determination, hard work and effectiveness. He is a great person to work with, taking on all jobs with enthusiasm and dedication. His attitude towards safety should be awarded. Bayden has a proactive attitude and always ensures his work mates are engaged in the job and work is performed safely.” ~ Ashleigh Hill

SHELLEY LUDEICE MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR | ORIGIN PROJECT “Shelley is very professional, approachable, reliable and confident in her role as the FM Maintenance Coordinator. She has an excellent relationship with local suppliers, the FM team and the wider Morris work groups. She always has the time to explain how processes in Mex work no matter how busy she is. She brings a positive bubbly and fun vibe to the office.” ~ Peter Sheffield
