3B WINS AWARD Morris received the Innovation in Training & Development Award at the 2017 Australian Mines and Metals Association (AMMA) Industry Awards gala dinner in August. The award was in recognition of Morris’ 3B service model and transformation journey. This amazing accolade highlights the success of our 3B program and how it has been embraced by each and every Morris team member. CEO Fiona Berkin and National Organisational Development Manager Darren Andrew, went on stage to accept the award and thanked the entire Morris family for this wonderful achievement. What started out as the 3B customer service model has evolved to become a cultural transformation program, according to Fiona. “It started about three years ago,” she said. “The downturn in the resources sector made us realise we had to do something to differentiate ourselves in the market. “We knew we had good customer service, but not great because it was not consistent, so we came up with the 3B model. “Over the first 12 months, we rolled out a training program to all our teams and it was picked up amazingly quickly and embraced by our employees.” Fiona subsequently attended a global marketing conference where it was suggested that if a business wasn’t hi-tech, then it had better excel at humanity or it would not survive. “A light went on for me and I thought we must embed 3B into our culture,” Fiona shared. Once it was embedded, it would be second nature for employees to provide exemplary customer service – to both external and internal customers, she said. Since the launch of the 3B Transformation Journey, staff turnover rates at Morris have been on a downward trend. It was a night of celebration for Morris as we were also given a 15-year long membership award and received a special mention for our STRONG Program submission for the Health & Wellbeing Award.

KEEPING STRONG WITH MORRIS’ HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PROGRAM

Meet Ryan Ryan Mahoney | HLC How long have you worked at Morris? I’ve worked with Morris as a HLC for six months. So far, from what you have learnt and seen, what do you enjoy most about life as a HLC at Morris? I’ve loved meeting people from different walks of life, hearing their stories and having an impact on each others lives through friendship, training or both. What has been your career highlight to date? Always make time for life. There’s always plenty of work to be done and no matter how much you do there will always be more, so be sure to fit in family, friends and experiences as a priority. What is the key ingredient to being successful in the health and fitness industry? More than one ingredient, but my top ones are having an open mind, continuing to learn and being genuine with everyone you come across. Name 3 people either dead or alive you would invite to dinner and why? Robin Williams because he was deep, meaningful and hilarious. Elon Musk because his mind is incredible and I’d love to witness it first hand, and my Mum and Dad (okay that’s four) because they’re on the opposite side of the country and moments like that are precious! If a movie was made about your life - what would it be called and who would play you? ‘Man Child’. I ran with that because you’re either going to get me completely sensible, professional and grown up or rolling around acting like a child, spitting out fun facts that have absolutely no meaning and not eating my vegetables! Obviously which side of me you’ll see depends on the situation I’m in. Who would play me? Maybe Bradley Cooper, he’s someone who can take on both roles well.

Sara Cockman (State Merchandise Manager – WSB) won the ‘RISING STAR AWARD’ within the Women in Convenience category at the AACS Gala Dinner held in Sydney. Sara was nominated due to her successes to date, such as the complete site merchandising rollout at remote mine sites in Western Australia including Argyle Diamond Mine, Cloudbreak and Bluebird - all of which have had significant and positive contributions towards the overall Morris business. Sara Says: “Not so long ago, retail in the remote mining industry consisted of a few shelves of bare basics sold from behind the bar. Today, Morris guests enjoy a comprehensive and modern retail convenience offering. This includes cafés with fully trained baristas and a wide range of health foods for residents looking to improve their health and wellness. Selected sites also retail high end products such as the Argyle pink diamonds and jewelry. I look forward to delivering more innovations to the remote industry such as extending our café offering with a focus on food service, developing our tavern offer and continuing to modernise and improve the look of our stores.” I wanted to say a very special thank you to Daniel Zarew – I’m privileged to have Daniel as my Manager and so grateful for his continuous and ongoing strength of leadership, guidance, and encouragement. I truly love coming to work every day and feel so lucky to be in such a position. Thank you also to both Peter Filshie and Fiona Berkin for their support to our Retail department and allowing us to deliver such exciting projects to our sites. Lastly, to the WA Ops Team, Shaun, Marcus and Todd, as well as the Retail Teams and Managers on site – thank you all for your ongoing commitment to retail. Without sites delivering the high service standards to our customers, we wouldn’t be here, and I can’t wait to see what we can continue to achieve together in the future.” A NOTE FROM FIONA

Morris entered FMG Hamilton in the 2017 Savour Australia Hostplus Awards for Excellence this year, in the SiteContract Caterer category. The Awards for Excellence is a nationally recognised, independently judged awards program that recognises exceptional service and culinary talent across Australia. Hamilton was nominated as a finalist after a site visit by a judge, where he assessed Hamilton against an extensive list of criteria such as service, housekeeping of room and taste of food and presentation. The awards night was held in Perth on 28th August and Morris representatives from Hamilton and the Perth office attended. Although we did not win, it was still a proud moment for the team when Morris was announced as a finalist on the night. Well done to the Hamilton team for their amazing efforts! Operations Manager Marcus Patton is very proud of the effort and the result has only made them more determined to win next year.

“How fantastic Sara. I was lucky enough to congratulate you on the night via phone. I did just want to pen something further. I think you are the first individual (as opposed to the company) that has won a National Award for our organisation. So, you are a first! A monumental achievement. We are all proud of you.”

Spring Gully Village Julian Roberts | Lead Operations Manager - APLNG Project Due to the replacement of flooring in SGV kitchen, we needed to relocate the dining room into the recreation room for dinner service Sunday night and breakfast Monday morning. Village Manager Nadine and Assistant Village Manager Raylene coordinated the planning with the contractors and all stakeholders. The SGV catering team, lead by Head Chef Margo, did an excellent job relocating the entire dining room and transporting food from the kitchen to rec room for service. All went to plan with hot food, cold crib, desserts etc all delivered to scope and injury and incident free for both meal periods. A huge thank you to Rusty and the FM West team for lending us helping hands to move all the heavy equipment, ensure all the electrical equipment was loaded and tested for safety.

Resource People Fiona was interviewed in the August edition of AMMA’s quarterly magazine Resource People.

Hamilton Congratulations to the Hamilton team who recently hosted their first Eat Street event. The event was a hit with the residents!

Morris Certified External auditors from Compliance Australia Certification Services (CACS) have recommended certification to SAFETY OHSAS 18001, ENVIRONMENT ISO 14001 and QUALITY ISO 9001 for our Brisbane and Perth Offices. For the first time, our operational sites have undergone a certification audit process and Reedy Creek and Spring Gully Village achieved certification to SAFETY OHSAS 18001. This a fantastic achievement given the scope change to incorporate AM/FM and updated versions of Environment ISO 14001 (2015) and Quality ISO 9001 (2015) and change from AS/NZS 4801 to the internationally recognised OHSAS 18001 for Safety. There were no non-conformances. This certification was achieved through demonstrating 3B behaviours and reinforces our core values of No Compromise on Safety and Success Through Teamwork. At the audit exit meeting, the auditors acknowledged the significant improvement in our Management Systems in the last 12 months and thanked all involved in the audit for their engagement and openness. This external certification to international standards reinforces our commitment to achieving incident-free operations, minimising impact on the environment and providing consistent quality products and services for our customers. Our good work now continues in maintaining this certification and ensuring continuous improvement.

The Origin Project has achieved a TRIFR of ZERO, which is outstanding because there were no major incidents or injuries to Morris staff or contractors in the last 12 months. The team have remained focused, mindful and safe both at home and on the job. This is a fantastic achievement in all areas - housekeeping, kitchens, facilities management, administration, offsite cleaning, security and especially whilst driving. We are very proud of the team but it doesn’t stop here. Our next action is to ensure it remains at zero to prevent injury to our valued staff. “It’s not a goal, it’s a choice” is a prominent catchphrase we are rolling out across the sites along with keepsake items. A roadshow of events was held last week at Condabri Central, Reedy Creek and Spring Gully Villages. The staff were given the night off (as best we could) to relax and enjoy their successes, with Adrian Bridge (EGM ESB), Ben Edwards (Acting EGM AM/FM) and Julian Roberts (Operations Manager) manning the BBQs. Staff were treated to a banquet of reef and beef prepared by our wonderful kitchen team (95% effort) and cooked by Adrian, Ben and JR (5% effort). The magical voices of staff members as they sung their hearts out during karaoke at Condabri, and a few questionable dance moves made the night quite a showstopper. Reedy Creek and Spring Gully avoided the dulcet tones of random Elvis impersonators, which resulted in very enjoyable functions, particularly with celebratory cakes and mid-strength bubbly. All up the celebrations were extremely well received. A huge thank you to Ben, Adrian, JR and Laura who helped coordinate the events and gave their time so the staff could have a night off. Now for this success to continue and everyone to always have no compromise on safety.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH JULY

Winner SUCHANAN (SUCHI) DENHAM CLEANING UTILITY BROADMEADOW A BIG congratulations to Suchanan (Suchi) Denham, the winner of Employee of the Month in July! Suchi was nominated a record number of three times. “Suchi loves coming to work every day, she is so friendly with everyone. When she knows her scope for the day this lovely little lady just gets in and gets things done without compromising anyone’s safety or her own, she is always lending a hand to help everyone else’s tasks. Suchi is a pleasure to have onboard. Always comes to work on time, likes to do some overtime shifts now and then. Another person that always is noticed by our client, and has a great eye for detail, some days she does surprise me and will do an amazing clean on something that’s not included in her daily scope. Suchi will have been with Morris for one year as of 8th August and it’s been great seeing her lovely smile as soon as she comes to work for our prestart meetings every tour. This lady does go above and beyond every time I see her.“ ~ Debbie Daves “Suchi is always a team player and is always willing and able to help.” ~ Andrew Moody “Suchi is a team player and always completing her tasks to the highest level”. ~ Kristin Grogan

“Six months ago, Angel started learning the role of Housekeeping Relief Supervisor at Argyle Village and in this time, Angel has proven to be a great leader and manager of the Housekeeping department.

JORDAN GRENFELL PLUMBER | CONDABRI

Angel always starts the day off with a great informative prestart with clear communication of what is required throughout the day to minimise confusion and lost opportunities with little time wasted.

“Jordan is very knowledgeable about his work, he believes in team work and is hard working. Jordan very much puts safety first.” ~ Gurunath Pendse

DARREN MASTERMAN FM EAST | CONDABRI “Darren is always thinking of others. Being away from home for 14 days means that we are away from our home and our luxuries. Whenever Darren needs to go into town for work, he always brings us back a treat and it is such a simple thinG like that that can make someone’s day out here. Darren is always willing to help others.”

RITA LACOVONI | CLEANING UTILITY | BLACKWATER “Rita has a wonderful bubbly personality. She treats people with respect and is always joyful in her daily tasks. She is always willing to help fellow team mates where she can and nothing is too much trouble for her. She has an amazing ability to continue with work when life storms come along. This has shown her true grit and committment to which I have been really impressed with. She is amazing when it comes to spotting hazards and rectifying where she can. She has led the team over the last few months with her hazard reporting.

Angel was recently nominated by her peers as a Health and Safety Rep for Argyle and always shows a great safety culture with no compromise on Safety. Angel is very passionate about safety and always asks her team about tasks they will be doing during the day, what are the hazards and controls in place. Angel will be attending MOJO training next month and will be a great asset to the Village as a Mojo Mate for new workers. Her enthusiasm in her job rubs off on her team who often compliment her at Toolbox with the All Hands In recognition awards. Angel is a perfect example of Morris Core Values and 3B mixed together.” ~ Jason Tanner

PHILLIP GRAY CLEANING UTILITY | BMC SOUTH WALKER CREEK “Phil always shows up to work on a daily basis ready to give 100%. Phil always works as part of a team and is willing to help out any of his team members at any given time. Nothing is ever too big of a job for Phil. He has a great relationship with the client and demonstrates all aspects of the 3B culture. Phil is happy to guide and coach new employees to make them feel part of the team. When site had a 120man shutdown on, it was nothing for Phil to make sure that the bins were emptied and that the area was kept clean to relieve some of the pressure of the cleaners.” ~ John Yanes

Rita is a conscientious worker and a valued member of my team.” ~ Ngaire Lang
