MOBILISATION THE EASTWOOD

Miles

Morris is in mobilisation mode again, this time at The Eastwood Village in Miles. The 201 room village is set to welcome residents back after some time in care and maintenance. The primary residents for The Eastwood village will come form the Origin Project as their work progresses further away from the original camps such as Condabri. Julian Roberts, Project Manager Origin APLNG said, “The mobilisation team did an amazing job with co-ordination of their work force and subcontractors. You really did put in the hard yards. Congratulations and thank you for mobilising safely with zero harm. The mobilisation team included Operations Manager Steven Thomson, Project Executive Chef, Paul Temple and Maintenance Lead in the East, Shelley Ludeke.

NINJA WARRIOR #acureforfreyia

Origin site operations were shut down early on Sunday 5 November, so Spring Gully residents could participate in the Ninja Warrior event. The Strong HLCs transformed the village into a fitness obstacle course, which included tyre throwing, running, a dip in the pool and so much more. Participants were pushed to the limit but all in the name of charity. The event was organised to raise money for six year old Freyia. In January of 2017 Freyia was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called Clear Cell Sarcoma. There are only 30 cases of this rare form of cancer in the world. There is a need to raise $197,000 to get her to Germany for targeted therapy as there is no treatment available in Australia. A campaign called #acureforfreyja was set up seven months ago and there is still a need to raise more funds to get her overseas for her treatment.

The Ninja Warrior event was the brainchild of Morris Health and Lifestyle Coordinator Corey Loft with the entire team onsite at Spring Gully pulling together to make the event a huge success. In total the Ninja Warrior event raised a massive $3,500 for Freyia. When Lizzie (Freyja’s mum) saw the photographs and found out how much money was raised, she had this to say. “You guys are amazing!!! Omg…tears…I hope to hug you all one day…please know everything you do makes a huge difference and will be effectively saving her life xo” Sofia Foukimoana (Origin HSE Lead) said, “I have been absolutely blown away with the kindness and generosity of the people I am surrounded by. You have all proven that we really are one big family. From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every one of you for all that you have done to help and donate.”

Make sure you follow #acureforfreyja on social media and visit www.acureforfreyja.com

Spring Gully Village

Check out the awesome way that the Spring Gully guests keep up to date with what is happening at site. The LCD screens display important messages about the Strong program, helping reduce printing costs and the impact on the environment. Reedy Creek will be next to receive the screens.

Hamilton Village

We held a “White Ribbon Day” function to raise awareness and prevent violence against women. Attendees of the function took an oath to STAND UP, SPEAK OUT AND ACT TO PREVENT MEN’S VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. The event also raised funds for a worthy cause.

Desserts

Check out these desserts from Spring Gully Village. Smashed pavlova, individual truffles and caramel slice with marshmallow and slithered almonds.

ERA Village, NT

November was a big month, with a record amount of outdoor activities including rock art tours, fishing and sunset photography. Many ERA and Morris employees were able to catch their first ever Barramundi which was great to see. The culture in the camp and town was buzzing with many of the excited anglers telling their fishing story (the one that didn’t get away) to anyone who would listen.

HEALTH & LIFESTYLE COORDINATOR KARNTAMA VILLAGE HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A HLC AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED WITH MORRIS? I’ve been in the fitness industry for 8 years and a HLC with Morris since September. SO FAR, FROM WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED AND SEEN, WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING A HLC AT MORRIS? The people are AMAZING! Everyone knows your name, gives you a happy good morning and is up for a chat. It’s hands down the loveliest bunch of people I have been around. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR CAREER HIGHLIGHT TO DATE? There is no single one highlight – there are many amazing moments where something “clicks” in the mind of someone you are training with and it changes the course of their life into a healthy positive future. CAN YOU SHARE ANY TIPS OR CHALLENGES YOU’VE FACED ON YOUR JOURNEY? Be consistent – sometimes not everything goes your way, despite all your best efforts – but if you know WHY you are doing what you do and focus on what matters to you, the success will follow. WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME? Hiking, surfing, kayaking, and hanging out with my dog. If I’m outdoors and near the ocean I’m happy! WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED? When things wouldn’t go our way as kids our father would tell us “Don’t be a glum bum, don’t be sour, with every rain there grows a flower!.” This cute little rhyme taught me to be positive and look for the silver lining in any situation. WHAT IS THE KEY INGREDIENT TO BEING SUCCESSFUL IN THE HEALTH AND FITNESS INDUSTRY? Walk the talk, practice what you preach. If you expect to influence other people to look after their health and fitness - you need to as well. Prioritise your physical and mental health and happiness and expect the best from yourself. NAME 3 PEOPLE EITHER DEAD OR ALIVE YOU WOULD INVITE TO DINNER AND WHY? Chris Moore – Author of Barbell Buddha and a founder of Barbell Shrugged. He was a very positive and down to earth man whose wisdom has greatly influenced my life and always given me direction. Krissy Mae Cagney – Author & serial fitness entrepreneur. I would love Krissy’s business advice more than anything having taken multiple companies from creation to making millions and some of the best programming I have ever seen it would be invaluable to know even a small piece of how she does things. My partner – It’s important to take every opportunity you can to spend with family when you work away, and I don’t think he’d be too pleased if he wasn’t invited. IF A MOVIE WAS MADE ABOUT YOUR LIFE - WHAT WOULD IT BE CALLED & WHO WOULD PLAY YOU? “You’re a little grumpy when you’re hungry” played by Jennifer

ANTONIO FAMADOR HEAD CHEF, BYERWEN VILLAGE “Antonio has been involved in mobilisation and operation at Byerwen Village. He has consistently produced quality food and presented it well. He has grown into a true leader in the kitchen by inducting new staff the Morris way. Antonio’s performance since being at Byerwen has been outstanding. He takes pride in everything he does and his commitment to doing a good job is unquestionable. Antonio has shown initiative and asked for help in the areas of food costs, financials and policies and procedures. He wants to take it all in and do it properly.

Antonio has taken steps to enhance his communication skills which has resulted in him being a fantastic mentor to his team. His patience and thorough approach to inducting his team really does show when it comes to the quality of food and service his team produces. He has led his crew to be a very happy, supportive, can do team who stepped up (without being asked) to mobilise the rec room and administration building. They did so in a willing, enthusiastic manner. Antonio has led by example and his team has followed. He has displayed the Morris core value of ‘succeeding through teamwork’ whilst showing a ‘strong bias for action’ which has contributed towards the success of Byerwen Village.” ~ Paula OConnor
