Tadgh MacCárthaigh GAA News. The Junior A footballers having defeated Ilen Rovers in the first round of the Championship recorded two recent league victories. In the Carbery- Beara league they receorded a 0-14 to 0-11 win against O Donovan Rossa to stay joint top of division two while last Sunday in Aughaville they played Kilmichael in the County league and with an impressive second half display ran out deserving winners on a final scoreline of 0-14 to 0-7. This victory also ensures they are joint top of the County league having played five games. Round three of the Championship is fixed for the weekend of 7th-9th July with the draws yet to be finalised. The under 14 footballers had two recent league games down in Beara with very different results. They were well beaten by a very strong Castletownbere team while they recorded a comfortable win against Urhan last Sunday in Eyeries. The under 12 team are having a very good league Campaign with victories over Kilmeen, Ilen Rovers and last week defeated neighbours Clan Na Gael on a scoreline of 4-11 to 4-5, while their only defeat was against Adrigole. The under 11 footballers also played two games recently, winning away to Clondrohid while losing to Bantry. Both the under 16 and minor footballers have been inactive recently due to exams going on. The under 16s played a useful challenge game against O Donovan Rossa last week, recording a good win. Cul Camp: The Cul camp goes ahead this year from the 10th to 14th July, this is a great week of fun and fitness, application should be made to club officers as soon as possible. Cork: The Munster Senior football Final against Kerry goes ahead on Sunday 2nd July in Killarney. The club will again be represented by the O’Driscoll brothers Colm and Kevin while Brian is recovering from injury. The lads are wished all the best as they attempt to upset the odds against the old enemy.

Tadgh MacCárthaigh Ladies GAA News. The Tadgh MacCarthaigh ladies have completed their county league fixtures and are currently preparing for the upcoming championship. It was a mid table berth at the end of the league campaign, the ladies producing so many good performances, which sometimes didn’t translate into the desired results. The ladies are now focusing on the championship, which will commence in mid July. The ladies have been drawn against Keelnameela, Carrigaline, Naomh Fionnbarra and St. Colums. The U.14 girls have enjoyed a solid opening to their season, they secured wins over St. Colum’s, Ibane Gaels and were unlucky with results against Gabriel Rangers & Munitir Bhaire after two cracking games. After being moved up to grade B this year, the u12 girls got off to a great start with two wins against Ibane Gaels and St. Colums. Then followed losses to Castlehaven and Bandon, but expectation is high for a strong end to the league in the upcoming final three games. The U.16 and U.18 teams are currently in hiatus whilst the state examinations conclude but once July rolls around it will be full steam ahead.

Caheragh Vintage Threshing: The fundraising season has got off to a good start. The weather on the whole has been kind, enabling us to occupy sites on the street as well as areas such as shops and filling stations, where permission was needed and given - many thanks to these. To date we have held a Bingo, also four flag days manned by committee members and voluntary supporters, all of the Flag Days, namely - Bantry, Cork, Castletownbere and Kinsale have been successful yielding on the whole an increase on last years totals. This is cause for celebration, however we have 10 more before season's end and again volunteers are needed to maintain this success - Offers; to Kathleen Kirby on 028 31396 or Pat Gregory on 028 31910

Professor Gerry O’Sullivan Memorial Park — Next Phase The park is now maturing and we are about to commence the next phase—the erection of the memorial to Prof Gerry. We will also start to develop and layout the Themed Gardens. The themed gardens will have a twofold purpose: 1. To recognize and signify the intertwined phases of Gerry’s life. 2. To illustrate the “Science through nature” theme The first garden — “The Gurrane Garden” commenced with the setting of trees (native species) by Gerry’s classmates in Gurrane National School. The next garden will be the St Fachtna’s De La Salle Garden. Shortly we will commence local, national, and international fundraising. Suggestions and ideas are always welcome from genuinely interested parties.

Knock Pilgrimage The annual pilgrimage to Knock left Caheragh at 5 a.m on to Aughaville and Drimoleague collecting pilgrims along the way then leaving for our long journey with 37 pilgrims on board on Saturday 24th June. We stopped at the Auburn lodge in Ennis for breakfast and stopped there again on the way home for dinner. There was a large attendance in Knock and the weather was kind to us, dry and a little cool. It was the day of the annual national pilgrimage of St. Joseph's Young Priests Society and Archbishop Michael Neary was the chief celebrant. We arrived back home around midnight feeling fulfilled and thankful for such an inspiring day

Mass on Dromore Hill We look forward to Mass at the cross on Dromore Hill at 3pm on Tuesday 15th August, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This will depend on the weather being dry both on the day itself and on the days before it because if the ground is very wet it would be unsafe to climb up. Thanks to the landowners for allowing access to the cross and thanks also to all who are very helpful in organising the Mass.

Pat & Len’s Diamond Wedding Anniversary. We would like to extend a huge warm "Thank You " to all who joined in the celebration, those who contributed to Charity Fund, sent cards and good wishes. Thanks to our wonderful family, who together with their Caheragh co-conspirators; Kathleen Kirby and Jeanette Keohane managed to produce such a wonderful surprise. We hope you all had as much fun as we did.

YOUNG-AT-HEART ( CAHERAGH ACTIVE RETIRED CLUB ) Sadly since the last newsletter we have lost a greatly valued founder of the Club in Mary Kate O' Sullivan R.I.P. Mary Kate brought a very keen sense of humour and dry wit to our gatherings and enjoyed the " craic ", with a little smile. At the moment the floor in St. Mary's hall, our usual venue, is being replaced and will provide, when finished, a safer and warmer environment. When finished we hope to hold an "Open Day" when, would be members can come and chat and see the sort of activities we engage in, and perhaps share new ideas. Because of infirmity and age our members are depleted - a warm welcome awaits any new members. We recently enjoyed a meal at the Donemark Restaurant, also a special birthday meal with group members and friends of Sheila Roberts met in the Eldon Hotel to celebrate Sheila's birthday. A trip to Griffin's Garden Centre included a lovely meal and some lovely plants were purchased. A shopping trip to Wilton followed by lunch/dinner in the Viaduct. We hope by the next newsletter we'll be back at home base, around the table in St. Mary's Hall.

One The Father to love us The Son to save us The Spirit to guide us To love one another Like Jusus, our brother. The lady his mother One like no other One soul, one destination One people, one salvation That’s all that we know As we wander here below. So onwards we go Alone and together Now and forever Till time, it is done For there is only One. Seán O’Flaherty
