Owner, West Long, with his sons, thank a wide group of people for making the opening of Good Times of Olean a reality Thursday, July 18. In attendance were State Senator Catherine M. Young and Olean Mayor, Linda Witte.

By Chris Chapman OLEAN -- Looking for that place to go for a game of corn hole? How about a euchre tournament? After a ribbon cutting last Thursday, July 18, that and so much more is now available to those in the area. Good Times has come to Olean. Situated next to a longdeserted putt-putt golf course the new $8 million, 40,000 square foot facility constructed by Long Consulting owner, West Long, with some help by Todd Scott, boasts of a 16-lane AMF bowling alley, complete with state of the art electronic scoring. Have a hard time following your turn? With this system your face can be part of the video scoreboard. The facility is also home to an arcade, three restaurants and an events center, and employs over 150 full-and part-time people, even bringing a few back to their roots. “Our bar manager is from Bolivar,” West Long, owner of the facility, said. “She was working up in the Buffalo area. We were able to bring her home and offer her a place to work.” According to one dignitary, the facility has attracted a lot of attention around the area, as any building its size would, but according to one

of the dignitaries at the ribbon cutting, it goes beyond the Olean area. “The buzz around the Western New York region has been this place, Good Times of Olean,” State Senator Catherine M. Young (R - 57th District) said. “we are always looking to enhance the quality of life in our area and I think this is going to be the right thing to do it.” Olean Mayor, Linda Witte, said the existence of such a project is exactly what was envisioned when the East State Street refurbishing was planned and started to take shape. “[Council President] Ann McLaughlin and I were telling people that, if we fixed the street, something good is going to happen,” she said. “This is the start of a lot of good things.” One of the biggest focuses for the project, according to Long, has been a family atmosphere; something that is a place families can come to together and have fun. That goal may be in reach with beach volleyball courts, batting cages, a game room, corn hole, kan jam and many other recreational activities. Several league possibilities exist as well. Darts, pool, cards and many other ideas abound, he said.

Bowlers can go to the Snak Shak for a pizza, burger or any other food expected in a bowling facility. If bowlers, or event-goers of any kind, are looking for a bit more a substantial meal, a trip to the Hammer Back Bar and Grill is in order. The Hammer Back has the feel of a saloon. It offers customers a chance to sit and have a signature burger, one of which bears the same name as the restaurant, Hammer Back. One of the things that makes this area special, according to developer, Todd Scott, is the mezzanine that overlooks the events center, just off the bar and grill area. The mezzanine is also an adult game area, he said, housing ping pong tables, dart boards, pool tables and card tables. From the overlook, customers can look one way and watch the bowling lanes. A view over the other side gives way to the 1,400 person events center. The center can be used for concerts, indoor sporting events in the winter, expos, proms and several other uses, Barie said. As the facility opened, the space was being set up for regional blues artists to celebrate the opening, as well as a performance by Country Music star, Keith Anderson. Anderson performed to a full house Saturday, July 20. According to personnel of The Point, situated right next to the events center, the insulation and double door entrance way eliminated nearly all of the sound coming from the show. The sound dampening is a benefit for those that are looking for a quality dining facility, even while a raucous concert, or other event, is going on next to the restaurant. If the Bar and Grill is not quite what is sought for a meal, The Point, a mid to upscale steak and seafood restaurant, brings guests into the historic side of the Olean, Portville and Allegany area with historic pictures, to include an aerial image of Bradner Stadium and the, at the time, newly constructed ball fields of Forness Park. Visitors to the site can expect to pay $3.50 per game for bowling, with a $2 shoe rental. A round of 18 holes on the putt-putt course, one that could be found at some of the best places in Florida, according to Barie, will cost $3 a person. To spend some time in the batting cages will cost $3.
