The Taste of Ellicottville takes place next weekend August 10 & 11 from 12-4pm each day offering a sample of the best of Ellicottville’s fine restaurant menus as they set up “Cafe Style” on the streets. This family-friendly event celebrates Ellicottville’s 22 amazing and diverse restaurants surrounded by fun and exciting street performers. An Ellicottville Chopped competition sponsored by the Seneca

Allegany Resort & Casino will have your mouths watering and anxious to try the recipes out at home. Judges sample each restaurants signature dish in front of a live audience. Food item tickets are $1 each and restaurants will charge $1 to $4 for their dishes. Entrees, desserts, healthy choices and non-alcoholic drinks will be some of the featured choices. Story and Photo By John Thomas, Staff Writer

One of the most highly anticipated events of this year takes place today. Maribeth and Ed Rick have moved one of Ellicottville’s most popular establishments into new digs on the northeast corner of Washington and Monroe Streets. “We’re gathering up the essence of the Gin Mill, walking it across the street and letting it go!” says Maribeth. When she says the last part, her hands burst upwards like someone throwing confetti in the air. It’s just a small indication of the enthusiasm the couple has about the move. They are not the only ones; the move has been the talk of the town for the past six months. Your Correspondent was lucky enough to be given a guided tour of the establishment by Maribeth. The first thing you will notice is the size; it’s easily twice the size of the old place. The main area holds the original bar. Maribeth explains they added two eight-foot extensions making the entire bar 36 feet long. The brick walls all around extend upward to the 18-foot ceilings. The Ricks

REAL ESTATE SALES & VACATION RENTALS

Publisher’s Word Reality check: is it me, or has this been the most awesome summer of fun you can remember in Ellicottville? It’s been just one weekend festival after another, and the quality of each event has been top notch! I must say, after last weekend’s Jazz Fest activities, I’m getting a little bushed. Shame on you if you missed it – we’re talking about top jazz musicians, who have all played with the big names in the world of jazz and blues. Free concerts outside all day, and a very lively nightlife all add up to one thing - I’m pooped! So, time to rest, right? Wrong …

By Brooke Szpaicher Have you checked out the newest addition to Holiday Valley’s summer activities? We have recently added eight Rossignol electric assist, or e-bikes, to our resort activities. E-bikes are a great way for riders of all abilities to climb and cruise

together. Whether you’re a “newbie” or a hardcore rider, the e-bikes help control the amount of power needed to ride up hills and cruise the terrain using eco, trails or boost mode settings. Like a regular bike, speed is controlled by pedaling, but with the feeling of a bit more power and accelerating is

easier. E-bikes are available to rent at Sky High Adventure Park daily from 9am to 5pm. A two-hour rental for $40 or three hour rental for $55, and $15 for each additional hour. Helmets are included in the rental price along with a trail map to show designated areas where e-bikes are permitted.

Needless to say, as Lucy’s hometown, Jamestown, NY has cornered the market on keeping her memory alive and well. Expecting this year to be the biggest and most well attended festival yet, the 2019 Lucille Ball Comedy Festival kicks off on Wednesday August 7th. Sharing the marquis as headliners for this year’s festival are John Mulaney (“There’s a horse...loose...in the hospital!”) on August 9 and Sebastian Maniscalco on August 10, two of the hottest stand-up comedians touring today. “This is the first time that we’ve hosted four headliner events”, says Gary Hahn, Director of Marketing and Communications at the

To solve a Sudoku puzzle, place a number into each box so that each row across, each column down, and each small 9 box square within the larger diagram (there are 9 of these) will contain every number from 1 through 9. In other words, no number will appear more than once in any row, column, or smaller 9 box square. Working with the numbers already given as a guide, complete each diagram with the missing numbers that will lead to the correct solution. Good luck!
