RI President Holger Knaack’s 2020-2021 Theme, “Rotary Opens Opportunities”
Club Bulletin 6 and 20 October 2020
Meeting Numbers 1557 and 1558 I’ve forgotten more than I’ve ever learned.
Our Club’s Future Recent disagreement within our club is unprecedented during its 32 year existence. This has led to personal conflict not acceptable in any volunteer organisation. A number of resignations have taken place, many of them related to the ongoing disagreement. The culmination of these differences occurred when President Marianne resigned a couple of days ago followed immediately by PP Rob.
Past Meetings At our meeting on 1 September, we welcomed Gabriela Coelho as speaker, introduced by PP Max. Gabriela is our candidate for the 2021 National Youth Science Forum. A very exciting outcome occurred a few days later when Gabriela was notified of her success in being selected for the Forum in January 2021. An excellent outcome!
Tuesday 15 September was the official visit to our club of District Governor David Jones and Lyn. We were pleased to also welcome Area Governor Rosie Erasmus to our meeting. DG David oversees our new District 9510, an amalgamation of the former Districts 9500 and 9520. Club Assembly will be on Tuesday 6 October at the District 9510 contains 85 separate Rotary clubs. As this Bulletin becomes public when it is uploaded onto our web site, it is not the forum to air grievances, instead, let’s use Tuesday’s Club Assembly to clear the air and get back to “Service above Self”.

Wine Sales 2020
Lyn Jones outlined her continued support of Australian Rotary Health and in particular asks us to support mental health first aid as an important part of ARH. Members would agree with the importance and urgency of Mental Health in these times of the COVID pandemic.
Our usual October excursion to Langmeil Winery has been cancelled this year due to COVID concerns. Instead, some members will collect ordered wines from Langmeil and transport to our depot where club members will label the bottles as qwe have done in the past. The location of where the labelling will be done is not finalised because of work which is currently taking place around our shed in the Brighton Oval grounds. It is hoped that this will be completed soon to allow access to our shed. The important thing is that members place orders now. Please refer to the email from Peter Hammond dated 24 September for order details. 2019 Cabernet Sauvingon or 2019 Shiraz or a mixed dozen, all at $160 dozen Orders required by 17 October, directed to PDG Peter Ochota. Collection date will be 31 October.
