So who are we featuring on the front cover this season? Well it is the General Manager of Umthunzi Hotel & Conference and also the current Chairman of the Port Shepstone Country Club, Ryan Ringo seen here with his adorable Son Braedyn Duke Ringo. Ryan not only manages this top class hotel on our KZN South Coast which is famous for their warm hospitality, breath taking sea views, delicious food and personalised service, but he is an avid golfer too who has many course accolades to boast about. He recently won together with his best friend Daryl D'Arcy the Beekman Classic title at the Port Shepstone Country Club, and also last year at the Nomads Gold Cup he won the A Division Eclectic for the Year, and was the overall winner too – however the highlight of

We all know that our earth is showing signs of a patient in declining health and it is due to excessive pollution on our planet. Man has a desire to live a luxurious life and for that, he is over consuming electricity. I do understand that we also have some serious electricity production issues in our country, but more consumers should start using solar power systems. Solar systems are nonpolluting and also more economical to run. Your readers and the general public must pay attention to the dire need of switching over to solar energy soon. Fishing Report Darrell Hattingh uring May, June and July one can expect Shad, Garrick, Kob and Rockfish to be biting. In the deeper waters you will find Reds, Rockcod and Musselcracker. A live bait presented from a ski boat or charter boat at this time of year has a good chance of “hooking” a nice Couta. There have been some “crocodiles” of over 20 kg’s caught in the past. They are not often taken from shore but it is a possibility if sardines make an appearance.

As the weather starts to cool off and winter approaches with those splendid mornings and calmer seas, let us all hope to see sardines in our waters this year. If we do get a sardine run the fishing can go from average to mayhem with every species following the shoals. The run has been poor to mediocre during the past few years but with some luck and a drop in water temperatures we may still see this phenomenon but no guarantees as nature is always full of surprises. For the ‘spearos’ and ‘crayfishermen’ it’s always been a good time in KZN on the days when the swells are down and in between cold fronts. The crayfish season has opened so please stick to the max bag limit which is 8, with a minimum size carapace length of 65 mm and none in berry (eggs). A valid seasonal licence is required which can be purchased from your local post office. Shad fishing is really great at this time of year as well but limits are max 4 per angler per day with a minimum size of 30 cm. Wishing you tightlines, safe diving and settled fishing sea's. Surﬁng Report Heather Clark am sure you’ve all enjoyed every moment of our lovely hot summer days and occasional rain showers we’ve been blessed with. Earlier in the year we had some heavy rains which caused some havoc with the surfing, but luckily the sea cleaned up pretty quick and we were right back out there enjoying the awesome surf once again. We didn’t have the greatest of waves at times when the “beasterly easterly” blew, but we did score some good summer surf.

As we head into Autumn there will be less humidity especially in the evenings when the sun begins to set. We will also start getting a few more offshore winds with more and more south westerlies, which is what us surfers pray for every night. Unfortunately during the recent lockdown with the COVID-19, and as Murphy will have it… the surf and sea conditions looked pretty amazing (from afar). Hopefully there will be a lot of hungry frothing surfers hitting the surf when the lockdown is finally over. But in the meantime let’s enjoy our lovely Autumn weather and keep ourselves and others healthy. Give me a call if you would like to learn to surf or fine tune your surfing style. Remember to keep our beaches and ocean clean. If we all pick up just one piece of rubbish on the beach it will make for a cleaner environment for both humans and animals. Happy Surfing Everyone ..
