A Letter from the LTG

ello Penguins! Hope summer has been well for you all! Be sure to keep yourselves busy whether it’s spending time with friends or family, or Key Club! I highly encourage you to keep volunteering in the summer. Key Club or not, keep serving your community! I hope you all found service at Key Club Training Conference 2017! It was so nice to see your faces and I honestly hope you had as much fun as I did at this summer event. Although we’re still in the summer,

A Letter from the DNE

ey Penguins, how have your summers been so far? Hopefully they’ve all been great, filled with food, sleep, food, and more sleep. Unfortunately, however, regardless of how much we want this paradise life to continue, we have to be brought back to reality and face all of the challenges that you left yourself by putting off different tasks during the school year. Personally,

I find my summers almost as busy as my school days except for the lack of homework :D. With that business in mind, it would be incredibly beneficial to everyone, especially yourself, if you were to get on top of things and get ready for the next school year so that you can continue to wholeheartedly participate in Key Club and be ahead of the game academically.

be sure to be as productive as you can and take this time to plan ahead. Before you know it, school’s going to be back real soon. If you are a club officer, utilize the summer to plan out your term--you don’t want to take it for granted! Same for incoming seniors (like me!). College may sound stressful but don’t stress yourself even more and start focusing on your apps even if it’s one step at the time. Despite the anticipating stress that may come along the way, don’t forget to enjoy senior year.

ountain View Key Club attended the annual Tour de Cure, a biking event that would raise money and awareness for diabetes by helping set up the event by collecting items for rest stops such as tables, water, fruits and more. All items were loaded into a truck that would be taken off to the rest stops. 3 hours was spent grouping items into specific rest stops. This event was at the HP Campus in Palo Alto.

hrough The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus—a deadly disease that steals the lives of nearly 49,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. Monday, participants wore blue. Tuesday, participants posted a picture of someone younger than they were, to appreciate babies. Wednesday, participants were challenged to eat a lemon to spread awareness and post a fact about MNT. Thursday was a throwback, where participants posted a baby picture of themselves, and Friday, participants were encouraged to donate toward the cause. This entire event lasted a week (5/22-5/26).

omestead had their annual pizza fundraiser at the Sunnyvale City Hands on the Arts Fundraiser selling Gumbas Pizza, selling each slice for $4. This is traditionally the main fundraiser for Homestead Key Club for the upcoming year, and with periodic pizza deliveries, we made sure to provide customers with warm pizzas that they would enjoy. Officers came arrived at location at 8 a.m. to help set up for the eventful day. Bright and early, with Starbucks in hand, we began to transport materials from cars, haul ice, and the hang up signs. President Eugenia Lee and committee chair Julie Wei even made a last minute errand for bottled water. Members were encouraged to sign up to help run the booth and advertise it. Advertising included walking around with the menu on them and announcing the prices. At around 2 p.m., we lowered the price of each slice to $2 to promote some last minute sales. Members stayed until the end of the event at 4 for clean-up. Overall, this was an engaging activity that will help fund for future endeavors and promoted bonding among members and the new officer team.
