2 The Roane Reader

SEEN & HEARD IN ROANE COUNTY By O.I. Seenya • A female on a motorcycle, with a small dog on the seat behind her, wearing a very small doggie helmet. • Wild boars, bears and panthers roaming around our county. • Three suicides in the City of Rockwood in five days. • A man, smiling, going the wrong way on Highway 70, waving back at all the people that were waving their arms trying to stop him, thinking they were all just being friendly. • The Roane Reader is ceasing to exist, and many kind comments heard about how much everyone has enjoyed it all these years.

Did you know that if you text 741741 in the US when you are feeling really depressed or suicidal, a crisis worker will text with you? Many people do not like talking on the phone and would be more comfortable texting. Especially some young people. It's a free service run by The Crisis Text Hot-line.

Boss’s Day Quotes

“The best leader is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” “A good manager is a man who isn’t worried about his own career but rather the careers of those who work for him.” “Management by objective works – if you know the objectives. Ninety percent of the time you don’t.” “If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat tire, the next morning you will have a flat tire.” “The secret of successful managing is to keep the five guys who hate you away from the four guys who haven’t made up their minds.” Most people like hard work. Particularly when they are paying for it.

Precious Memories By: Kay Christopher

The Roane Reader

When me and my sister, Sandra were young, instead of playing playhouse, we played newspaper. When we got older, we had the opportunity to start up our own paper, and we jumped on it. For over 25 years, The Roane Reader has been free for all the people of Roane, Anderson and Morgan Counties. In all those years, we never had a price increase on our advertising rates. A 2x4 ad was $20 and stayed that way. We weren’t in the paper business for the money. We were in it because it was in our hearts. We got very little money from it, but continued to produce one every month, just because we loved doing it. Sandra passed away, and the paper ceased to exist for about 6 months. That’s when I called her son, Justin, and asked if he could continue where his mother left off. Even though it was a big burden for him, he agreed to do it and has stepped up for the last few years. His technical expertise is what has kept The Roane Reader in business since his mother’s death. But, unfortunately, we realize it’s time to stop. This issue will be the last one for The Roane Reader. Justin’s busy work and church schedule, and my obligations to my family, has forced us to give it up. From our hearts, we want to thank all the reader’s who have continually been faithful and has had nothing but good to say about our paper. We did it for you. Thanks to all the businesses who supported us all those years by paying for the printing costs and other overhead expenses. It was a dream come true for me and Sandra, and I know she’s smiling from Heaven, appreciating her son stepping up, and realizing too, that’s it’s time to put The Roane Reader to bed for good.

I think the hardest part of holding on is letting it go.

Here's a tip if you missed the deadline for taking a payout from a plan or IRA: Ask for a penalty waiver. Failure to take a required minimum distribution can lead to a stiff penalty of 50% of the shortfall. But you needn't pay the fine if you can show you had reasonable cause for the goof, such as serious illness or bad advice from a bank, and you've taken steps to withdraw the amount. If you believe you are on solid ground, follow the instructions on IRS Form 5329 and attach a letter of explanation. The fine will be due only if IRS denies relief.

Happy Birthday

IRAs

Voluntarily pay down the federal debt and get an income tax deduction. If you're feeling charitable and want to help reduce the federal debt, Uncle Sam will say thank you. These payments qualify as charitable contributions. In the 2016 fiscal year, donors chipped in just over $2.7 million in such donations. You can give online at Pay.gov, or send a check to the Bureau of the Fiscal Service and note with your payment that it's a gift to reduce the debt held by the public.

How to Save Money When You Eat Out Senior Discounts A common myth is that senior discounts are only allowed for those 65 and older. The truth is that many restaurants offer “senior” discounts for those as young as 55. Sometimes you will find these discounts advertised on the menu. If you don’t see a senior discount listed on the menu of your restaurant of choice, remember: it never hurts to ask. Just ask your waiter if they offer any discounts for seniors. These discounts can save you as much as 10-15% of the price of your meal. AARP Dining Discounts Are you a member of AARP? Did you know that as a member you may qualify for a variety of discounts when dining out? Combo Deals For those who would like to enjoy company for a meal, but aren’t comfortable sharing, many restaurants offer a special combo meal deal which usually includes an appetizer and two entrees for one price. These can be great offers to take advantage of. Daily Meal Specials This is popular in both fast food chains and mom and pop diners. Often a sign will advertise the special of the day. A lot of restaurants offer huge savings if you order the daily special. Take Advantage of Coupons and Deals Look in your local newspaper for coupons and specials available at your local restaurants or go online to restaurants.com or groupon.com to find the best deals at national chains. There are a lot of great coupon deals out there. Take a little time and make a game out of finding these “hidden treasures”. Discount Cards Many places offer special discount cards where you collect point, punches, or stars toward rewards, often free food or drinks. Be sure each member of your family gets their own card so they can start earning points and qualify for discounts as well.

Old Wive’s Tales of Love Spells

Hazelnut Love Spell - A girl might see who her future husband was going to be by lining up hazelnuts in front of a fire, each of which represented one of the boys that was wooing her. She would then chant, "If you love me, pop and fly. If you hate me, burn and die." Water Love Spell - Another tradition from America instructs the curious girl to take a lamp and go out on the night of Hallowe'en to a spring of water and peering in she should see the reflection of her future husband. Apple Love Spell - To find out who your future partner in life is going to be try this simple divination spell. Take an apple and peel its skin off in one long piece, saying, I pare this apple round and again My sweetheart's name to flourish plain I fling the pairing o'er my head, My sweetheart's letter on the ground be read The peel should have landed in the shape of your true-love's initial.

Columbus Day - Oct. 9th

Columbus Day is a U.S. holiday that commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the New World on October 12, 1492. It was unofficially celebrated in a number of cities and states as early as the 18th century but did not become a federal holiday until 1937. For many, the holiday is a way of both honoring Columbus’ achievements and celebrating Italian-American heritage. Throughout its history, Columbus Day and the man who inspired it have generated controversy, and many alternatives to the holiday have appeared in recent years. COLUMBUS DAY TRADITIONS In many parts of the United States, Columbus Day has evolved into a celebration of Italian-American heritage. Local groups host parades and street fairs featuring colorful costumes, music and Italian food. In cities and towns that use the day to honor indigenous peoples, activities include pow-wows, traditional dance and lessons about Native American culture.

For several evenings, the moonrise comes soon after sunset. This results in an abundance of bright moonlight early in the evening, which was a traditional aide to farmers and crews harvesting their summer-grown crops. Hence, it’s called the “Harvest” Moon!

What Makes The Harvest Moon Different From Other Full Moons?

There are just a little over 12 complete Moon cycles every year, on average. The Harvest Moon isn’t like the other Moons. Usually, throughout the year, the Moon rises an average of about 50 minutes later each day. But near the autumnal equinox, the difference is only 30 minutes. The Full Harvest Moon rises at sunset and then will rise very near sunset for several nights in a row RehabAd_Final_Print.pdf 1 2/21/2017 11:38:56 PM because the difference is at a yearly minimum. It may almost seem as if there are full Moons multiple nights in a row! In 2017, the Harvest Moon will rise on October 5 at 2:40 P.M. EDT.

By Rita M. Reali - Preparations are well underway for the 27th annual Crossville Oktoberfest. This year’s fun-filled festival takes place October 20 and 21 at the Knights of Columbus grounds, at 2892 Hwy. 70 East, three miles from downtown Crossville. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 8152, Crossville Oktoberfest features authentic German-style cuisine, beer and music. It takes place rain or shine, with all activity under cover. The event kicks off with the ceremonial tapping of the keg at 11:30 on Friday morning. “The tapping of the keg is a key element of the festivities,” explained Grand Knight Denny Roy, one of the coordinators of the event. “It’s tradition. Many of our attendees plan to be here right at the start, just to see this.” Billed as the premier German-American festival in the Cumberlands, Crossville Oktoberfest draws thousands of attendees each year from all over Tennessee and neighboring states. Scheduled during the heart of the autumn “leaf-peeping season,” Crossville Oktoberfest has become a favorite destination among visitors, both for day trips as well as for weekend getaways. And with plentiful lodging options in the area – and lots of other activities to enjoy in town – Oktoberfest provides one more reason to come to Crossville. And what authentic German festival would be complete without a mouth-watering spread of food options? The menu for this year’s Oktoberfest includes five different entrees – all prepared on site: pork schnitzel (breaded pork loin), breaded chicken schnitzel and a variety of German-style sausages: smoked bratwurst (a Northern German pork sausage), knackwurst (a favorite Northern German sausage made from ground veal, ground pork and fresh garlic) and weisswurst (a traditional Bavarian sausage made with minced veal and back bacon). Side dishes include sauerkraut, spaetzle (a buttered egg-noodle dish) and red cabbage; and for dessert there will be German chocolate cake and cheesecake. And, naturally, Crossville Oktoberfest features a wide variety of domestic and imported beers… and plenty of peanuts and soft pretzels. For non-beer drinkers, a selection of soft drinks is available, as well. But the food and drink aren’t the only reasons to come to Crossville Oktoberfest. There will also be continuous live music all day, both days of the festival. “We’ve got three great bands coming back this year,” said John Peaslee, another of the event coordinators. “The Bavarian Echo, the Frank Moravcik Band and the Rheingold Band have become fan favorites over the years, and we’re delighted that they’re all going to be joining us again.” Pulling off a two-day event like this takes plenty of planning and coordination. Luckily, the Knights of Columbus get a lot of help in that regard – from their wives, family members and other volunteers who pitch in. “We’ve really been fortunate that we’ve got so many volunteers who step forward, year after year, to make this event such a great success,” Denny said. “We’re in the heart of the ‘Volunteer State’ and we really depend on our teams of volunteers – from our setup and decorating crews to the kitchen staff who cook and serve everything, right down to the folks who direct traffic and handle parking. It’s a real team effort to get the job done – and we appreciate all of our volunteers.” Numerous local sponsors also support the event year after year. “Our sponsors make it possible for us to stage this festival every year,” John said. “They really come through for us. We rely on their support in so many ways – for products, for services, financial support, putting up posters, selling tickets… you name it, they help us out with it.” The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of Catholic men, but you don’t need to be a Knight – or even Catholic – to attend Oktoberfest. “This event is open to the public,” John said. “Everyone’s welcome at Oktoberfest. The more the merrier. The only requirement is that you like food and enjoy a good time. It does help, though, if you can polka – or even do the chicken dance,” he added with a grin. Advance single-day admission tickets ($6) may be purchased from these local businesses: both Cancun Mexican Restaurant locations, Sears of Crossville, Best One Tire & Auto, The Lace Place & Chocolate Emporium, Romo’s Mexican Restaurant, Crossville Heating & Cooling, Physicians’ Associates and Star Realty. Admission at the gate is $7.50. Children under 14 are admitted free. Adult meals are $10 and kids’ meals (hot dog, chips and dessert) are $5. This year, for the first time, credit and debit cards will be accepted on site.

How Were Materials Transported for the Pyramids?

It has long been known that the rock was extracted eight miles away in Tura and that granite used in the monumental structure was quarried 533 miles away in Aswan. However, archaeologists have disagreed over how the material was transported to Giza, now part of modern-day Cairo, for construction of Pharaoh Khufu’s tomb in 2600 BC. Now that mystery could be a step further to being solved after the discovery of an ancient scroll of papyrus, a ceremonial boat and a network of waterways, reported the Mail. FOUND IN EGYPT The 2.5-ton blocks were ferried through a system of specially designed canals before arriving at an inland port built just yards away from the base of the Great Pyramid. The papyrus scroll is the only firsthand record of how the pyramid was built, and was written by an overseer named Merer.

Penny Pinchers Wipe dirty dishes with those used paper napkins you have just cleared from the dining table. Use them to wipe away the leftovers, grease and sauces on those dishes before putting them into the soapy water in the dish tub. For garlic-flavored potato chips, put a peeled garlic clove in a container with chips for several hours. Discard garlic clove before serving chips. Store leftover tomato paste by spooning level tablespoonsful onto a wax paper-lined baking sheet and freeze. Remove the spoonsful from the sheet, place in a plastic bag, and return to the freezer. Use the cubes as needed. Save your frozen food trays and make up your own TV dinners from leftovers. Cover with foil, then label and date. Put in the freezer for emergency service when you don't have time to start from scratch. Toss leftover spaghetti and sauce together in a casserole. Add cubes of sharp cheese and chopped onion, then toss together. This freezes well. When you're ready to serve it, top with grated Parmesan and bake in a 325 degree F oven until bubbly. You can lengthen the life of olive oil by adding a cube of sugar to the bottle. To keep an opened jar of mustard fresh tasting longer, place a thin slice of lemon on top before closing the jar tightly. Prolong the lifespan of greens by wrapping them loosely in a damp paper towel and placing in a resealable plastic bag. This will make them last about four days longer. Buy fruit at its peak at a farmers' market and freeze it in an airtight container so you can enjoy it year round. Don't be afraid to ask the butcher or fishmonger to see the products up close and to smell for freshness. Fish should never smell fishy. Reheat leftover rice by putting it in a sieve over simmering water, and fluff it with a fork when piping hot. Freeze leftover pancakes between pieces of wax paper in a plastic bag. Heat them in the toaster or microwave as needed. To preserve honey longer, store in small plastic freezer containers to prevent sugaring. It also thaws out in a short time. Freshen soggy potato chips quickly by placing in a 375 degree F oven and baking for a few minutes. Watch them carefully and remove before they brown.

The Great Gold Swindle

www.roanereader.com

China is now fixing the price of gold twice a day on the Shanghai Gold Exchange. This creates the very real possibility of an arbitrage between the U.S. Commodities Exchange and the Shanghai Gold Exchange... the results of which could bring the dollar tumbling down. In short, one of the Bob Tonachio triggers I talk about could go off any day. It is critical that you read this article immediately to ensure you're prepared for the coming economic reckoning. You've Been Lied to and Hoodwinked Now, the Greatest Financial Lie Ever Told Could Cost You Everything. Dear Reader, What I have to tell you today is distressing... so troubling, it could disrupt your faith in our entire economic system. There is a secret so devastating and dangerous that once started, it could bring down the world economy in a matter of days… Banks could collapse — even the most powerful "too big to fail" establishments — and most if not all of your wealth could disappear practically overnight. Everything you labored for your whole life could be wiped out in just 5 days! I know you've heard some of this before. The economy is going to collapse, and there will be violent demonstrations in the streets. There is no way to prevent it. The economy is out of control, and the Fed is out of remedies. It is finally time for the U.S. to pay the piper for 40 years of economic mismanagement! And who was the creator of this nightmare situation? I will tell you right now... Too-Big-to-Fail Banks and the Fed! I know you might be tired of hearing what shysters the bankers are, but if you read the book The Big Short by Michael Lewis, You know exactly how far these thieving organizations and the psychopaths in charge of them will go to make money at your expense. They caused the Great Recession by devising insane financial instruments and trading them at 100-to-1 leverage... And now they're playing Russian roulette with the world economy... again! You see, the big banks and the Fed are colluding to keep the gold price suppressed. None of the financial maestros’ want gold to go up in value. If gold reflected the value of the dollar, the world would suddenly realize the dollar is just a worthless piece of paper. The Fed wants to hide the inflation of the money supply, the government wants the public to think we have a recovery, and the banks want to keep your money in "the scheme." Russia and China want to keep the price of gold low, so they can keep increasing their large positions. And now this “scheme” has created a state of affairs… so delicate and tenuous that the slightest disruption could bring the world economy into collapse (in fact, it's already starting to happen). All it would take to destroy the world's present financial system is for 0.18% of the holders of outstanding gold contracts on the Chicago Commodities Exchange

(COMEX) to ask for delivery of their gold. Most contracts on the Commodities Exchange are settled in dollars. As a result, the banks have devised schemes to leverage their actual gold holdings to more and more profits. They deal in "paper gold," which is just a promise to deliver the gold if someone asks for it. Since people rarely do, the banks can sell gold they don't have and pay off the contracts in paper dollars. But what if people started asking for delivery of their gold? If you own a contract for gold, you have the right to ask for the gold. But the banks aren't obligated to deliver any gold. That’s right... they can just tell you "No!" What would happen if more and more people started asking for the gold they contracted for? If one person asks, no problem. But in a world where the U.S. economy is a mess and the confidence in the dollar is slipping, it makes sense that more and more people would want to take delivery of their gold. What will happen to the system when people start realizing that they didn’t actually contract for gold like they thought? What will happen when they realize their commodities contract for gold is as worthless as the paper it was assumed written on? That’s exactly what is bound to happen when the value of the dollar collapses! Later this year or early 2018, the Fed will institute another round of quantitative easing after cutting rates back to 0% and maybe even cutting into negative territory. These moves will shake confidence in the dollar to the core! And when fiat currency is weak, gold is strong. It's been true for all of recorded history. This time will be no different. People will start asking for their gold, and the banks won't have it to deliver. The banks will refuse to deliver the gold and start canceling contracts and paying them off in dollars. So investors will get paper dollars, and they won't be able to buy physical gold at any price! If the banks deliver any gold at all, it will be only to the most well-connected gold contract holders. It will become clear that there is as much as 100X more paper gold than real gold. As the price of real gold adjusts to account for a supply that is a small fraction of existing obligations, the price of gold will shoot through the roof... $5,000/t oz., $7,500/t oz., $10,000/t oz., $20,000/t oz. Bloomberg recently pointed out that a gold standard in China would require an exchange rate at about $65,000/t oz.! That's crazy...But…This is a mathematical certainty, as there isn't enough gold in existence to cover the contracts these deceptive banks have written. Closer Than You Could Imagine The above is just one of three nightmare scenarios that, if triggered, will send gold prices soaring...And will expose how little of the yellow metal is available for delivery to retail investors. Physical gold will be next to impossible to get! Bob Tonachio is CEO of Robert James & Associates. Titus had just finished gradu- the forty-eight poorest nations ate school, and was on the cusp of beginning a lucrative career. He had planned to move to California, where he had been offered a very good job. Instead, he stayed here to help our sister and our nephews. Our sister was struggling with her husband’s death in a debilitating way. At first, Titus thought he could stay around for a year or so, but a year turned into two turned into three turned into seven years. Seven years that he bought groceries, chaperoned field trips, baked birthday cakes, and helped with homework. As our sister got worse with each passing year, Titus continually stepped up. He taught our nephews how to drive…how to shave…how to be good men. And now, with our sister taking a very hard turn for the worse, he has taken custody of our youngest two nephews.

Happy Birthday

He didn’t have to do all that. I should have done more. I was away at seminary for several years. I had my own family to care for. I had a lot of excuses, but, in all honesty, I should have done more for my sister and her boys. My parents and older sister live in another state, but they could have done more. We all could have done more, but Titus did do more. He gave his life…his hopes for a career, a family of his own, and his longtime relationship…to care for our widowed sister and her children.” Jonathan pulled a handkerchief from his pocket, and wiped his eyes. He couldn’t hold back the tears. He nearly choked on them as he said, “How can I stand in this pulpit and condemn my brother when he has done a far better job of following the teachings of Jesus than I have?” The congregation was quiet, as if they were collectively holding their breath, as Jonathan concluded, “I can only go forward from today striving to follow my brother’s example, praying for a greater love.” “Little River” is an ongoing serial which debuted on 6-30-15. New installments will be published every month in The Roane Reader. If you enjoy this serial you can purchase “Little River” Vol. 1 from Amazon in paperback or as a Kindle book for easy reading on your e-reader devices. Rachel Holbrook writes from her home in East Tennessee, where she lives with her husband and six children. She is currently seeking representation for her first novel.

10 Fascinating Facts About Mosquitoes Ah, mosquitoes, the insects that are universally hated the world over. These pesky, disease-carrying pests make a living by sucking the blood out of just about anything that moves, including us. But take a moment to look at things from the mosquito's perspective – it's a pretty interesting life. 1. Mosquitoes Are The Deadliest Animals On Earth. That's right, more deaths are associated with mosquitoes than any other animal on the planet. Mosquitoes may carry any number of deadly diseases, including malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, and encephalitis. Mosquitoes also carry heartworm, which can be lethal to your dog. 2. Only Female Mosquitoes Bite Humans And Animals. Mosquitoes mean nothing personal when they take your blood. Female mosquitoes need protein for their eggs, and must take a blood meal in order to reproduce. Since males don't bear the burden of producing young, they'll avoid you completely and head for the flowers instead. And when not trying to produce eggs, females are happy to stick to nectar, too. 3. Some Mosquitoes Don't Bite Humans, Preferring Other Hosts Like Amphibians Or Birds. Not all mosquito species feed on people. Some mosquitoes specialize on other animals, and are no bother to us at all. Culiseta melanura, for example, bites birds almost exclusively, and rarely bites humans. Another mosquito species, Uranotaenia sapphirina, is known to feed on reptiles and amphibians. 4. Mosquitoes Fly At Speeds Between 1 And 1.5 Miles Per Hour. That might sound fast, but in the insect world, mosquitoes are actually rather slow. If a race were held between all the flying insects, nearly every other contestant would beat the pokey mosquito. Butterflies, locusts, and honey bees would all finish well ahead. 5. A Mosquito's Wings Beat 300-600 Times Per Second. This would explain that irritating buzzing sound you hear just before a mosquito lands on you and bites. 6. All Mosquitoes Require Water To Breed. Some Species Can Breed In Puddles Left After A Rainstorm. Just a few inches of water is all it takes for a female to deposit her eggs. Tiny mosquito larva develop quickly in bird baths, roof gutters, and old tires dumped in vacant lots. If you want to keep mosquitoes under control around your home, you need to be vigilant about dumping any standing water every few days. 7. An Adult Mosquito May Live 5-6 Months. Few probably make it that long, given our tendency to slap them silly when they land on us. But in the right circumstances, an adult mosquito has quite a long life expectancy, as bugs go. 8. Mosquitoes Can Detect Carbon Dioxide From 75 Feet Away. Carbon dioxide, which humans and other animals produce, is the key signal to mosquitoes that a potential blood meal is near. They've developed a keen sensitivity to CO2 in the air. Once a female senses CO2 in the vicinity, she flies back and forth through the CO2 plume until she locates her victim.

Halloween Cat Myths

www.roanereader.com

Pet’s Page

It's Halloween. Every year people start resurrecting cat myths to put the scare into little kids and older adults alike. We cats have tolerated this proliferation of 'myth-information' for many years and we do not like it. I risk 'letting the cat out of the bag,' but I must dispel some illusions.

1) Dogs don’t feel guilt Your pet pooch may get jealous, but researchers found those puppy dog eyes are not a sign of guilt. In fact they are just the way we interpret a dog’s reaction to being scolded. A study in New York found all dogs looked ‘guilty’ after being told off for eating a forbidden treat like a biscuit - and those who were wrongly accused often looked more ‘guilty’ than those who really deserved to be in the dog house. Scientists believe that humans and dogs first became best friends 30,000 years ago and our close bond started in Ice Age Europe when wolves, ancestors of today’s domesticated dogs, were first tamed by the ancient hunter gatherers. Educating the public on spay, neuter, vaccinating, caring for and properly vetting their pet is a great priority.

People come in different sizes, and different personalities. That's because the Lord up above made us different you see. But all is to be kind and true, that's what our Lord wants us to do. Be honest and make your heart and way count for good. This way you know you're doing what you should. Help each other every way you can, reach out to your fellow man. To be as much like our Lord, will help us to be in one accord. Yes people may be different from one another, but when we're saved, we're sisters and brothers.

Gen. 4:1-7, Heb. 9:22, I Pet. 5:8 by: Katie Bailey Randolph

Cain was the first baby to ever be born, and Adam and Eve taught him well. They told him about the blood sacrifice and likely about Heaven and Hell. Then God gave them a second son, and they called his name Abel. It's certain they told him about the Garden of Eden as they broke bread around the table. As they spoke of sin, Cain turned a deaf ear, but to hear more, Abel hung around; And later became a keeper of sheep, but Cain chose to till the ground. One day they brought God a sacrifice... Cain brought the fruit of the ground. But Abel, being a shepherd, brought to the Lord a lamb. God had no respect for Cain's offering, and, Cain was wroth with the Lord. But God said, "If thou doest not well, Sin lieth at the door". Sin crouches also at our heart's door to lure us away from the Lord... But God said, "He that is in us is greater than he that is in the world". Amen!

Words of Wisdom by: Elsie Wyrick Dear tired, confused and worried ones, do you feel all - alone in this world, is Satan telling you there's' no use in asking or believe that God is hearing or even loving you? Well, if you will read Gods' Holy Word, He tells us Satan is a liar and the fathers of it. Jesus Chris proved His love for all of us on the old rugged cross even before we were born! He gave all of us hope and a choice, if we kept His Holy Will we will live with Him forever in Heaven. Now, if we chose Satan and his demon helpers, then we will spend all eternities with him in hell, not having a big loud party with our so-called friends but burning (and not burning up) through all eternities to come. There is no exits in hell! What's your choice? You gotta choose now!!

Time for Butch to Go by: Jerry Lemons

He's had over four years. And what is the result? Tennessee has an overall record of 32 wins and 22 losses that's only 14 wins and 19 loses in the conference. That averages out to 8 wins and 5 losses a season. Pathetic. I for one am sick of "rebuilding Tennessee" and "brick by brick." The simple fact is that Butch Jones is a lousy coach. To quote Paul Finebaum: "Butch doesn't know how to win." Butch Jones is like Johnny Majors: He's accomplished the unbelievable: making Tennessee fans accept mediocrity. Why is it that other coaches, such as Florida's and Georgia's coaches, can turn their programs around in just one year and have really good teams, but Tennessee can't do it. What Tennessee should do is offer the Florida or Vanderbilt coach 3 million dollars to become Tennessee's coach. Then Tennessee might at least compete. There's no doubt about it: It's time for Butch to go. Dump him.

Roane County The Way It Was...

By: Robert Bailey, Roane County Historian

The Woman Who Returned from the Dead

A local story told in Rockwood was the death of Aunt Susan Brown and her return from the dead. As the story goes, it was reported that she had died and arrangements were made in her house with the body placed in her coffin. All of her family and friends gathered for the “sitting up with dead” which was a common practice. Food was prepared to feed the gatherers and the table was spread with food except for cabbage. Aunt Susan was apparently aroused from a deep sleep by the smell of the cabbage cooking on the stove. She came into the kitchen and commented on how good the cabbage smelled. Needless to say all of the gatherers scrambled out the doors and windows. After all of the confusion was settled, Aunt Susan was left to enjoy the cabbage. Since she didn’t need use of the coffin at that time she used it to store seeds and other things for several years. She died in January 1920, many years after her “supposed” death, and was buried in the Post Oak Cemetery. Her obituary that appeared in “The Rockwood Times” confirms this story.

Factual Facts

In 1785, the city of Paris removed bones from cemeteries to ease the overflow of dead people. They took these bones and stacked them in tunnels now known as the Catacombs. You can visit these tunnel attractions and work your way along long corridors, which are stacked with skulls and bones It is estimated that over fifty-four million people died in World War II, which was the bloodiest war in history Arabic numerals were not invented by Arabs, but were invented in India by the Hindus Each year in America there are about 300,000 deaths that can be attributed to obesity The word assassination was invented by William Shakespeare The term "the whole 9 yards" came from WWII fighter pilots in the Pacific. When arming their airplanes on the ground, the .50 caliber machine gunammo belts measured exactly 27 feet, before being loaded into the fuselage. If the pilots fired all their ammo at a target, it got "the whole 9 yards." During a typical human life span, the human heart will beat approximately 2.5 billion times

Who Am I? I was born on the 25th of June 1963 in North London. My father is a Greek Cypriot restaurateur. My mother was an English dancer who died from cancer. My involvement in music began when working as a DJ at clubs and schools. My first found success was after forming a duo in 1981. Our album reached number 1 in the UK. My solo career began during the early 1987. I have sung in a duet with Aretha Franklin. In 1988 I embarked on a world tour. In 1990 I released an album as indication and desire to be taken more seriously as a songwriter. I performed at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992. In 2006 I was arrested for possession of Class C drugs. In 2008, I realized a new track ‘December Song.’ My first solo album is called Faith. I sang on the original Band Aid recording of Do They Know It’s Christmas? I was part of Wham.

Gaylene Royer Frank Royer A 21th Letter to America by: Manuel Ybarra, Jr

America and the World has gotten more and more anti, God, the Word of God, His Laws and Commandments, and His People. Ignorance and disobedience of God’s Laws abounds. Mankind is putting God’s abundant love to the test. Man can’t even follow His command to “love your neighbor (which means everybody).” Instead of love for fellowman, they have hate and murder in their hearts and mind. Some examples are North Korea, Iran, and the Muslim world. Iran wants nukes so they can kill all Israelites and Americans. North Korea wants many nukes so they can wipe-out American cities and the millions of humans there, plus other nations, which in the past have been historical enemies. The self-proclaimed prophet was right in seeking the Living God of his forefather Abraham, but his choice to start the Islam Religion, was wrong, and is a disaster. He was wrong, because, thousands of years earlier, God had already decided the path His Word was to be passed to His Chosen people and the World. It was not to be through Abraham’s first born, Ishmael, son of Hagar, the Egyptian, Sarah’s maid. It was through his second son Isaac, and Isaac’s twin son Jacob, who’s name God changed to Israel. God made covenants with all three, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel. It was to Israel and his seed that God gave, the Holy Land, to own forever. Islam has been disastrous to the world and Islam followers. They have murdered over 200 million people in their misguided belief that their God tells them to kill everybody who does not believe in Allah. Their cruel inhumanity is still displayed daily. Missing, is God’s love. At first Mohammad said, Islam, the Jewish, and Christians, were following the same God. He called the others, “The People Of the Book”(meaning the Word of God). Unfortunately, Islam failed to read and learn God’s Word. If they had done so, they would have found God’s salvation plan for Mankind, was already clearly stated, in the Old and New Testament. And that God had paid “in full” for Man’s sins, by the shedding of Jesus’ (Devine blood) on a rugged cross. Jesus Christ, the Word of God, made flesh by God Almighty, who called Him His only begotten son. SEEK GOD’S ONLY WAY! Email: mybarrajr77@outlook.com
