Letter To Family And Friends Of Girlfriends Talk From Founder and Editor-in Chief

Janice L. Carter Columbus has had a weird winter. I don't think I can ever recall a winter such as this. I won't complain and the reason for the statement in the first place was to say Spring is right around the corner. Beautiful weather and days helps to uplifts spirits. I was reading some of the status post on Facebook and came a cross this one, "I was thinking back to the early 90's. I can remember us being poor and having little or nothing. But we had each other. We shared what little that we had with others. It never stopped us from having fun. What happened to those days? " That is good question. There was a time things were so much simpler. A lot has changed and it seems as if the old days will never return. Although i am guilty of feeding into some the new high technology of the world, I love of old school, old fashion, down to earth things and people. Even our music has changed, but at the end of the day, it still has the same affect. A click of a button can change your entire ambience. It can move you, play on your heartstrings or mellow you out. Good music never gets old and that will never change. February was the month of love…Let's make March the month of music.

Father, husband, son, brother, music producer, leader and team player…meet Eric " ITISWHATITIS" Goshay. He is making a difference in life and the underground music world. The two go hand and hand because both of these things take a real man to accomplish. I have had the honor of working with Mr.Goshay every Sunday evening on The Truth with Liz " Boss Lady" Walton. At this moment we are going to get up close and personal with the man and the power behind 2196 Productionz and the mastermind of "ITOLJAHSO " CD compilation, which was released on February 12, 2012. Yes…the title threw me also but keep reading and find out the concept of "ITOLJAHSO".

M usic is equivalent to em otions you need to feel a certain w ay when you hear it! GT: What is the meaning behind 2196 Productionz? Goshay: Obviously every company needs a name and I wanted something thing I could always be proud of. It could also be universal, corporate or urban/streets. The name actually comes from my grandmother. I kept thinking of different ideas. Different names, somebody told me "name your company behind something your passionate about and that was my grandmother" Maxine Tinselly. She passed away December 21, of 1995. So just the way life has it or how the numbers go, 12, 21 I was able to keep the 2 and the 1. When I wrote it out the 21 looked better and 1996 represented a new year and a beginning of life. So since she died so close to 1996, December 21, of 95, I just chose to use 96. 21 represents her death, 96 represents her new life. GT: What is the meaning behind ITOLJAHSO? Goshay: When I started putting this project together…I love everything I do as far as this music, I’m very passionate about it and initially, you know I wasn't getting the response I thought I should have got. I mean, anybody that knows me, know I do quality work, I put on good shows. I just care and they know that. So when I wasn't get the response I thought I should, I was like man, when its all done I’m gonna be like ITOLJHASO and Cora (my wife) basically said well you need to call it that and she wrote out how the spelling is. I didn't want it to be "I Told You So" and you know how we talk? So that’s where the name came from. GT: What kind of response were you getting? Goshay: Not much, so that’s when I said when the CD comes out, Imma be like an ITOLJHASO! and that’s when it started growing. GT: How long have you been a producer? Goshay: Well, I wear a lot of different hat’s because other than 2196 other than out sourcing with Corporate and Boss Lady or people who do things. I do everything on my own I started like everybody else started with fruity loops and Reese started producing tracks. Hold up let me take that back; I started beat making it a whole other different element. So you got beat making and producing .So I started beat making, its a whole different element, making beats, put it on CD's and started passing around 30 second snippets and letting people hear my work. Where that started and it probably started back in 2007, 2008. GT: So the artist that you are working with are they using the beats that you made or do you still make beats? Goshay: I had a couple of people use a couple beats. Like the show at the breeze I had Pain use a track, and so did Ci Dubb used a track off my production work. Honestly I haven't made a beat since March of 2011. The last track I made was on my website when my website first got launched back in March. Since then I been focusing on the website and promotion of the website. So I haven't done any tracks since that time. GT: What do you look for in an artist? Goshay: Passion, professionalism, drive, quality work, quality music. A lot of people do a lot of things in the city and they need to understand they can actually earn money off of doing this, they don't have to be signed to no label, so when I see an artist that is that hungry and determined doing the same thing on a level that a mainstream artist do on their own, those are the type of people I 6 want to work with.

GT: What were you looking for when you put together "ITOLJHASO"? Goshay: Those Artists! Those particular types of artists. GT: I want to quote you "MUSIC IS EMOTIONAL, YOU NEED TO FEEL A CERTAIN WAY YOU HEAR IT" Goshay: That’s true. GT: So what were the feelings you were experiencing while putting together "ITOLJHASO”? Goshay: It was a lot of emotions. In between the artist that were sending trash in on top of the artist that were sending good work in it was like, if you have a love song and you are listing to it, you should feel like you are in love or you want to be in love. If its gangster song, when you listen to it, you should feel like you can take the whole club. So if you cant feel what the artist is potentially trying to project, then their not doing their job. So each individual on "ITOLJHASO" made me feel their song and what they did to project. GT: Since your wife helped you chose the title, did she have a say in the songs you chose for "ITOLJHASO"? Goshay: Absolutely, of course the ultimate decision would be made by upon myself, I had her listen to every single song and she knows how in particular I am. So she's there doubt the moment wasn't going to happen when she's there when I'm not sleeping, "when I’m coming to bed?" …So I definitely wanted her feedback because she is a lover of music as well. So I definitely wanted her opinion to see what she thought, I needed another ear and she definitely helped out a lot. GT: Once a rapper yourself, then a beat maker, then a producer… what made you not want to rap anymore? Goshay: Age factor, no one wants to see an old rapper, unless you been in the game already and have established yourself. I always felt like I should have money (I’m not a materialist person) I’m a strong person and I always have to be in a position of power. By building my brand 2196, I felt like it would put me in a position where I could help other people. I take my energy and what I learned as an artist and managing someone, then I could put myself in the position to learn something different. GT: If you love something and have a passion for something, should you put an age limit on it? Goshay: yea if you know you don't have it no more, yea you should. You wouldn't want to see an 80-year-old rapper? Yes there should be an age limit. GT: You are very assertive, have you ever lost any artists because of your assertiveness? Goshay: No, I think when they don't know me, they might think a certain way, when they actually get to be around me and see the relax side, I m really a cool laid back person but when it comes to doing this music, its like if you have children or what ever you are passionate about you not going to back and half way do it. If someone say something about your kid you gonna be at them. being on my vision and my drive and what I think I’m Honestly cable of doing I’m honestly not even concern.

GT: So you never lost an artist or friend? Goshay: No I haven t because they know me and where I’m coming from. If it’s something rude, it’s because of reason; I have reason behind what I’m doing. GT: What does success mean to you? Goshay: Being self fulfilled, whatever comfortable for you. It doesn’t necessarily have to be money or goals. Because sometimes you won’t. Knowing you gave you all, your best but sometimes-different avenues, networking, every resource. I did the best I can do rather you are successful as other people may feel it to be or you didn't make it, you still can feel like " You know what I did do what I could and I'm fine with that." I think that is success. GT: What Is the difference between a local and an underground artist? Goshay: A Local rapper sucks, underground rapper is an artist that just haven't broke through yet. A local artist is underneath the underground artists. They just trying to get out there and haven't felt their way yet and are still learning. So then they finally start getting into different venues and building a brand and people know who they are, then you have a buzz, see a local artist in my opinion doesn't have a buzz, an underground artist does have a buzz and that’s my personal opinion. GT: So an underground artist is taken more serious, than a local artist? Goshay: Yes their buzz, their following, the underground artist can actually…it’s such a fine line. An underground artist can actually have such a buzz till this is what they do and a local artist to me takes it as a hobby. Where an underground artist is like " look I’m trying to do this thing" all they need is the right person in their mainstream. GT: So do you have any advice for both local and underground artist? Goshay: I say if you are local and its just a hobby to you and that’s what you want to do, that’s fine, but don't get nobody else involved in your hobby that do take it serious and want to do something bigger than your hobby As far as underground artist definitely surround yourself with the right people that have your same drive and your same vision. You do not need a lot people on your team all you need is a good solid few that understand your vision, and you guys want to help each other get that person to that point, because with out people behind that one particular artist as a team, it's hard, really hard to make it so definitely find people to support you and your brand that are not jealous or envious of you when you start making moves. The more moves you make the more beneficial it is. GT: Where do you plan to take “ITOLJHASO”? Goshay: As good as a compilation it is on an underground level, I 7 want to take "ITOLJHASO" to a national level. Its up to myself and the artists involved in the project to make it the

hottest buzz in the street. Already got a copy and they know the songs. If they don't have a copy they ' ve heard of it. Never seen none of the artist. I want people to know about it because the buzz is so big that Its time to go back to the drawing board and either remove some songs or get some songs remastered and take it to a national level like BET, MTV. VH1 set it up where the artist can actually get paid off of the hard work and the quality of song that we put out there. So I definitely would like to see it at a national level.

I want to sit back and build a company right here in Columbus, Ohio that the artist feel they can call home, so I want them to know there is someone out here that cares and can potentially put people on a national level and still stay at home.

GT: We already know that our local radio station don't support the underground music, but are you still going to approach them with "ITOLJHASO"?

GT: What makes 2196 Productionz stand out from the others? Goshay: Jesus…my God, you know what I'm saying? I say this because a lot people are doing the same thing but everything that I do I pray about, what do I do next and when visions come to me I feel like God knows my dreams and my passion. He know what I want to do and in my sleep and my quite times, He sits back and say " You know what, here is the next thing I think you should do" because everything I put my hands on has been successful. So I credit that to Him giving me that guidance because you can tell some body exactly what you want to do and give them the exact same format and it will come out different. So I think that guidance he has giving me and that winning spirit makes a difference.

Goshay: That’s always a possibility, but I am also a firm believer "What’s going to be, will be" If you create that buzz and working those key songs when it comes down to it you can push the whole project. One every CD there is always one or two songs that really catch people, and if it turns into that, then we'll sit back and have to go to the drawing board again and put those particular artist on a platform to push them to bring more attention to the project and then just like everything else you may not support them. It sounds crazy but I wasn't a big Tupac fan when he came out, but you heard him so much, until I became a fan and start buying his music. So that’s why you have to put good quality work together to make people come to you.

GT: Do you thinks a difference between yourself and other producers out here? Goshay: No, not really, we all pretty much do the same thing.

GT: You have a lot of other qualities about yourself, you are very organized, your promptness are you like this in your personal life?

GT: Not To cause any riff between you and the artist s on " ITOLJHASO", in your own personal opinion, who do you think will be that one to blow first?

Goshay: Yes and I drive people crazy with it too!

Goshay: I really don't know and I'm being sincere, I really don't know because there is something on the compilation for everyone, it really is and that’s up to the public to decide that I like all the songs, I really genuinely do, I like all the artists, so its up to the public to sit back and decide who has the hottest thing. Whatever direction it goes in, that’s what we'll push. Not even trying to dodge your question, everybody has something to offer on each song.

Goshay: No not at all, my people come from broken homes, you know like I was definitely abused as a kid and stuff like that, I have had a lot of different father figures, I have taken from a lot of different guys to create who I am. You can learn a lot from a dummy. So people my mom may have date that treated me a certain way, Do their job, that’s not the type of guy I want to be or that’s the type of man I want to be. So I've take a whole lot of people on top of good and bad experiences in life and If I take something I m going to do for you, If I cant do for you I’m going to tell you that too. That’s the type of integrity and everything comes into play. How many times have you been disappointed because some body didn't do something, If I tell you something I’m gonna do it. Just what some life experience have taught me. Just be fair with people and be right it’s such a clique but treat others the way you want to be treated. I try to live that.

GT: When I heard about the "ITLOJHASO" compilation CD, I was thinking all hip hop of course, I didn't know what to expect but I was very, very impressed with the finished product. It was evenly balanced out with R & B as well. Was that planned or that where your emotions took you at that moment? Goshay: Everything a plan, the music that got submitted, the quality, radio type of joints, something’s had that street element to it. But yet they were songs, I'm just thankful for the artist sending in good quality work. I can have a lot of music to choose from. to have 18 artists from different regions, different music from an east coast feel, to a down south feel, to Midwest, you know whatever man it just came out perfectly.

GT: Were you a military kid?

GT: Is there anything you want people to know about Goshay or 2196 Productions? Goshay: We're definitely a home base company right here in Columbus, Ohio. I’m from Portsmouth, Ohio, that’s where I was born at, I been here since the age of 5. Growing into being a grown man now, passionate about this music stuff. There is an underground company and brand out here that collectively put out quality music. Understand artist dreams and passion, wants to build into that brand where people feel like they don't have to leave the state or go to Atlanta. Everyone feels like they have to go Atlanta.

Marlin 'Pain' Hawthorne: Born to a businessman/music manager and a poet, Pain had success and music overflowing in his veins at an early age. Growing up in Southfield in Columbus, Ohio where sports and music were looked at as the only ways to become successful in life, he excelled on both sides of the fence lettering in football and basketball and later went on to play football at the collegiate level. His love for music and to be an entertainer grew stronger as his skillset got to, and surpassed the industry level. Not a month over 21 years of age, Pain got his first breakthrough on the big stage opening up for Scarface and The Ghetto Boys. With this being his first time ever performing, it was easy to see this was what he wanted to do, with a stage presence that more than just stood out, IT WAS EPIC!!! That's when the business side won him over. With the recent passing of his Aunt Barbara Jane Furman which has sung with heavy hitters such as Donna Fargo, Aretha Franklin, The Ohio Players, and Zapp and Roger just to name a few, Pain has a new found drive. One of the last things she spoke on was how there is no reason that Pain, and her daughter Crystal (his first cousin) shouldn't have already become known internationally with the level of music they put out. Mature and versatile in every aspect of the game, this definitely proves to be true. Now with well over 200 shows under his belt, CEO and co-founder of his label Royalty Records, Pain is focused and driven now more than ever with his fourth solo album "Pains World" well under construction. Pain has performed in countless cities and states opening for acts such as Mike Jones, Bone, Lil Flip, and Scarface to name a few. He is definitely an artist on the rise, proving to be second to none...

Stefani “Qamil” Wright is an R&B/Soul singer, songwriter and published author. Her musical roots run deep as the niece of Norma Jean Wright the former lead vocalist of the popular 70s soul, R&B and disco group Chic. Qamil grew up surrounded by music and believes that her musicality is innate. Her ability to take a simple melody and transform it into a completely written and recorded track within a few hours gives her a special edge in the industry. With a pure voice and a determination for creating music that speaks to the souls of her fans, Qamil is geared to take the R&B/Soul world by storm. Keep your eyes open and your ears tuned. Qamil is definitely an artist to take notice of. Qamil has performed at Vonn Jazz, Suite 143, Double Happiness, Zydeco on High, Club Vissions, Croft Entertainment Complex (The War Room), Arlington Entertainment Complex & Denison University.

TaLoyia “SYMPHANI” Pendergrass (Born September 20,) is an American writer, female hip-hop underground artist and stylist who came about in the hip hop scene from Columbus, Oh. Creating her own style of writing, she has mastered her own sound of “Raw Talent” that is differed from the rest. Always standing outside of the crowd and never being afraid to “Just do it”, Symphani brings you a view of the “New Breed of Female” hiphop artists. Though early in her career, she has already accomplished several rewards such as being featured “In Tha Zone” as an “Spot Light Artist” by the way of Eric Goshay: My2196.com &2196 productions, winning an “Hottest Lyrics” award and being nominated for “Best Female Artist” in late 2010. She is known for single tracks such as “Where They Do That At” and “Symphani’s Symphony”. Now, currently in Houston, Texas working on her first Street Album:“FEMALES HUSTLE TOO” By the way of “Triple H. Ent coming in the late summer of 2012, and being feat on tracks with artist like T.Guy, Young Rico, and also video cameos with artist like Cw The FatMack, T. Guy and Lil her career is getting off to a great start. 12 KeKe,

Ev Jones: Meet a refreshing change to R&B music, Ev Jones. Sure he could stir the souls of people around the world, but this musical stunner has been carefully honing his craft for the past 15 years. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Ev first embraced his musical talents while attending Colonel White High School for the Performing Arts. Since then he has methodically positioned himself to be the next big thing. With a style he refers to as "hip-soul", Ev Jones managed to blend, through his writing, the story telling ability of Slick Rick with the vocal prowess of great R&B legends such as Same Cook. Ev credits his vocal influences to artists such as, Dave Hollister, Gerald Levert, Anthony Hamilton and a host of other soulful greats. Yet, even with those comparisons having been made, Ev has managed to still have a sound all his own. Ev Jones' writing ability is one of the things that have separated him from many other artists. Having pend a Sammy Award winning album (Best R&B Album 2007 Electric Relaxation: The Definition of Hip-Soul Vol. I), there is no doubt that this musical phenom has nurtured his talents well. Lending his vocal and writing versatility to such artists as Seth Marcel and performing with the likes of Tupac Shakur, Method Man, Fat Joe, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, as well as, countless others he is now focused and ready to let the world experience his abilities. In a time where substance seems to be a fading commodity Ev Jones is destined, designed, and determined to shake up the infrastructure with his first solo contribution tentatively entitled "Welcome Back". Ev promises that this album will be "something to remind you of what you've been missing, and make you question why you ever left to begin with". Slated for a spring 2012 release, Welcome Back will be preluded by a mix tape series that will be available for free download. Ladies and Gentlemen introducing...Ev Jones

4020 Boyz: The 4020 Boyz from Columbus, Ohio their stage name comes from the address of a common hangout spot where their music studio was located. The original group was formed in 2007 the group consisted of four members; TazMatic, Creeper, Will Flow and Mr. Ick but was cut down to two members due to the lack of commitment from the other group members. In 2008, Will Flow and Mr. Ick obtained management from a former local artist Jermaine Mitchell and with his help reintroduced the 4020 Boyz to the music scene. In 2010 the Ohio Hip Hop Awards nominated the 4020 Boyz for Best New Group and Best Album (The Book Bag Theory) and 2011 Best Group. Residing on the east side of Columbus, OH the 4020 Boyz met each other around 2007 at a part-time job they were both working. After noticing a common bond of their love for music, Mr. Ick (Albert Munnerlyn) born on May 4, 1984 in Atlanta, GA and Will Flow (Willie Flowers) born on September 18, 1986 in Dayton, OH began working on their future music career. In college Willie Flowers started recording and performing songs, but quickly found out with his first live performance that “rapping” is more than getting on stage, its entertainment. Mr. Ick had never performed previously but quickly became a natural on stage. As a group they have found a way to creatively fuse the sound of Rock, Rap, R& B and even Country music into work. Some of the artist that have influenced the 4020 Boyz are Outkast, 8 Ball & MJG, Andre 3000 and older groups such as The Temptations, The Jackson Five and The Dells. The 4020 Boyz believe that with faith and ambition anything is possible, including them taking over the music industry. Get Ready…Get Busy!

Emmaculate: The true embodiment of a Hip Hop purist, blended with the soul of a musician raised on authentic music is the true definition of the MC called Emmaculate. His vocabulary, cadence, writing skill, knack for description, and ability to tell stories are completely unparalleled. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was given the name N’Gai Scriven. After being influenced musically by his aunts and uncles, and discovering the Soul of Philadelphia and New York radio in its heyday, Emmaculate and others around him could see that music was the driving force behind his undying spirit. Emmaculate (also affectionately known as “E-Mac” by his counterparts) began to study his craft, though he was afraid to expose the details of his love for rapping to those around him because he was afraid he wouldn’t be taken seriously. He kept notebooks hidden behind his bed and in backpacks before he found the courage to share what he had in store for the world. Also known as somewhat of a “class clown” he started writing “Yo Mama” raps that he traded against his classmates on the schoolyard at recess. This is where people started to see his talent and knack for rhyme structure. From there is where he was persuaded to continue his craft. After a drastic rise in crime in Trenton, NJ, his Mother and Stepfather were motivated to search for better surroundings to give the young man a better chance. His Stepfather put in for a job transfer, and was relocated to Toledo, Ohio. Of course, being the new kid in town and the new kid at school with the “accent”, curiosity was raised about his capabilities. After being asked if he could rap, he responded with “yes” and was asked to rhyme at a party. This is where he was discovered by his music mentors Reed Russell, Corey Analog, DJ Keith $ucce$$, and DJ Lightnin Rod and was inducted to The United Soul Brothers. E-mac instantly gained notoriety and separated himself from other MCs in the city. He went on to form the groups “Deftly Diverse” (with A-Sav) and “Sum’n Awful” (DJ Ooso, T-Cup, & Swill Gates). He achieved the most group success with his group “Sum’n Awful”, performing at countless clubs and universities throughout the Midwest. The group opened up for groups such as the Alkaholiks, Xzibit, Keith Murray, The Lost Boyz, Fatlip (of The Pharcyde), Raekwon and Ghostface. Sum’n Awful was signed to a now-defunct independent label, and worked with such acts as Lord Jamar (of Brand Nubian), Dead Prez, and Greg Nice (of Nice n Smooth). But due to bad business dealings the group separated. The details of the group deal prompted Emmaculate to pursue a solo career. Refusing to be signed to anyone else’s roster, E-Mac continued to do shows and promote himself as a solo artist. He then joined long-time friends Sid Deluxx, DJ Mpress, Swill Gates, and Lagik, to become a member of the SoulBeat Music Group, LLC. After receiving critical acclaim Emmaculate was determined to get airplay on mainstream radio to further his career only to get minimal results. His passion grew even stronger which motivated him to start his own radio station Smashmouth FM. Be on the lookout for his long-awaited solo album “Everybody’s Favorite” which will be released in the Spring of 2012 under the SoulBeat Music Group, LLC.

Did You Know? Gordon Parks The Renaissance man

Parks, Gordon (b. 1912), photographer, journalist, essayist, autobiographer, biographer, novelist, poet, film director, screenwriter, and composer. Gordon Parks's first two publications-Flash Photography (1947) and Camera Portraits: The Techniques and Principles of Documentary Portraiture (1948)-while written primarily for the professional photographer, reveal an aesthetic and a social commitment that structures the astonishing diversity of his subsequent work. Embodying his conviction that the photographer must combine technical intelligence, especially in the use of light, with a sensitive response to people, both works are photographic portfolios representing a cross-section of American lives—rural and urban, wealthy and leisured, poor and laboring. Frequently identified as a Renaissance man, given the range of his accomplishments and the variety of media he has used, Parks was also the first African American to work for Life, Vogue, the Office of War Information, and the Farm Security Administration and one of the first African Americans to write, direct, produce, and score a film. While the commercial success of his work suggests he has fulfilled the American dream, recognition of the demoralizing force of racism and and the dignifying force of the poverty

of the struggle against these conditions underlies his entire creative output. Parks grew up on a Kansas farm, where this defining dialectic was formed. As his autobiographical first novel, The Learning Tree (1963), and his subsequent autobiographies demonstrate, here he learned to value his parents' hard work, compassion, integrity, and capacity for hope as well as to fear the brutality and perversity of personal and institutionalized racism. While the young hero of The Learning Tree is tormented by a series of deaths, from natural causes and from racist violence, each of Parks's three autobiographies-A Choice of Weapons (1966), To Smile in Autumn, A Memoir (1979), Voices in the Mirror, An Autobiography (1990)—reviews these boyhood incidents, much as Frederick Douglass returned to his experiences during slavery in his three autobiographies. Parks's autobiographical works record his struggles first to survive and then to succeed in the white world; if he is able to record his relationships with well-known figures of this century, his family relationships always remain paramount. Set in New York City against a backdrop of labor unrest and an emerging socialism, World War I, and the Depression, his nonautobiographical novel, Shannon (1981), is Dickensian in scope. Revealing America to be a racist and classist society, he describes the interdependent lives of Americans from differing racial and class backgrounds. Although European immigrants in Shannon rise to attain enormous wealth, their wealth proves either corrupting or immaterial to their happiness, and although college-educated African American war heroes appear doomed by financial failure and injustice, they die with dignity. Through the interrelation of words and photographs in several other works, Parks continues to reflect on dialectic differences in human life and to contemplate their resolution. Thus powerful blackand-white portraits illuminate essays on African 16 Americans prominent in the 1960s civil rights

Gordon Parks: A Poet and His Camera (1968), In Love (1971), Gordon Parks: Whispers of Intimate Things (1971), and Moments without Proper Names (1975), however, experimentally juxtapose lyrical poems with impressionistic color photographs. Focusing on nature, romantic love, loneliness, beauty, childhood, aging, and death, both the photographic and poetic images suggest a view of life transcending economic and racial oppression. Given their various settings—Europe, Asia, North and South America—as well as their putative apolitical content, these images show Parks seeking a universal language. Yet, the explicit subject of the first section of Moments without Proper Names is the suffering of African Americans. His frequently reprinted poem “Kansas Land” concludes its catalog of pastoral images with an evocation of the violence and fear blacks have endured. In his films—The Learning Tree (1968), Shaft (1971), Shaft's Big Score (1972), The Super Cops (1974), and Leadbelly (1976)—and in his ballet, Martin (1990), Parks integrates his multiple talents, writing the screenplay and/or the score for several of them. These works explore the African American male experience in addition to celebrating the African American ability to prevail—through violence and peaceful resistance, music and love. In the mid1990s Parks was at work on a biography of the earlynineteenth-century British painter J. M. W. Turner, with whom shares an interest in using light to reveal a complex world—one that includes slavery as well as multiple sources of beauty—more clearly. In 1997, to accompany a major traveling retrospective collection, Parks published Half Past Autumn: A Retrospective, a memoir illustrated by hundreds of his photographs.

What are uterine fibroids? Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that originate in the uterus (womb). Although they are composed of the same smooth muscle fibers as the uterine wall (myometrium), they are many times denser than normal myometrium. Uterine fibroids are usually round or semiround in shape. Uterine fibroids are often described based upon their location within the uterus. Subserosal fibroids are located beneath the serosa (the lining membrane on the outside of the organ). These often appear localized on the outside surface of the uterus or may be attached to the outside surface by a pedicle. Submucosal (submucous) fibroids are located inside the uterine cavity beneath the lining of the uterus. Intramural fibroids are located within the muscular wall of the uterus.

What causes uterine fibroids and how common are they? We do not know exactly why women develop these tumors. Genetic abnormalities, alterations in growth factor (proteins formed in the body that direct the rate and extent of cell proliferation) expression, abnormalities in the vascular (blood vessel) system, and tissue response to injury have all been suggested to play a role in the development of fibroids. Family history is a key factor, since there is often a history of fibroids developing in women of the same family. Race also appears to play a role. Women of African descent are two to three times more likely to develop fibroids than women of other races. Women of African ancestry also develop fibroids at a younger age and may have symptoms from fibroids in their 20s, in contrast to Caucasian women with fibroids, in whom symptoms typically occur during the 30s and 40s. Pregnancy and taking oral contraceptives both decrease the likelihood that fibroids will develop. Fibroids have not been observed in girls who have not reached puberty, but adolescent girls may rarely develop fibroids. Other factors that researchers have associated with an increased risk of developing fibroids include having the first menstrual period (menarche) prior to age 10, consumption of alcohol (particularly beer), uterine infections, and elevated blood pressure (hypertension). Estrogen tends to stimulate the growth of fibroids in many cases. During the first trimester of pregnancy, up to 30% of fibroids will enlarge and then shrink after the birth. In general, fibroids tend to shrink after menopause, but postmenopausal hormone therapy may cause symptoms to persist. Overall, these tumors are fairly common and occur in up to 50% of all women. Most of the time, uterine fibroids do not cause symptoms or problems, and a woman with a fibroid is usually unaware of its presence. Â

Double Standards or Double Talk? To a woman her family comes first. She cooks, clean, bathe and works. Still making time out to fulfill her mans needs. A good woman is loyal to the end. She stands tall through sickness, health, death, incarceration, lies and harsh truths. The strength of a woman is undeniable. When a man becomes faced with adversity, he is automatically stressed out, turns to another woman, disappears and becomes physical or mentally abusive. What is most crazy is when his friends are going through something; He will go out of his way to help them. All of a sudden he has the strength of a hundred men. He'll go out of his way to show how loyal he is to them. But A Man Would Say… This is a touchy topic to discuss. A man is not as simple as women seem to think. There are many different layers to a man. The 1st is being a “MAN.” Our strength has to be on duty 24/7/365. The gender carries a lot of weight. Men have the label of breadwinner, protector, provider, disciplinarian, leader …etc. Men (especially black men) are not supposed to show weakness. That is the 1st part of being a man. If nothing else you have to display strength and an immediate ability to respond to adversity without showing any forms of weakness or feelings. Men are taught that talking or even feeling emotions or weakness is a direct violation of “MAN LAW!” Loss of a job, your favorite dog, or even a loved one the man had better remain strong and not look like he has been effected too much. This also goes on in the public eye. A man never wants to seem weak or emotional in front of his peers in the streets. If he does, the ridicule could be life changing. If he discusses these things with his woman it will inevitably end up being used as fuel to degrade the man during an argument or break up! If he seeks professional help the man is considered crazy and weak. So what choices does the man have? How should he deal with problems that he cannot discuss? Well, unfortunately men usually use venture off into nonconventional methods of coping. Sometimes it’s drugs or violence. Sometimes it can be another woman. The other woman is usually not as hard on the man because she is not the actual partner to the man. Women think that all men cheat just to cheat. Not the truth. Sometimes the other woman is a release. Looking weak for a man is even worse in front of his wife or “GIRLFRIEND” or any woman. Men can feel the change in the woman when things may not be going good for him. She won’t come out and say it but the looks or attitude gives away the truth. Whether it’s his job (or lack of) or some other issue the man will seek a release from the stress of the situation. If that’s happens to be the bed of a woman who will listen and not judge or ridicule then that’s the road the man will take. Because it is very hard (especially for black men) in this world mental and physical abuse usually is a result of how the man is being treated by the world. This is sad because usually the victims are the women or people who love the men the most. The difficulties that men face in society cannot be fixed with the response men would like to use. If a man could fight back whenever he is mistreated I think this would lessen the abuse side of this situation. Due to the fact that feeling weak cannot be tolerated it all draws back to his display of dominance. Ex: if the man is catching hell from a asshole boss, or he can’t stay away from the police, or no matter how hard he tries he can’t get ahead there is no outlet to express his feelings of despair the man will take it out on the person closest. The woman at his side may do nothing more than make a statement and send the man past his boiling point. In a lot of instances it’s not actually the woman he is fighting but he’s fighting himself and his stress and society. He is seeing whatever he has been holding inside for soooo long. Many women know this fact and that is why they stay with this type of man. Now if the woman is an ever-yapping ton of nagging then even the calmest man may reach his point and cheat or worse. None of these reasons for abuse are an excuse at all. And to be honest some women have picked animals to be with so the abuse is apart of it! But a man who will help his friend before his woman is either not a REAL MAN or she is not his woman. There is a 2nd gender of man in society now known as “THE 19

TRICK.” This is the man that goes around taking care of all women he comes in contact with. This non-man pays for everything and for a woman who is not solely his own. He is using money to fulfill his weakness and his need to be worshipped by women and his lack of REAL MAN genes. Without even trying to get to know a woman this man will put his best attribute out there st 1 (money) to ensure a victory with the ladies. REAL WOMEN and the women that use “THE TRICK” don’t even consider these non-men to be men at all. So a man who would help a friend or sit on his ass around his REAL WOMAN is similar to “THE TRICK’ and not a man at all. So women know what type of man you have. And F.Y.I. don’t confuse the actions of “THE TRICK” with the actions of the REAL MAN. The trick will pay for and take care of a woman who belongs to everybody or that will leave if another “TRICK” with $5 more than this trick comes along. “THE TRICK” will do anything to keep the woman because he doesn’t have another option except to either pay her more or buy another woman. “THE TRICK” can be bribed with sex in exchange for money to keep the woman. “THE TRICK” will accept abuse from the woman because he wasn’t a man from the beginning so she has no respect for him past his bank account. “THE TRICK” will easily accept not wearing the pants in the relationship because “THE TRICK” feels that the woman is the head of household and his duty is to make her happy no matter what she does. The list goes on and on. Women please know the differences. If you try to treat a REAL MAN like “THE TRICK” things can get real ugly. REAL MEN exists and will not change to suit a woman. These men know they are equal and his woman will feel like a queen. REAL MEN take care of REAL WOMEN!

Holding On By Frank Comer Life brings it's own troubles, so to limit oneself denies them the expectation of fulfillment. There must be a belief in faith that gives promise to the future. Standing firmly on the foundation consisting of trust and/or optimism, one must believe that change will make a present situation or condition better by establishing a prevailing act of allegiances that has the ability to withstand the hardships of life. There is an added belief that the strength of the mind enables a person to meet danger or even adversity. The fortitude that a person exhibits, which in their mind of understanding is a formal request for action as he or she deals with hard times misfortune and even the conquering of fears. One must never accept concessions, but maintain a resistance based on change and bring to surface a conduct that permanently secures a sentiment that leaves you with a strong wish, and a craving for better days.

The Importance of Your Kid's Breakfast Your mornings may be hectic, the alarm may not go off, or the kids may not seem hungry first thing after waking up. Whatever your reasons may be, skipping breakfast puts your kids at a distinct disadvantage. And while you know breakfast is the most important meal of the approximately 40 percent of children day,

don't eat breakfast on a regular basis. Why do kids need breakfast? What are some fast, easy, and healthy foods to serve your family in order to get them ready for a good day? Keep reading to find out. The Morning Necessity Breakfast provides the fuel that is needed by all bodies to start the day. When your child wakes in the morning, his or her tank is empty and it is time to “break the fast” so to speak. Food gives the energy needed to function mentally and physically. Don't believe it? Consider this: Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast before school perform better on their reading and math scores, have longer attention spans, visit the school nurse less frequently, and are better behaved in class. As if improved school performance weren't reason enough to get your kids into eating breakfast, kids who eat a healthy breakfast are better able to get the daily nutrients they need. They are more likely to eat recommended levels of essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium; magnesium; phosphorus; riboflavin; folate; iron; and vitamins A, C, and B12. Breakfast23

Easy, Healthy Options Why aren't your children eating a healthy breakfast each day? If it's because your family is too rushed in the morning or you think you don't have extra time to make them a homemade nutritious meal, it's time to change your thinking. There are plenty of easy, fast, healthy foods to have readily available for your kids to grab and eat on the way. Any food is better than no food for breakfast, but healthy foods give your kids the energy they require to make it until lunch. A great way to knock out breakfast is to handle it the night before by hard-boiling some eggs. Hard-boiled eggs are a great source of protein and are fast and easy in the morning. You can also keep some small yogurt containers in the refrigerator for your kids to grab on the go. And of course, keep whole-grain bread, English muffins, or bagels on hand to toss in the toaster. You can also warm up microwavable oatmeal or let the kids eat cereal bars in the car. Keep whole-grain, low-sugar cereals on hand that kids can eat with low-fat milk or yogurt. And lastly, keep fresh fruit such as apples, bananas, and pears readily available to eat on the go. These are all nutritious options that are easy for moms or even kids to make themselves. Good Start So before rushing out the door tomorrow morning, make sure to give your kids a good start to the day. Fuel them up with a quick, healthy breakfast. They may not thank you, but their stomachs, minds, and teachers will. Healthy eating goes hand in hand with

maintaining a consistent and challenging exercise program. Call or email me today to get started on one of my programs that will get you feeling younger and more energetic than you thought possible. Don't wait – call or email today to get started. Breakfast Protein Parfait Here's a great recipe to make the night before for an easy grab-n-go breakfast straight out of the fridge. It's packed with protein, vitamins and minerals for sustained energy all morning long. And it tastes great too. Servings: 1 Here's what you need... • 1/4 cup Greek Yogurt, plain, fat free • 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese • 1 scoop high quality strawberry or vanilla protein powder • 1/4 cup fresh berries • 1 Tablespoon pecan pieces, toasted 1. In a small bowl use a whisk to combine the yogurt, cottage cheese and protein powder. Mix until well incorporated. 2. Place half of the yogurt mixture into a clear cup, top with the berries and then the remaining yogurt mixture. Top with pecans.
