What’s Happening In The C.O?!

!

!

Lets Talk About Love…

G.T- What are your thoughts about love? A. Love is… loving somebody more than yourself. She came first. She later goes to the hospital with chest pains. I felt so helpless. I was trying to do whatever I could do, but I could do nothing. She was dehydrated. Drinking water solved the issues When you put others first, the love come back in tenfold. You get so much love back that you don’t have to worry about being loved like selfish people do. They chase loving self and they are ultimately miserable

G.T-What is the most romantic thing he/she has ever done? A. She threw me a surprise birthday party back in the day (2003?). I had stopped celebrating my birthday as I thought that we were too old, but she did it anyway. To have all of my old school friends show up was amazing. We’ve had one every year since.

G.T-No relationship is perfect, and people tend to give up on each other quickly. What is that one thing he/she does that you dislike... and how do you work thorough it?

Mr. & Mrs. Lockett G.T- Where did you meet each other? A. I met my wife while getting kick out of the city center mall in 1990. I was wearing my San Antonio Starter jacket and some custom made short that I’ve made to match it. The thing was I wasn’t wearing a T-shirt as I had a lot of Muscles up top and real lean in the legs back then that /I loved to show off and it has just snow a few days before so I wasn’t dress appropriately. I ran into her while being escorted out. I stopped and refuse to leave without the number. They really didn’t want to fight me so they let me get the number

G.T- Who approached whom? A. She approached me as I was approaching her.

G.T- How did you know he/she was the one? A. A million year later when I was in the ER and I was having surgery. She would go home, get the kids ready for school, go to work, get their dinner ready, and come back to the hospital and stay up all night with me as I was more scared than I ever was. She did this for 3 straight days without sleep. I told myself that I was a fool to not marry her. We got married 3 week later.

G.T- How long have you all been together? A. 24 years

A. She is forgetful. But she has MS and that’s what they do. I forget things too. I’m absent minded. I’m not petty and shallow like most people. All humans have bad points. If the good outnumbered the bad then they are a keeper. I know people who have left their partner out of frustration of them having MS. I won’t do that. She didn’t leave me in my time of need and crisis. She carried my weight until I got myself back together

G.T-How important is marriage to you both? A. Very Important. Back in the days I used to be a bitch nigga. Bitch niggas don’t get married. I told her back in 1992 “ if you are here in 4 years, we’ll get married”. Those 4 years came quick. I said it again with the same results. Then I just stopped saying it. My life as married became a million times better. Everything just got easier and the joy and happiness came in tenfold. We try to teach that to others

G.T-If you have blended family (Kids outside the relationship) did it have an affect on the relationship, if so how did you work thorough it? A. I have a daughter from Zanesville that came to be when we were not together. If she rejected her, then she rejects me. It was that’s simple. My wife is not that shallow though. She accepted my daughter with open arms. I just found out 3-4 months ago that I have a daughter by the female that I was messing with just before I met Wendy. She had put my daughter on another dude and DNA ruled him out. I accepted her without doing DNA. She looks like me and my other kids, plus the way that she found out that homeboy wasn’t her daughter was foul. She went to visit him one day in the past year or so and he was like “You ain’t my daughter” and that was that. I don’t do bitch nigga shit. I told her when she was at first pressing for the Dna test “If the DNA say that you aren’t mine, then we’ll just have to adopt you”. Btw we are the neighborhood parents as most kids need them including the ones living with one, but they aren’t there for them.

G.T- If you can share some relationship advice, what would it be? A. This is simple. People need to get over themselves and learn to love another. There will be trials and tribulations in every relationship that will weed the weak, the meek, the boisterous, the obnoxious, the arrogant and the non-committed ones out. This is the part where the victims chime in and start crying and blame their partners for all of their ills, but missed the fact that if they were as lovable as they want people to think, somebody else would have been snatched them up. People are selfish and have no commitment. In other words they are too busy doing me. A selfish person is really a person who was scarred by childhood trauma who tries to mask it by showing an overabundance of love to self. And it is also their child who they teach this behavior too. Our biggest problem in our community is abandonment and a lack of love which in turn makes people selfish I had an elder white lady friend (I purposely bring up color because our community is ravaged in the relationship department) who gave me this advice back in the 1990’s “You know what your generations problem is? You all run at the first sign of trouble. A relationship isn’t easy. It’s the hardest thing to do in life. But if you master it, you will get the greatest reward in life. She is 100% right

Tracy Haynes

! Tracy grew up in Toledo, Ohio in a two-parent home with his two older sisters. Singing since age 2, music was in his blood from the beginning, listening to his father perform with his gospel group, R&B Singer, Songwriter, Producer – “Tracy Haynes” aka “The Rarebreed,” inherited his musical genius from his father who was a gospel singer. Picking up where his father left off, Tracy helped create the gospel group, True Faith, at age 14. The five-part harmony were demanded by, and performed at, several churches in the Midwest region. The ensemble of seven enjoyed local success, performing throughout Toledo and the surrounding areas, while receiving radio play from the only urban station in the market. Black Rose

! Many artists struggle to identify their musical sound, laboriously trying on different musical styles, looking to see what fits. Then there are others who emerge fully formed, in full command of their craft, their identity and their music. BlackRose fits firmly in the latter category. His voice and stage presence are both captivating and moving, which heralds the arrival of a significant and gifted new talent, one whose music feels familiar, while striking out on its own territory and telling his story. "There are many ways to describe me, but artistic fits best, says BlackRose. Born on a December day, in Harlem NY, Roosevelt Taylor discovered his soulful voice at the age of 9. Accompanied by his cousin, they sang a doo-wop style of R&B, which helped to expand his technique. In his early teenage years he sang for Brandies High School and his church choir and he knew he wanted the world to hear him. Despite all of the curve balls life threw, they did not deter him from his dream. He turned his full focus towards his two loves, being an R&B crooner and a painter and with the help of his supporters and fans, BlackRose continues to pursue his career and fulfill his destiny. His nominations in 2012 for Best New Male R&B /Pop Artist for the Underground Music Awards and the Allstar Music Awards are a testament to his diligence paying off. DAY-LOVELL

!

! Day-Lovell began singing at the age of five initiating his quest for stardom. He was raised in church where he received exposure to his spiritual and soulful sound. Day-Lovell spent hours listening to many vocal icons like Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Donnie Hathaway, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Ross, and Tina Turner. He did not limit himself but included gospel artists Daryl Coley, John P. Kee, Take 6, The Clark Sisters, The Pace Sisters, Kim Burrell and many more. Every one of these vocalists has influenced Day-Lovell in developing his own unique sound. At age twelve he had his debut with national recording choirs and artists not only in studios but participating in live performances. Deciding to go solo Day-Lovell captured a first place win in the B.E.T. Black Expo as well as other local talent shows. His participation in Churches, banquets, wedding, funerals, stage productions, family reunions etc. presented an avenue for his popularity. Forming a group named “GIFTED” opened the door to many local performances that advanced to the Apollo Theater in NYC. When Day-Lovell linked his talent with a local band, invitations poured in from other cities and created a venue for Day-Lovell to become acquainted with well known artists like Selena Johnson, Eric Roberson, Pru, Ruff Endz, Gerald Levert, Dwelle, Kiesha Cole, Plies, Ray J and others. This exposure led to an appearance on the MTV show entitled “Making the Band 4” with P. Diddy. Increasing his diversity Day-Lovell entered into modeling and worked with the well known painter Kehinde Wiley whose work appears in books, magazines and many art museums throughout the country. Day-Lovell was featured by Kehinde in The Other Newspaper, The Alive, The Columbus Dispatch, The Call & Post and CNN News.

GT-Do you write your own music and if so where do you get your inspiration?

D.L- I do write my own music, I get majority of my inspiration from personal life experiences. GT- When did you realize singing was what you wanted to do? D.L- I realize singing is what I wanted to do at the age 7 when I woke up and the first thing that came to mind was singing and music. At that moment I knew what I wanted to be. Been fighting and hustling from that very moment to be the BEST I can be! GT- Do you ever get nervous? D.L-Lol... Do I ever get nervous? YES... But soon as I get on stage an open up my mouth it's like I go to another place. I forget all about the nervousness an immediately get in artist/performance mode. GT- Do you remember your first bad show? D.L -Well funny you asked!!! My first Bad show was in high school. I had to perform in front of the entire school. It was like the movie "Sister Act 2". The music played like approximately 5 times and for some reason I just couldn't get the words out!!!! Definitely embarrassing, But finally I was able to get through it and it turned out to be a really great show. But it was something that I nor my entire school will ever forget! GT- Do you remember your first good show? D.L-My first good show was in high school as well! I had to redeem myself. I had formed a group at this time name "GIFTED" which I was the lead singer! After we blazed another school performance we also made it to the Apollo in NYC! GT- What was the craziest thing a fan has done to you or for you?

Day-Lovell’s current work includes his CD entitled “Keep On Talking Bout Me” which he wrote, arranged, helped to produce and was the talent voice for all of the background vocals. This is certainly not the last project for Day-Lovell.

D.LThe craziest thing a fan has done to me was investigating me to the point they found out where I worked. At that time I was working at K.B. Toy Store in the City Center in Columbus Ohio. She came in my store screaming hysterical stating it's him, it's him! Ran to me while I was working and begged me to sing for her!! It's was quite creepy but funny at the same time!!!

Ready or not here he comes! -- A new sound of R&B.

GT- What is the most romantic thing you have ever did for that special person?

GT- How long have you been singing? D.L- I have been singing since the age of five.

D.L- I'm a sucka for Love and Romance!! The most romantic rememberable moment is really hard! Let's see if I was to pick I would say

when I was first learning how to be a MAN and be romantic because I was trying too hard because I didn't have any practice! It was on Valentine's Day me and my girlfriend at the time was on the verge of breaking up! So I came to her job with a bouquet of balloons and flowers. Also with chocolates and a teddy bear. When she seen me her eyes got as big as golf balls and I can see her face turning red with excitement well as embarrassment! When I proceeded to approach her I started singing Boys To Men "End of the Road". Her entire job started clapping and cheering!!! Quite impressive and romantic for a young guy!!! Lol... Maybe I'm a NATURAL... I don't know just saying!!! GT- For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words: A. Soulful B. Jazzy C. Inspirational D.Versatile and soothing tone E. Heavenly GT- What is your motto or the advice you live by? My motto that I live by is; D.L-People come into your life for two reasons and two reasons only. That is to solve a problem or to create one! How I determine the difference is when I meet someone I ask myself five questions. With those five questions I will be able to place the individual in my life with wisdom. Because everybody plays a part rather good or bad. 1. What does this person have me THINKING? 2. What does this person have me SAYING? 3. What does this person have me DOING? 4. What does this person have me BECOMING. 5. Where does this person have me GOING? With these five questions I can determine who people are, well as how to position them in my life with wisdom!! GT- Anything you want your fans to know about you? D.L- What I want my fans to know about me... Is I WILL NEVER STOP!! Even if it looks like I'm losing I'm still winning because I LOVE what I DO!! And this is what I was created to do. When you find out who you are and love and expect what you do! You are no longer LIVING but EXISTING!! That is success not MONEY and FAME.

Health What Is Sickle Cell Anemia? Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disease of the red blood cells (RBCs). Normally RBCs are shaped like a disk. This gives them the flexibility to travel through even the smallest blood vessels. However, in people with sickle cell, the RBCs have an abnormal crescent shape. This makes them sticky and rigid. They can get trapped in small vessels and block blood from reaching different parts of the body. This can cause pain and tissue damage. Sickle cell anemia is an autosomal recessive condition. You need two copies of the gene to have the disease. If you have only one copy of the gene, you are said to have sickle cell trait. Sickle cell trait explains the geographic distribution of sickle cell disease. It makes you more likely to survive a malaria infection. That’s why sickle cell is more common in areas that have, or had, a high prevalence of malaria. What Are the Types of Sickle Cell Disease? Hemoglobin is the protein in RBCs that carries oxygen. It is made up of two alpha chains and two beta chains. These are made by the alpha and beta genes. The four main types of sickle cell anemia are caused by different mutations in these genes. Hemoglobin SS Disease Hemoglobin SS disease is the most common type of sickle cell disease. It occurs when you inherit copies of the hemoglobin S gene from both parents. This forms hemoglobin known as Hb SS. Hemoglobin SC Disease Hemoglobin SC disease is the second most common type of sickle cell disease. It occurs when you inherit the Hb C gene from one parent and the Hb S gene from the other. Individuals with Hb SC have similar symptoms to individuals with Hb SS. However, the anemia is less severe. Hemoglobin SB+ (Beta) Thalassemia Hemoglobin SB+ (Beta) thalassemia affects beta globin gene production. The size of the red blood cell is reduced because less beta protein is made. If inherited with the Hb S gene, you will have Hemoglobin S Beta thalassemia. Beta-Zero Thalassemia Beta-Zero thalassemia is the second type of beta thalassemia. It has similar symptoms to Hb SS anemia. However, sometimes the symptoms of betazero thalassemia are more severe. It is associated with a poorer prognosis. People who only inherit a mutated gene from only one parent are said to have sickle cell trait. Children are only at risk for sickle cell if both parents carry sickle cell trait. People from regions that have endemic malaria are more likely to be carriers. This includes people from Africa, India, the Mediterranean, and Saudi Arabia. Symptoms of sickle cell anemia usually show up at a young age. They may appear in babies as early as 4 months old. Anemia

Anemia is a shortage of RBCs. Sickle cells are easily broken. This breaking apart of RBCs is called chronic hemolysis. RBCs generally live for about 120 days. Sickle cells live for a maximum of 10 to 20 days. Hand-foot syndrome Hand-Foot Syndrome occurs when sickle-shaped RBCs block blood vessels in the hands or feet. This causes the hands and feet to swell. It can also cause leg ulcers. Swollen hands and feet are often the first sign of sickle cell anemia in babies. Splenic Sequestration Splenic sequestration is a blockage of the splenic vessels by sickle cells. It causes acute, painful enlargement of the spleen. Delayed Growth Delayed growth often occurs in people with sickle cell anemia. Children are generally shorter but regain their height by adulthood. Sexual maturation may also be delayed. This happens because sickle cell RBCs can’t supply enough oxygen and nutrients. Symptoms of sickle cell anemia usually show up at a young age. They may appear in babies as early as 4 months old. What Complications Can Arise from Sickle Cell Anemia? Sickle cell anemia can cause severe complications. These complications appear when the sickle cells block vessels in different areas of the body. Painful or damaging blockages are called sickle cell crises. Delayed growth Neurological complications include fits, bleeding in the brain, or even coma. They are caused by brain blockages. Immediate treatment should be sought. Blindness Blindness is caused by blockages in the vessels supplying the eyes. This can damage the retina. Skin Ulcers Skin ulcers in the legs can occur if small vessels there are blocked. Priapism Priapism is a lingering, painful erection that can be seen in some men with sickle cell. This happens when the blood vessels in the penis are blocked. If untreated, it can lead to impotence. Priapism can be treated using? -adrenergic blocking drugs, analgesia, and hydration. Gallstones Gallstones are one complication not caused by a vessel blockage. Instead, they are caused by the break down of RBCs. A byproduct of this breakdown is bilirubin. High levels of bilirubin can lead to gallstones. These are also called pigment stones. Sickle cell anemia can cause severe complications. These complications appear when the sickle cells block vessels in different areas of the body. Painful or damaging blockages are called sickle cell crises. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Detailed Patient History This condition often first appears as acute pain in the hands and feet. Patients may also have: severe pain in the bones anemia painful enlargement of the spleen growth problems respiratory infections ulcers of the legs heart problems Hb electrophoresis is always needed to confirm the diagnosis of sickle cell. It measures the different types of hemoglobin in the blood. How Is Sickle Cell Anemia Treated? A number of different treatments are available for sickle cell anemia. Antibiotics like penicillin may be given from 2 months of age to 5 years. They help prevent pneumonia in sickle cell patients. Pain medication is used to relieve the pain during a sickle crisis. You may need over-the-counter drugs or strong prescription pain medication like morphine. Hydroxyurea (Droxia, Hydrea) helps to increase production of fetal hemoglobin. It may reduce the number of blood transfusions. Immunizations can help prevent infections. Patients tend to have lower immunity. Surgery may be used to treat persistent painful erections. Bone marrow transplant has been used to treat sickle cell anemia. Children younger than 16 years of age who have severe complications and have a matching donor are the best candidates. Supplemental oxygen is given through a mask. It makes breathing easier and improves oxygen levels in the blood. Home Care There are things you can do at home to help your sickle cell symptoms. Heating pads and relaxation may help you deal with pain. Daily supplementation of folic acid and a healthy diet can help you make new RBCs. Fruits, vegetables, and whole-wheat grains are important. Increased water drinking can reduce chances of a sickle cell crisis. Avoiding extreme temperatures can also reduce the chance of a crisis. Exercising regularly

and reducing stress may help as well. Support groups can help you deal with this condition. Learn all you can about the disease. What Are the Long-Term Outcomes of Sickle Cell Disease? The prognosis of the disease varies. Some patients have frequent and painful sickle cell crises. Others only rarely have attacks. Recent treatment advances have prolonged and improved the quality of life for sickle cell patients. According to statistics published by the University of Maryland Medical Center, the average life span for people with sickle cell anemia has risen from 14 years to 50 years since 1973. Women have a higher average life span than men. How Can Sickle Cell Anemia be Prevented? Sickle cell anemia is an inherited disease. If you are worried that you might be a carrier, talk to a genetic counselor. This can help you understand possible treatments, preventive measures, and reproductive options.

Outlook Sickle cell anemia has no widely available cure. However, treatments to improve the anemia and lower complications can help with the symptoms and complications of the disease in both children and adults. Blood and marrow stem cell transplants may offer a cure for a small number of people. Over the past 100 years, doctors have learned a great deal about sickle cell anemia. They know its causes, how it affects the body, and how to treat many of its complications. Sickle cell anemia varies from person to person. Some people who have the disease have chronic (long-term) pain or fatigue (tiredness). However, with proper care and treatment, many people who have the disease can have improved quality of life and reasonable health much of the time. Because of improved treatments and care, people who have sickle cell anemia are now living into their forties or fifties, or longer.

! Otis Winston was a Ohio State University star athlete who played basketball player and ran track. After college he went own to become a computer consultant and a high school track coach here in Columbus, Ohio. Wintston was always determined to fulfill his dream of becoming an actor.

Otis Winston

Winston started pursuing acting full-time in 2009. Although it wasn't easy Wintons endure one hurdle after another. From struggling, to losing his job and his home, he believed he was still on the right path of his journey. Winston’s big break came when he made his big screen debut as a "Winkie ", (The role involved marching as a part of a platoon of characters called the Winkie, a group of soldiers all over 6-foot-fourinches tall.) in “Oz the Great and Powerful.” which was a box office blockbuster, He landed a few commercials as well such as a Sprite commercial where he stood in for Lebron James in a. Most recently Winston had a guest-starring role on BET’s “The Game“, Think Like a Man Too (2014) and BET Awards 2013 (2013). has landed several commercials even one where he stood in for Lebron James in a Sprite commercial.

Otis Winston I actually live in L.A. as well as Columbus. I auditioned here. I came home to start filming my high school drama. We filmed a teaser two months ago and i went out to L.A. to pitch it. I pitched it to the likes of B.E.T, WB and a couple of different people. A couple of people loved it so I came back home and started holding castings because I'm going to start filming the first three episodes here. He had casting at Gahanna Lincoln High School and we had 130 people show up. We narrowed it down to an invite only for the callbacks and after that we started filming this past December at Fort Hayes high school. This is a high school drama that I created based on things I experienced, I think there is a lot of stuff that these high school kids are going through and experiencing that we need to talk about. There is nothing like that on T.V right now, besides Glee and Amingo so I wanted to bring something different to the market and this was it. GT: Different like what? OW Different like "White Shadow" like meets "Remember The Titans" meets "Boston Republic". And when I say different, there is nothing like that on television right now. "Friday Night Lights" are gone… "Boston Republic" is gone... GT: So are you aware of the suicide rate with high school students? OW: I am aware of that, plus I am a high school coach at New Albany High School. One of my kids, an athlete, committed suicide this year. So I've lost three kids to death in the past two years. So I wanted to do something different, I wanted to do something where parents could become relatable to what the kids actually experience in school. It is rough out here, and I wanted the kids to be able to see something on television and say "you know what, I can relate to that." So I'm bringing realness to the television and I'm pitching it to HBO and Showtime because I don't want it to be watered down. I want everyone to see what high school is in its raw, gut, dirty images that is really going on.

GT: So if the project is successful will you start some type of program for these children? OW: Well what i want to do first is give back by raising awareness. Then I have people on set that are consultants. We will have counseling sessions creating outlets for our Columbus children to be seen out of L.A. We are giving them things to do to creative outlets instead of going home and sitting in front of the television. They will be able to come and see a different type of art and express what is going on. GT: So did this whole concept come from being a teacher or a product of the situation? OW: It came from both. All my ideas came from what I experienced. I just filmed a comedy as well called CoParents. We just pitched and attached ourselves to Kevin Hart and Hart Productions. He just inked a deal with ABC to do something based off his life and Co-Parents came about three years ago after my divorce. It's so much I'm trying to do and I'm trying to do it all here because I think Columbus is untapped. I don't want people to experience what I experienced. I have to go to L.A. and audition. Why do I have to go across the country and audition when I can just do my own stuff here?!

Reader Question... Dear Nikki, I have kind of a silly question but I always wanted to know why sex has that different smell afterwards. I'd like to remain anonymous please. Thank you Nikki! My Answer... Hello there Anonymous, First of all, there are NO silly questions when it comes to sex. The only thing that's silly is having a question about sex but not doing what's necessary to get that question answered. The more you know about sex, the better, so I am glad that you asked me your question. Our vaginal secretions and his semen both have their own distinct scents. When our secretions come together, there is a chemical reaction that causes them to produce a completely different scent as well. The smell of our sweat and pheromones can also come into play, all of which should produce a pleasant scent. Due to the heat produced during a hot sex session, that smell is escalated and can become quite pungent especially if you're in an enclosed room. The smells you two produce together will also change during the month as you move through different stages of your cycle but still again, the smell should be a pleasant one. Many people love the smell of sex, myself included! If the smell of sex isn't a pleasant one then one of the partners may need to check their diet and implement healthier habits to produce sweeter smelling sexual secretions. If the smell is really bad or funky, there may be a medical issue that needs to be addressed. Thank you so much for your question. If you have a sex question, feel free to send it to me and yes, you can remain anonymous. Chances are that your question is the same one that hundreds of others have too! Happy Lovin' everyone,

Nikki

Greetings! This is Certified Life, Relationship, and Sex Coach Nikki Ransom and I hope you are ready for this life-changing seminar! It is time that WE, as black women, find, embody, and exhibit more love towards OURSELVES, EACH OTHER, and OUR MEN. This revolutionary seminar is going to be broken down into 3 major sections: How to Love Ourselves More, How to Love Each Other More, and How to Love Our Men More. Here are a few bullet points of our current state: Many of us are living off of the system and settling for a mediocre life In 2010, our net worth was ONLY $5.00...our counterparts was over $40Gs. What are we doing?! We are giving our love and bodies away too easily looking to feel that void We suffer from low self-esteem and many do not even realize it We are looking to outside sources like men, sex, drugs, etc. for happiness and validation We are jealous and "hating" on each other for no reason AT ALL We are fighting each other over men (and the man is usually a piece of sh*t!) Some of our black men have totally given up on us due to our negative behavior and ohhhh no, don't place all of the blame on them...it's us too. Some of us are literally "chasing" our men away but have no clue why We are in the middle of an epidemic crisis of women suffering from the "Bad Boy Syndrome" and ignoring our good men...I will tell you why We are not even taking the time to understand our black men, their basic needs, and what they really need from us and dare I say it...some of us are even abusing the child support system...oh yes, I said it. I will hit that topic too as well as coparenting with our men These are just a few examples but we will touch on all sorts of issues that we go through as black women and what we can and need to do to overcome them and start living in our greatness. It's time to step into your true grown woman-ness. Many of us are not operating at the levels we are meant to be. We have forgotten our power as black women and that when WE move and make the changes we need to make, so will everything else. We can cause a major change, a revolution even, in the black community on how we are treating ourselves, our sisters, and our brothers. THE ANSWER AND THE POWER LIES WITH NO ONE ELSE BUT US! Be sure to join us for this free seminar if you would like to learn: • The importance of self-esteem, knowing your self-worth and how to increase yours • How you can change your negative viewpoints on females, having female friends, and why it is essential to the black community that we begin behaving more positively towards each other • What you can do to help mend the broken relationships between black men and women • What you need to do if you're seeking to prepare for, find, and keep a lasting, loving relationship with a black man. • And more. This is an 18+ seminar and adult language will be used as well as discussing some very adult topics. Refreshments will also be provided. We are to going to get REAL in this seminar and sharing will be welcomed and encouraged. Register for you and your friends because this seminar will be LIFE CHANGING.

Don't believe these 5 myths [fitness] You can't believe everything that you hear when it comes to fitness. Not if you want to see results. There are 5 bogus rumors going around about strength training that will derail your results if you let them. The truth is that strength training is one of the absolute best things you can do for your health and appearance. And if you've fallen for these 5 myths then you're missing out on tremendous potential results. Myth #1 Muscle Turns Into Fat Why would anyone want to build muscle if it could morph into fat after a span of disuse? Rest assured that this is a myth of the highest order. Muscle tissue is muscle tissue. Fat tissue is fat tissue. One will never become the other. Myth #2 Strength Training Doesn't Burn Fat On the contrary, muscle mass is your number one ally against fat gains. A pound of muscle burns 10-20 calories each day, while you're just living and breathing. Regular strength training helps you increase your muscle mass as well as preserve existing muscle mass, turning you into a fat burning machine. Myth #3 Lifting Weights Makes Women Bulk Up Yes, strength training increases the amount of muscle on your body; so many women take this to mean that their body will become body-builder-esque, which is quite the look you're going for. The truth is that the female body simply doesn't contain high enough levels of testosterone to produce that level of results without a very focused and dedicated effort. The tighter, toned figure of a recreational female weight lifter is every bit feminine. Myth #4 Strength Training Is For Young People Only Ha, that's a used-up excuse that senior citizens across the globe have shattered. Assuming that your doctor has given you the OK, you have much to gain from a regular weight lifting routine. Improved balance and coordination, better strength and flexibility, and a decreased risk of osteoporosis are just the beginning. Myth #5 Use Light Weight and High Reps To Tone This myth, popularized in the 90's, that very high repetitions of very light weights would result in a toned physique, has become outdated. These high repetitions will increase your muscular endurance but will not add strength or tone. We now know that in order to truly challenge your muscles, heavier weights with lower repetitions are a must. Start with an 8-10 repetition range and push your muscles with each set. Including strength training as a part of your fitness routine is essential for achieving a fit and toned body. My custom-made fitness programs remove all of the guesswork for you. I know what works, and I make it my mission to see you reach your goals. Call or email today and we'll get you started on the program that's best for you.

February 2014 horoscope

Aries Horoscope (March 21-April 20): You will revisit previous ideas on how you want to be recognized in the world and you will find them failing in enthusiasm. This is good. Go home and think new things now. Find someone who listens well and talk about art, culture, and beauty. Find Roerich paintings on the Web or in bookstores. You need new music, too. And a long-awaited field trip to parts unknown. Invite another.

Libra Horoscope (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Social aspects, talking a lot, surrounding yourself with people, plans, and activities, all for fun and pleasantry occupies your waking hours. You might discover, in this social milieu, that people actually love you. Hopefully both you and they will communicate this reality. Imagination doesn't talk so you'll have to. It's a good time to peruse art objects and/or things you find beautiful. Keep receipts.

Taurus Horoscope (April 21-May 21): Not only will you encounter past lovers on a sidewalk somewhere (have you yet?) but other, more subtle things will occur that stimulate the more passionate side of you and provide existing love relations with a greater intensity (intimacy, which doesn't always include sex). Money is an attractive issue along with other, till now, unearthed psychological issues. The phoenix is burning.

Scorpio Horoscope (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): The eclipse finds you balancing all sorts of values -- even some you don't know about. Let's concentrate on you now. There's a great need to ask yourself what nurtures you. What values give you sustenance and embrace your quality of life for the present and for the future? This is the core of the eclipse and before change occurs you'd best ponder these questions and find answers. That's enough for now. Later it's you and others.

Gemini Horoscope (May 23-June 20): Past work issues proliferate and shadowy encounters occur reflecting previous behaviors with coworkers. Enemies could come a'haunting prior to Halloween. You'll have to try and create a balance here between past and present, and present and future. Three points of a triangle. One point is the neutralizer. Which is it and how do you create Right Human Relations? You'll want to know this because you want peace. Peace is a byproduct. Cancer Horoscope (June 21-July 20): The only thing you can do with Venus now is work hard on making your work environment a place of color, light, and beauty. Relationships may confront you, difficulties may mishandle you, and problems may arise unclearly. You can handle all of this through discussion, good health, and being excessively practical. Nothing's romantic. Everything's work.

Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov. 22-Dec. 20): You will express yourself with greater ease and willingness. This is because you aspire to relate to others in a way that they recognize your warmth, enthusiasm and love. You will do whatever it takes so controversy doesn't occur. Making peace with others will be your main focus. Remember peace is an outcome of Right Human Relations. And Right Human Relations is an outcome of intentional Goodwill. Think on this. Capricorn Horoscope (Dec. 21-Jan. 20): Once again check your finances, create a budget with your partner, maintain the savings account, and exchange ideas concerning the best way to use (and not misuse) the resource called money. You may have to reorient all previous financial dealings. This can be done by creating a Plan for the future. It's a vehicle. Mercury can help.

Leo Horoscope (July 21-Aug. 22): You might not have any self-discipline, fun you will seek everywhere, the air around you is filled with light molecules, and children think you've come from heaven. Nothing attracts you unless it's creative and art will be found everywhere. This is an extremely unusual time with Venus hovering above you like the Soul star. Nothing about you will surrender. And it shouldn't. Can we meet in a museum somewhere with Calder's mobiles suspended as if in flight?

Aquarius Horoscope (Jan. 21-Feb. 18): Something undercover is coming up for air. It may feel hard, but in the end it will provide you with more personal freedom. You'll be working hard to create new endeavors both professionally and socially. New friends are about to knock on your door and should food be an issue, choose eating and not fasting. Orange foods are appropriate as is wearing that color, too. Friendship rules.

Virgo Horoscope (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): As the days unfold you will feel more and more peaceful. Quiet minutes, hours, and days will ease previous month's stresses. You may enjoy this time alone or with intimates. You won't assert yourself, won't go out much, and others may think you've become internal, withdrawn and shy. Elegance plays a part here, too, as you consider how your home looks from that sophisticated lens. Sensitivity makes you wear midnight blue.

Pisces Horoscope (Feb. 18-March 20): Absorbing great qualities of information will expand your already absorbable mind and should the study prove difficult at first, later it will be easier than you expected. View life with a big picture mentality, and all the parts and pieces will fall into place. Professionally you will broaden into new endeavors. Listen to no one who says, "No." Only you know what's best.
