Hello everyone and welcome to the Domain for our first WaiBOP Premiership match of the season. Why is it the first game? Long story... ...which I won’t bore you with too much here. Suffice to say, if you take a wander across the surface you’ll have a pretty good idea why. We’ve packed quite a bit into our first few games. The usual quota of injuries haven’t helped, and they’ve led to a couple of sizeable defeats. But the boys bounced back well both times and, if you throw in the cup win a couple of weeks ago, along with last Saturday’s performance down in Taupo, it would be fair to say we’re heading in the right direction. Our Challenge Matamata Swifts Ladies team have been heading in the right direction pretty much from the first kick of the season. They haven’t conceded a goal in their opening games and are sitting in a great spot in Waikato Division 1. Long may this run continue. Welcome to Huntly Thistle and Northern United for this weekend’s games. Unfortunately we can’t offer you a pristine playing surface...but we can offer a couple of competitive games of football and some solid hospitality after the games. It’s a big weekend for the club, with lots of football on offer. Waharoa Transport Swifts Reserves played under the lights at Gower Park last night and our Fez Kebab Swifts 3rds are off to Waihi for an early afternoon kick-off on Saturday. Our junior teams play their first games on Saturday morning, at Pohlen Park and various other venues across the Waikato, as do our community’s youth teams at Matamata College. Enjoy the games this weekend, whereever you choose to take your football fix. I’ll see you on the sideline (assuming I make it back from my junior team’s game in Hamilton in time).
