SilverSounds Northwest Winter Auditions for Senior Chorus September Auditions by appointment.

Rehearsals begin on September 10, and are every Tuesday, 1–3pm at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.

Membership in SilverSounds is open to both beginning and experienced adult singers of all ages who are available during the daytime for rehearsals and performances. SilverSounds is a group of mostly retired folks from around South King County who believe that “You are never too old to rock and roll!” Directed by Paula Hawkins, the group performs regularly around the community. B-Town DOG (Dog Owners Group) are busy raising funds and helping the City of Burien develop a portion of Lakeview Park for the new off-leash dog park. Plans include developing areas for both small and large dogs.

TOPSoccer The Outreach Program for Soccer (TOPSoccer) is a community-based soccer program for boys and girls and men and women, aged 4 years and older, who have a cognitive and/or physical disability. Preschool Dance Pre Ballet Calling all little ballerinas. Learn ballet through creative movement and games to classical music.

Students will learn rhythm, flexibility, ballet vocabulary and basic positions while focusing on being expressive through their movement and imagination. Dress code: leotards, tights or leggings and leather bottom ballet shoes.

Adult Art Ceramics Chemical Hazards in Ceramics Workshop

Master Artist Workshop Image Transfer on Clay Incorporate detailed images onto your work and expand your ideas of what you thought was possible with clay imagery! This one day workshop will cover a variety of different ways to incorporate photographs, copy machine images, text and drawings onto your ceramic pottery or sculpture. Anything that can be photo-copied can be easily transferred to your ceramic work using either Toner Transfer Techniques or Iron Transfer Decals. Carol will also show how to use Underglaze Transfer Decals and Slip Transfer Techniques to add color and pattern to you images. Participants should bring photos, or any other images they want to transfer, 2 or more pieces of leather hard clay and 2 or more finished glazed pieces.

Adult Enrichment General Interest Acting Basics for Adults This class is geared for both adults and senior citizens who wish to pursue acting as a career or just enjoy the challenge and fun of scene work. During class, each student will prepare at least one audition monologue, as well as work two-person scenes with other students. Discussions and preparation will include: editing, text mining, beat work, back story, subtext, active listening, working through the variances of acting for film and stage, and other related topics. Adult Fitness Tai Chi Tai Chi for Everybody This ancient Chinese Martial Art is a form of exercise that combines movement and meditation. The City of Burien takes videotape or photographs of people enjoying our parks or facilities. Photographs may be used for promotional purposes and are used at the discretion of and become the property of the City of Burien.

Should you not want photographs of your child utilized for publications or posted on our website and social media promotion, please let our staff or your instructor know.

Refunds & Credits When appropriate, we will gladly refund or credit your class fee for these amounts: • 100%: When class is cancelled by the Burien Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department due to insufficient enrollment OR when you request to withdraw from the class a minimum of 3 business days prior to the first class and accept a credit.

• 100% (less a $5.00 processing fee): When you request to withdraw from the class a minimum of 3 business days prior to the first class and prefer a refund. No refunds will be issued if you request to withdraw from: • Programs costing $5.00 or less • One day program • Trip or Travel programs where admission was purchased in advance • Special Events • A scholarship was used to pay for a program Credits will be valid for one (1) calendar year. Refunds take approximately 3 weeks to process, and will not be issued from a credit. Medical illness or other extenuating circumstances will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Documentation of the circumstance may be requested.

Recreation Scholarship Program Scholarships are available for youth who are Burien residents and adults 50+ for Adult/Senior Programs.

Inclement Weather Policy During periods of bad weather, radio stations will report school closures and changes in schedules. Please listen for the Highline School District report.

1. SCHOOL CLOSED: All Burien Parks & Rec classes and programs are cancelled. Cancelled classes will be refunded.

2. SCHOOL OPEN/TWO HOUR LATE ARRIVAL: Burien Parks & Rec classes are as follows: • Classes held prior to 10:00 am are cancelled.

• Classes held after 10:00 am call 206.988.3700 for updated information.

3. EARLY RELEASE due to inclement weather: contact the Parks & Rec office for class cancellation information.

PLEASE NOTE: During extended periods of inclement weather, some classes will continue to be cancelled.

The Environment Science Center (ESC) is an outstanding organization in Burien that provides environmental stewardship, sustainability, and academic achievement through science based education.

ESC’s beautiful new facility is located on Seahurst Park’s beach approximately ¼ mile north of the main park entry.

Make friends with like-minded people, apply your skills, gain job experience, and give back to your community!

Local teachers and school staff can contract with ESC to provide environmental education workshops for their students during the school year. Available courses are listed below.

Terrific opportunities to support environmental education in your own community are abundant at ESC. Whether you have 20 years experience in database management, are an amateur photographer, want to learn more about our natural environment, or have no experience at all, we have a place for you.

Salmon Heroes grades 4-12 Offered Fall only. Classroom presentation or both classroom and field study option available. Students learn about salmon lifecycle and habitat while also having hands-on experience with internal and external fish anatomy. The health of local streams and rivers, such as nearby Walker-Miller Creek and the Duwamish/ Green River watershed, is also explored.

Water Heroes Classroom presentation. Available throughout the school year

Follow the Flow Grades K-2 Explores our water cycle, different properties of water, and the importance of watershed health and water quality.

Where Does it Go? Grades 3-12 Examines human-made modifications to the watershed system and differences between a sewer and storm drain. Students learn to identify detrimental effects of street run-off and identify actions to reduce pollutants entering storm drains.

Donations Welcome ESC provides thousands of students the opportunity to enrich their learning through hands-on field studies. To provide equal access for all students, ESC provides most programs free-ofcharge, including bus transportation.
