Volunteer to Restore Miller Creek! Sat., July 8, 2017 & Sat., August 26, 2017 9:30am–12:30pm

We work to remove invasive plant species and plant native species along Miller Creek. Volunteers learn the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems, become familiar with local flora and noxious weeds, and gain valuable restoration work experience. Indeed, it is a fun event where people come together and enjoy the outdoors!

FREE LUNCH!

The Miller-Walker Basin partnership hosts stewardship events and programs to support the health of the basin. Here in Burien, we meet at Miller Creek for a volunteer restoration party for 2½–3 hours once or twice a month throughout the year. Join us!

Whether you live near or far from Miller and Walker Creeks, good stewardship of our land and water carries multiple benefits:

»» Healthier home and yard for children and pets »» Cleaner water in our streams and at Puget Sound beaches »» Less flooding and erosion »» Healthy urban forests and green spaces

Bring a filled water bottle. Please wear sturdy clothes that will protect you from the weather and thorny plants, and that you don’t mind getting dirty! Gloves, tools, and light refreshments are provided. No experience necessary. Training is provided.

MEET along the Miller Creek trail.

From the intersection of S. 144th St. and S 144th Way, walk south along S 144th Way, and turn right onto the trail. We’ll be on the right.

The Miller-Walker Basin partnership is funded by City of Burien, City of Normandy Park, City of Seatac, Port of Seattle, and King County.

How Can You Help a Stranded Beach Animal?

If you see a baby seal, sea lion, or other mammal on the beach, follow these guidelines: DON’T TOUCH. These are wild animals and easily stressed by humans. Seal mothers often leave their pups ashore while they’re feeding at sea.

OBSERVE the animal from a distance of at least 50 ft. Keep people and dogs away.

CALL the Mast Center at 206.724.2687 to report an injured or deceased animal.

Stroll along the beach on a low tide and you’ll see that the shore is alive! Join the Seattle Aquarium’s Beach Naturalist Program on low tide days in late spring and summer to learn more about your local beach. Beach naturalists are local volunteers who care about Puget Sound beaches and want to help people learn about and enjoy their shorelines. Beach Naturalists know their beaches: they can help you enjoy the habitat without harming it; tell you what sea stars eat; explain why barnacles stand on their heads; describe how moon snails lay their eggs; and so much more. This is a free, familyfriendly, drop in program. For the 2017 schedule and locations visit seattleaquarium.org/beach-naturalist May 29 1–4pm
