id you know that our spine team members at the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital “are proud to have completed the first surgery using the MAGEC system in the United States since the FDA granted 510K clearances on Feb. 27, 2014?” If you didn’t, see page 15 of the Summer 2014 issue of “Shriner Magazine.” Did you know that our Burn Units “can also provide treatments to minimize scarring, regardless of the initial cause?” If you didn’t, see page 13 of the Summer 2014 issue of “Leaders in CARE.” Arthrogryposis is a condition affecting one or more areas of the body prior to birth. It is a condition in which a joint becomes permanently fixed in a position, completely or partially restricting the movement of the

affected joint. One of the best doctors at treating this condition is at our Philadelphia hospital. He has patients coming from almost every state in the U. S., plus Canada, Mexico, Ireland, the Netherlands, and other countries. I am proud to say that our travel coordinator and one of our parents were instrumental in getting the Netherlands patient to apply to Philadelphia. This patient parent is also in contact with another Netherlands family experiencing the same condition. Information on how to apply to Philadelphia has been forwarded to this second family, also. The Shrine Temple in Germany has contacted the first family and will provide their transportation. Isn’t it great to be a “KHEDIVE” Shriner!

aving just returned from the 140th Imperial Shrine Session held this year in Minneapolis, MN, I can report that Illustrious Sir Douglas Maxwell, reporting for all our 22 of our Hospitals, indicated they are not only operating in the black but have overcome financial problems that existed over the past several years. That is good news indeed but encourages us to work even harder to keep it that way in the future. The Philadelphia hospital was featured in a number of ways during the several days of the Session with presentations by medical staff focusing on new techniques and procedures benefitting our children. Of course a highlight of each session is the super parade by Shrine units from throughout the nation. This year was no exception for it lasted more than three hours winding its way through downtown Minneapolis to the delight of the thousands of sepctators. Clown units are always prominent and loved especially by the children. Next year’s Session will be in Houston, TX. Attending an Imperial Session permits one to better understand the international aspects of the shrine and its accomplishments and certainly reinforces the applicable expression - “I AM PROUD TO BE A SHRINER!” Yours in the Faith, Lon

reetings Nobles and families. We are doing well at Greenville. The patient count is up and we are in the process of adding at least one, possibly two, new doctors. We are working to expand the operating room and perform procedures five days a week, instead of four. We are talking to other health care facilities in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and other areas of South Carolina concerning outreach programs and handling some of their needs. The health care industry is a big business, and we are exploring some of these opportunities as we strive to grow further and secure the future of our hospital. The Khedive new patient count for 2014 is low, with two children as of June 23. My board meetings are the fourth Monday of each month. I travel Sundays and return Tuesdays, if anyone would like to accompany me. I encourage any and all Nobles to attend a meeting and see the hospital firsthand. It is a life-changing experience. I would like to thank those who have made donations directly to our Greenville Hospital. These include the Peninsula Shrine Club and the Zulekia Court. Special thanks goes to Lady Debbie for her fundraising project, the Build-A-Bear Program. Jody R. Dudley Board of Governors Shiners Hospital for Children-Greenville, SC

We are sorry to say that Nobles sometimes pass away without our acknowledgement. As they are Brothers, they are due the recognition of their passing. Please assist in notifying the Temple when a Noble expires. Phone 757-420-4510 or email info@khediveshrine.org

reetings Nobles all, from Ocean View Shrine Club. OVSC is cruising right along this year under our direction from Capt. Alex. It is nice to see The Captain behind the Helm again. This makes His 3rd time of being Pres. of OVSC. Our Onion sale turned out to be a great success. I believe we sold out in a week after deliver. Thanks to all the buyers of the tasty Vidalia’s as well as the sellers. Look forward to next May when the onions come out again. Not much more to write about. We’re enjoying this year under the Ill Sir Randy’s rule. There’s a lot of fun to be had in the upcoming events and a lot of fun was had by the one’s past.

How many Nobles reading this are from the Ocean View area or surrounding areas in Norfolk? I look in the directory of Khedive Shrine and see many Nobles that live only blocks or short distances away from where OVSC meets every 1st Thursday of each month and don’t visit or belong to the club. We would love to have you come visit and join The OVSC. Like I mentioned above we meet the 1st Thursday of each month at Mom & Pop’s Family Restaurant 331 E Bay View Blvd. at 6pm (Social Hour 6-7pm-Dinner mtg. @7pm) C’mon out and enjoy some fellowship. We don’t bite!!!! Yours in Faith Alan K. Brown

rovost Officers continue to evaluate fund raising possibilities in order to establish Provost with an alternate successful fund raiser in order to best support the Hospitals and Temple. Regardless of changes the Famous best BBQ will be available throughout the year from any Provost member. Watch the Temple Web site for information as it develops. Provost conducted two successful paper drives under the leadership of Captain Mike raising monies for the Transportation Fund. Thanks to all who participated. Provost provided security and ID checks for the Rodeo and wish to give Joe Ramsey and Kenny Askew a huge KUDO for a fantastically successful event for our Temple. An untold number of hours were given by both Nobles and their staff. If you see them pass on a thank you. Provost is preparing the marching unit for the MASA (Virginia Beach) and SASA (Myrtle Beach ) Parades. Plan to

Provost in the Spring Ceremonial Parade June 7th attend one or both as a good time is sure to be had by all. Hospitality rooms will abound. Are you leadership material? Provost will be holding officer elections in November and those seeking election need to start politicking. Thought provoking: “You cannot plough a field by turning it over in your mind” Looking for a Unit? Join us on the second Wednesday of the month at the Temple. Yours in the Faith, Wesley King

Motor Corps By Past Captain Ernie Ayers

reeting Nobles, first I would like to congratulate and welcome all our new Nobles that joined our great fraternity at the Spring Ceremonial. We are excited to have you with us and look forward to working with you in the future. Since our last writing Motor Corps has participated in the NATO Parade, the Holland Parade and the Strawberry Parade. All of these parades are great fun but Motor Corps always looks forward to the Pungo Strawberry Parade the most and that’s because of the large and friendly crowds but mainly for the hospitality always shown to us by Page and Nina Eaton. We thank both of you for always opening your home to us and making us feel so welcome. May 4th the Motor Corps held it’s annual Shrimp Feast and I am pleased to report that this years event was the most successful to date. Seems our Shrimp Feast keeps getting bigger and better every year and that’s because of the hard work and dedication of all the Motor Corps members and Ladies and from the support of so many Nobles in Khedive We would like to thank our cooking crew, kitchen staff and servers for doing an outstanding job. Despite several mechanical problems in the cook shack none of our over 600 guest had to wait for anything in the serving line, great job guys, great job. The Motor Corps ladies basket raffle and bake sale was once again a huge success. This years baskets were the best yet and the deserts are always to die for. Our Ladies put at lot of time and effort into making these baskets and deserts and year after year it shows. We thank all of you for all you do. Our Motor Corps Ladies are the best, second to none, and although we will rarely admit it Motor Corps would not be what it is without you. All of us would like to thank everyone that supported us and to congratulate our Captain, Steve Smith and his lovely Lady Judy for another successful year. Also The Motor Corps would also like to give a special thanks to our friends with the Drum and Bugle Corps, the Scooter Patrol and to all the young ladies with Bethel 42 for coming out and giving us a hand, we truly could not have done it without you. June 1st Motor Corps headed to the Virginia Beach Amphitheater for the Foreigner and Stix concert to participate in the C/D sale fundraiser for our hospitals. Five dollars from every sale goes directly to the Hospital, we collected close to $3000 in donations, not a bad night selling C/Ds and listening to two great bands. This is really a fun event, you get to meet and talk to a lot of people mainly answering questions about the Shrine but the best part to me is that so many people come up to you to thank you for what you do and tell us how we have made a difference in their lives or in the lives of someone close to them, makes you proud to be a Shriner. Although Mother Nature did not cooperate Friday night

Motor Corps at Langley for Shrine Night at the Races Photographer Lady Cheryl Emerick this years Rodeo was again a huge success and as always the Motor Corps kept the Rodeo grounds as clean as a pin. Dirty job but somebody’s got to do it. The Rodeo is always a good time and a great fundraiser for the Temple. Congratulation to the Rodeo staff and to Ill. Sir Randy Murphy for another successful event. Speaking of successful events, can you believe we went to Langley and it didn’t rain, someone somewhere made a mistake, it just doesn’t feel right not going back two or three times. All jokes aside Langley is one of the highlights of the year for us, nothing quite like driving our cars on a NASCAR sanctioned track, maybe one day they will let us race, that’s when we’ll show the big boys how it’s done. Many thanks to Ill. Sir Randy for making it such a great evening. Well that’s all for now, Motor Corps has put together a first place competition team and is looking forward to MASA and SASA. Hope to see to see everyone there. So until then be safe in whatever do and never forget our true purpose. Ernie Ayers Past Captain Khedive Motor Corps
