Old Wellies

The Bernard Society, which re-launched this year after a 90-year hiatus, is a joint group of pupils and staff who come together to invite and host interesting external speakers at the School. In March the Society hosted its fourth guest speaker, Old Wellensian Mr Stuart Tibbs, of the Government Economic Service. Mr Tibbs came to speak on the topics of How Britain Can Build Africa Back Better and Careers in the Civil Service. It was a fascinating talk enjoyed by all pupils.

These free events are open to the entire School community of pupils, staff and parents.

Old Wellies Reunion at the RAF Club!

We held our annual Old Wellensian Reunion at the RAF Club in London with a dinner reception and a three-course meal.

They were joined by former and present members of staff including our Head Master Mr Tighe, Mr Coward, Mr Padgett, Mr Boot, Alwyn Gillen and Andy Kemp. It was a particular pleasure to catch up with the 2016 and 2017 cohorts, all of whom are at the start of their careers. It was heartening to see the sheer variety of occupations they are following, demonstrating the true breadth of a Wells education! Film and media, actuarial work, teaching, music performance, engineering, consultancy and post-graduate courses were just some of the pathways that some of our most recent alumni are now pursuing.

Annie selected for GB Rowing Team

Old Wellensian Annie Campbell-Orde has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Women’s Eight rowing squad at the Windermere Cup in Seattle.

Annie took up rowing while at Loughborough University. After graduating Annie based herself in the East Midlands with Nottingham Rowing Club where she represented England in the Home International Regattas, winning Gold and Silver medals in 2018 and 2019. Following a move to Leander Club in 2021 and success at the GB Senior Team Trials this year, Annie has been selected for the GB Women’s squad.
