Somerset U17 Rugby Squad Selections

Congratulations to Lower Sixth pupils Christian JennettButcher, Charles Rowley and Ben Mapleston who have been selected for the Somerset RFU U17 Rugby squad.

Christian and Charles represented the side against Gloucestershire in the first of two games during May, and all three pupils were added to the match day squad in the fixture against Dorset and Wiltshire. This is a huge achievement for Christian, Charles and Ben after consistent hard work in the off-season fuelled by a drive to improve. The School team can now boast the inclusion of three county-standard players!

Harry and Harrison represent Somerset Developing Player Programme

Congratulations to Harry Hellier and Harrison Ashwell (both Year 9) who represented the Somerset Developing Player Programme in the Bath Academy Festival at North Dorset RFC. Special mention also goes to Ralph Lewis (Year 9) who would have played for the opposition, the Bath Developing Player Programme, if not for a cricket injury.

Sophie represents England in Cross Country

Congratulations to Sophie Nicholls (Year 11) who was selected to run for England at the Home Countries’ Cross Country International, held at Pembrey, Wales.

Sophie qualified due to her superb performance at the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Hop Farm in Kent; she ran for Somerset in the Intermediate Girls race and won the bronze medal.

Racing across hills and sand dunes, Sophie and the team ran in beautiful weather across the Welsh coast. Their efforts were rewarded and the English Schools team secured a gold medal in the Intermediate Girls Cross Country 2022 with Sophie finishing in 4th, narrowly losing 3rd place on the final sprint. Congratulations to Sophie and the team!
