Malaika was entrusted with the job of setting a task for the contestants of the UTV Stars' show, aimed at finding the face for the channel. After the participants completed the given task, Malaika was supposed to give her feedback. However, her remarks did not go down too well with one contestant named Drishti. She later complained of not being treated equally as others because of her weight, said a source. The show started with 11 girls, giving them a chance to romance with glamour. They have to accomplish certain tasks to prove their capability to deal with glamour.

ctor-filmmaker Aamir Khan, revelling in the "dream reaction" to his TV show "Satyamev Jayate", says his purpose is served if his efforts make people introspect. He doesn't want to enter politics and candidly admits he has no solutions to problems. Each Sunday since May 6 has seen the 47-year-old bring Indian television audiences face-to-face with issues like female foeticide, child abuse, malpractices in medical profession, plight of the handicapped, honour killing and domestic violence. An entertainer rarely does that, and Aamir is happy in his space. Excerpts from an interview: Q: Your show has received stupendous response from all quarters. Has the audience given it more love than you expected? A: This is a very dream reaction that we are getting...right from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, people are watching it in the small towns, villages, big cities... People across all economic groups and across rural and urban areas are watching it. The way people are emotionally connected to it is great. The way it is moving them, touching them, and affecting them is very heartening.

Not interested in politics: Aamir Khan Q: You seem to have donned the role of a social reformer. Post "Satyamev Jayate", do we see you take on a larger role at some point, perhaps join politics? A: I am not interested in politics, so I won't be joining politics. I feel what I am able to do from where I am, from the stream that I am in, is much more. I can contribute much more (this way). So I am happy doing that. Q: Is there any follow-up mechanism to the social issues that you have been raising on the show? A: We believe information and knowledge make you act differently. Giving a broad example, if you look at a film like "Taare Zameen Par"... When the film was released, majority of the country's population had no idea that there was something like dyslexia, a learning disability. Thereafter, it started having an impact that has continued till today. So what we can do with this show is - 13 "Taare Zameen Par". We are trying to get the viewers to look

Khushi will be shown missing Arnav when Shyam will make an entry in her room and tell her that he is convinced of her hatred for Arnav and they should join hands to destroy the man. Nisha Rawal's entry brings a major twist

The actress has joined the Life OK show as Soumya, who offers to buy her former boyfriend, Arjun (Sudeep Sahir) from his wife Lakshmi (Shraddha Arya). In the show, Arjun and his family have lost all their family wealth and Soumya offers to help them in this way. Nisha admits her role is unusual for the small screen, but not negative. "I signed the show because I was told that I will be entering as the new lead in the show. But Indian audience is not used to these kinds of emotions and feelings. It's

not a negative character at all," said Nisha. "There are no evil expressions or planning and plotting. This role is a prominent role and has equal importance and I am happy with it," she added. Justifying her character, she said: "Soumya loves Arjun and cannot see him in these circumstances. She likes Lakshmi too but at the same time, if she gives away everything she has to Arjun, she will be left with nothing. This is why she offers a barter deal. Soumya is not trying to buy Arjun, she is not evil at all." The twist is loosely based on the lines on Anil Kapoor-Sridevi movie Judaai, in which Urmila Matondkar's character gives Sridevi her wealth in exchange of her husband, played by Anil.

rateik recently injured himself near his eye, while indulging in water sports. While holidaying in Singapore, Prateik went to do some water sports at Mana Mana East Coast Park, a beach in Singapore. Prateik tried his hand at rafting and stand up paddling. While he was doing stand up paddling, he lost his balance and fell off the boat and ended up hurting himself. The boat's paddle hit him near the eye. He got a deep cut on his eyebrow and just managed to save his eye. He started bleeding and was administered first aid. Prateik was in great pain but since he is very fond of water sports, he continued with the sport.

SAIF ALI NEHRU? f all goes well, Saif Ali Khan will be seen playing Jawaharlal Nehru in Britain-based Indian filmmaker, Gurinder Chadha's partition film. The film will be shot in Delhi and Jodhpur. "I've already acquired the necessary permission to shoot everywhere in India including Rashtrapati Bhavan. So I am all set. I don't have to shoot in Pakistan at all. This would be my ultimate dream project and I can't wait for it to take off," she said. It is heard that the filmmaker has already spoke to Naseeruddin Shah to play Muhammad Ali Jinnah and that he is ready for the role.

"This is my biggest challenge to date. I've been working on my partition film for some time now. The central character is Lord Mountbatten. The movie is set in January 1947 when Mountbatten was asked to oversee India and the movie ends in August 1947, so it's a brief time span". "But (it is) a huge canvas requiring tonnes and tonnes of research and scores of characters. I've spoken to some people including Naseer and Saif. Nehru's role is a cameo, so I wonder if Saif would be willing to do it," she said on phone from London. If news is to be believed, Hollywood biggies Colin Firth or Michael Fassbender will be roped in to play the film's central figure Lord Mountbatten. The film will go on floor this October.

This is one reason why the shoot of the film is getting delayed. Speaking to a daily, one unit member said, "Salman wants to step out of his vanity when he feels like. Nobody can call him for a shot. The entire unit has to simply wait for him to alight. Even if it means delaying the shoot." Well, this is not the first time. Earlier too, Salman refused to shoot a song in Morocco and so a special set had to be created only because of his starry tantrums. However, director Kabir Khan or producer Aditya Chopra have not complained so far.

"Prithvi is an amazing actor and both are looking very fresh in the film," he added. One can easily witness Banerjee's versatility and clarity in this film. Every actor has given his/her best. Abhay Deol, portraying a South Indian IAS officer, makes a big impression. Kalki's performance is just marvellous. Serial Kisser Emraan Hashmi has redefined his lover boy image and shines as the vulnerable Jogi Parmar. Banerjee's direction impresses with sensuous socialism and capitalism ideologies with a strong story line. On the whole, Shanghai is a serious movie that has a voice, unlike the typical masala stuff. Zayo (Ritvik Sahore) is a brilliant discovery, who plays more like a Junior Sachin Tendulkar. A special applause goes to director Rajesh Mapuskar, who has gone off beat to create such a heart-warming tale that relates to an ordinary man's larger than life dreams. Ferrariâ&#x20AC;Ś narrates the tale of Rustam (Sharman Joshi), an ordinary Government employee, going a risky way to fulfill his son Kayo's dream. Kayo is an extraordinary budding cricketer, who gets selected for a prestigious cricket camp at the Lords Stadium, London. Rustam takes it upon himself to somehow get hold of the large fee of Rs 1.5 lakhs in order to send Kayo to London. He gets lured by a wedding planner, who promises to pay the entire amount only if he could borrow Sachin Tendulkar's Ferrari for a few hours for a wedding. But unfortunately, things go the other way and Rustam gets into trouble, after he mistakenly steals Sachin's Ferrari.

The film Band Baaja Baaraat directed by Maneesh Sharma went on to become a blockbuster and launched the acting career of debutant Ranveer Singh on a high. Born as Ranveer Bhavnani on 6 July 1985, Ranveer Singh had always wanted to become an actor. It was the childhood dream of his. Since he was born in the suburbs of Mumbai (the HQ of Bollywood), India, he was easily influenced by Bollywood films right from his childhood. "I was a very filmy kid. I used to watch a lot of TV and get very influenced by Bollywood." But when he joined college at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai the realization set in that getting a break in Bollywood industry was not an easy task. It is mostly those people, who have a filmy background that get the best opportunities in that industry. Ranveer left the idea of becoming an actor set his eyes in following the second passion of his life which is creative writing. He went on to pursue Bachelor of Arts from the Indiana University located in Bloomington, USA, but also took up the subject of theater as his minor. Sharman Joshi’s first film as a hero, Ferrari Ki Sawaari, is making waves. In this interview he promises “quality cinema with a hawk’s eye on the box office.” You waited a long time for a film like ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari’… I’ve not waited for anything; I’ve been doing what I have to do, which is acting. I want to do films that excite me, and if that takes time, I am committed to myself to give it that amount of time. I always knew that there would be this one special film which would change things for me, in terms of my commercial box office standing. You didn’t think ‘3 Idiots’ would be that film? I’m saying this only from the box office point of view. “3 Idiots” was an ensemble film, so the market looks at it differently. It was a huge turning point in my life, but Ferrari…” is going to take my journey one step ahead. You are a father to three children. Did you use your experience in your portrayal of a father in the film? Actually, I made a conscious effort not to do that. Taking emotions from your personal life and using them in your film is, I feel, spoiling the purity of the performance and being dishonest to the script. Besides, it is the easy way out. The script is the Bible for me and it is my duty to perform what it dictates; what is the vision of the director. At the same time, I see that I don’t overstudy the script. Films in which mothers play a stellar role are common, but when you see a man being a good father, it captures your heart. Do you agree? Absolutely. This was virgin territory and I can’t understand how no one thought of this before. It was a film waiting to happen, and I’m very grateful it was I who brought the emotion to life. In today’s scenario, the one genre that appeals is action. Do you see yourself doing an action film? I don’t think it’s about action. Look at “3 Idiots”, which is the highest grossing film. Besides, today, it’s 100 crore, tomorrow, it could be 200 crore or 500 crore. Like I said earlier, I’m here for the long haul, and you can expect blockbusters from me. I’m here for entertainment and I believe in that completely. I will provide quality cinema with a hawk’s eye on the box office.

CHICKEN PULAO

Quick and easy chicken and rice preparation

INGREDIENTS

Boneless chicken, 1 1/2 inch pieces 600 grams • Basmati rice, soaked 1 1/2 cups

GULAB JAMUN By Garima Mahantan

Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon Salt to taste Ginger paste 2 tablespoons Garlic paste 2 tablespoons Oil 4 tablespoons Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon Cloves 6-8 Green cardamoms 6-8 Bay leaves 2 Cinnamon 2 inch stick Onions, sliced 2 medium Tomatoes, chopped 3 medium Yogurt 1/2 cup Chicken stock 3 cups

Preparation Time:20 - 50 minutes

METHOD

Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Take chicken pieces in a bowl. Add half red chilli powder, salt, half the ginger paste, half the garlic paste and mix. Keep it in the refrigerator for fifteen to twenty minutes to marinate. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, cloves, green cardamoms, bay leaves and cinnamon. Sauté till fragrant. Add onions and sauté till lightly browned. Add the remaining ginger paste, garlic paste and red chilli powder. Stir and sauté for two minutes. Add tomatoes, salt, yogurt and continue to sauté for two minutes. Add rice, marinated chicken pieces and coriander leaves and mix well. Add chicken stock (or vegetable stock) and bring it to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and let it cook till both the chicken and rice are done. Serve hot.

Ghee for frying, pistachio nuts for garnishing For syrup • 7 cups water • 7 cups sugar • 1 tbsp rose water

METHOD

• Combine the milk powder, self raising flour and ground cardamom in a large mixing bowl. Add full cream and knead with your hands into soft but pliable dough. Form the dough into 45-50 balls, about 2 cm in diameter, using the palms of your hands to roll them and avoid cracks. The jamuns can also be stuffed with saffron, pistachio nuts or green cardamom powder.

If the ghee is too hot, then the gulabs will burn black on the outside but stay hard and uncooked inside. If it is only warm, the gulabs will just sit on the bottom of the pan getting greasy. Deep fry prepared balls on a slow flame till golden in colour. The balls should soak in the syrup for at least two hours before serving and may be stored, well sealed and refrigerated, for up to four days. Return to room temp or warm before serving. Garnish with pistachio nuts.

HAHID KAPOOR is one of the most physically fit actors in B-town. He sports such a chiseled male body, something which several men dream of. In the movie 'Chance Pe Dance' the vegetarian actor went beyond the six packs and flaunted an eight pack. So what helps Shahid maintain such a great physique? Shahid's fitness mantra is 50 percent diet and 50 percent exercise. MY WORK-OUT ROUTINE: I make it a point to run on treadmill at least 15 minutes a day. A fine balance between cardiovascular exercise and weight training is needed for a chiseled body. My fitness trainer Abbas Ali has been instrumental in helping me build this physique. If I don't get time to hit the gym, I do regular exercise at home. DIET PLAN: Carbohydrate, protein and fat must be precisely included in your daily diet. I make sure to have the right breakfast, pre-workout snack, post-workout snack, and small meals throughout the day. I avoid fried foods and too much of aerated drinks. Oily, greasy stuffs are a big `NO'. I used to eat every three hours during the day. TIPS OF THE MONTH: Though it is said that leisurely walk is good for health, a new study says that jogging is much more effective. Brisk walking or a little stroll is not enough to shed those extra kilos. To get a good physique one has to sweat out a lot. Do jogging or play tennis as they are considered good exercise. It will also improve your immune system. Shahid considers Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone to be the fit male and female actors respectively in Bollywood.

CAMBRIDGE (New Zealand)

he name says it all. Despite the rambunctious Waikato River looking nothing like the Cam, the good burghers of Cambridge have done all they can to assume an air of English gentility. There are village greens, avenues lined with magnificent exotic trees and an indecent number of faux-Tudor houses. Even the Superloo looks like a Victorian cottage. Famous for the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses, you can almost smell the wealth of the area in its charming main street, dotted with fine Edwardian and Art Deco buildings. Equine references are rife in public sculpture, and plaques boast of Melbourne Cup winners. It's an altogether pleasant place to work on your 'rah-rah' voice and while away a day or two.

PORT ROYAL (Jamaica)

nce the pirate capital of the Caribbean - and for more than 200 years the hub of British naval power in the West Indies - Port Royal today is a dilapidated, ramshackle place of tropical lassitude, replete with important historical buildings collapsing to dust. Today's funky fishing hamlet gives little hint of the town's former flamboyant glory. The Port Royal Development Project has long touted the tourism potential of Port Royal as a possible marine archaeological attraction, with much lip service given to plans for a 32-hectare theme park, cruise-ship pier, entertainment centre and arcade, Jamaica music museum, and heritage re-enactments including townsfolk in period costumes. Visitors can wander the dusty grounds of Fort Charles, St Peter's Church and the naval cemetery. Most tourist sites are open from 9am to 4pm weekdays and 10am to 5pm weekends.
