Indian film U to cement their

he Hollywood Walk of Fame consists of more than 2,400 stars embedded in the sidewalks of Los Angeles' Hollywood district. The 15 blocks draw nearly 10 million domestic and international visitors annually. Now Bollywood plans take-two by replicating a similar tribute for the glitterati of the India film scene. UTV Stars, the Bollywood entertainment channel, which had announced late last year the launch of Bollywood Walk of the Stars in Mumbai, akin to Hollywood's prestigious Walk of Fame, has finally fixed a March launch of its project. The attraction will be erected along the Bandra Bandstand, a kilometre-long walkway along the sea on the west side of Bandra. This posh suburb of Mumbai is home to many of Bollywood's elite. Instead of simple marble stars outlined in brass, Mumbai's Walk of the Stars will go a step further. Brass signatures and hand impressions of nearly 100 stars will be embedded in slabs along the two-kilometre stretch of promenade. Additionally, there will be six or seven life-sized bronze statues dedicated to the stars of yesteryear, casually lounging on the benches provided for visitors. Some of the names being batted around for this distinct honour include Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, and Shammi Kapoor. Work along the Bandra promenade is in already in progress and completion is scheduled in March. "This is an effort to bring the fans closer to the stars while also beautifying the area and increasing its appeal for tourists," said Nikhil Gandhi, business head of UTV Stars, the television channel behind

the project. Organizers of the Mumbai-based Walk of the Stars are hoping the project will attract domestic tourists, as well as international Bollywood buffs. "Plans are also underway to launch similar projects in Gurgaon, Dubai and London," Gandhi added. "Getting hold of a piece of pavement was difficult, but the residents' association was very co-operative." The bandstand area is frequented by Bollywood tourists hoping to catch a glimpse

Encouraged by the response to the concept, UTV Stars now plans to launch a similar 'walk' in Delhi, and also in London and Dubai. "When we first announced the project, we were encouraged by the excitement it generated within the industry. We also received feedback on how it can be enhanced. Meanwhile, we realised that there is a sizeable NRI population that should also be catered to," says Nikhil. That propelled the channel to look beyond Bandstand at Bandra in Mumbai. "There is a lot of work to be done. We have to take note of the weather conditions in each of the cities we propose to go to. CHANDIGARH: Punjabi singers swept the PTC Punjabi Film Awards 2012. Gippy Grewal and Diljit Dosanjh bagged the Best Actor Awards this year. Obviously, Punjabi music world has created an indispensable place for itself in Punjabi films. This is evident from singing stars playing leading roles in Punjabi films and drawing audiences to theatres. The trend was evident from early days when Punjabi films visage started taking shape. It was none other than heartthrob Harbhajan Mann who revived the interest of the people towards Punjabi cinema with the success of his "Jee aiya nu". ow that it is confirmed that Deepika Padukone will be playing the lady lead in Rajnikant's Tamil flick Kochadaiyyan, preparations have already begun. The actress will have to get several shades darker so as to match her co-star Rajinikanth. Says a source close to the project, "We're applying a special imported technique to the film wherein the actors' looks, including their skin-tone, has to be compatible. In Kochadaiyyan, the demands of digitalised filmmaking are different. Deepika's complexion is many shades lighter than Rajiniji's. When we suggested that her skin colour should be suitably modified on screen, Deepika sportingly agreed." Deepika's complexion will be digitally darkened to match Rajni sir's colour. fter dancing to "Ooh La La" as Silk Smitha in "The Dirty Picture", Vidya Balan has now donned a Maharashtrian avatar for a traditional Lavani number called "Mala Jau De!" in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's "Ferrari Ki Sawaari". This is Balan's first item song and she spent over three weeks rehearsing for it with a local troupe from Kolhapur. Not wanting to make it a typical Bollywood number, director Rajesh Mapuskar was adamant that Vidya work with authentic folk dancers, who even choreographed the song. A source reveals, "Vidya was very excited as she's never done a Lavani before. She took a lot of interest in e v e r y thing, from how to wear the traditional sari and accessories to learning the steps correctly."

Trade analysts too agree, though they insist that it is true only in the case of the topmost rung. "Much has to do with the fact that most of these top heroines today are not only props in films, but are actually a huge factor when it comes to selling the films and the industry is accepting it too," they say. "A film with Deepika in it or a Kareena or Katrina Kaif or even Priyanka Chopra is more likely to fetch a higher price than a film without them. And it's not a few lakhs we are looking at, but several crores," reveals an industry insider. Trade analyst Komal Nahta adds that what has helped is the fact that several of the recent films were heroine-centric and so are the ones coming up. "Be it in brand endorsements or plum film projects, the heroines are catching up with the heroes more than ever before and this puts them in a better position to bargain or negotiate deals," explains Nahta. "Also the current crop of actresses is far more financially secure and they need not pander to the whims and fancies of filmmakers or heroes like their counterparts would sometimes have to in the past. So they don't mind dictating their terms in some cases, though the industry still remains a herodriven one," adds a veteran filmmaker. Nahta

PARINEETI CHOPRA, the 23year-old actress who made her debut opposite Ranveer Singh in "Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl" has won almost all female debut trophies at major awards shows. Vivacious and full of energy, she talks about her life-changing shift from marketing and PR to acting, turning to older sister Priyanka Chopra for advice, and her films ahead. You were in the PR division of a production house. How did acting happen? It's true...this time last year, I was working for Yash Raj Films, and within 12 months I've finished my second film! I used to co-ordinate interviews for Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukerji. I was their manager, bodyguard, assistant and PR person. I never wanted to be an actor; I was a nerd and weighed 85 kilos, so naturally becoming an actress was never on my mind! I studied finance and was a topper. I even went abroad to study further but returned during the recession. That's when I came to Yash Raj. People would tell me, 'Your cousin is a heroine, why don't you get into acting as well?' That really irritated me. But when I saw the process of acting up close, I felt like I could do this well. By then I'd met Maneesh Sharma (Band Bajaa Baraat director) and we'd become friends. He told Aditya (Chopra) that he wanted me to play Dimple. He asked me to do a dummy audition for fun and I did not know the tape would reach Adi. A few days later, I got a call from Maneesh saying I had to sign a three-film deal with the studio! What about comparisons with Priyanka? I can't compare myself to her, but I've always wanted to be an equally good actor. She keeps telling me, 'Thappad marungi agar acchi acting nahi ki toh!' She's a typical big sister. After watching my first film, she hugged me for five minutes. She gives me real advice because she's gone through the same things. and Adi around me. Was it a downer having to play a cameo in your debut film as opposed to Ishaqzaade, where you are the main lead? Not at all. Maneesh and Adi told me this was the right thing to do and I trusted them. Dimple wasn't an ideal launch in the sense that it wasn't my solo lead film, but I knew that if I did a good job then people would notice me. That's what Adi said too and it was true. Was it intimidating working with Ranveer and Anushka? I wasn't nervous. On my first day on set, I had a scene with Ranveer and Maneesh was worried about what I would do. But I just walked on set, looked at the camera and gave my shot with ease. I wasn't intimidated and felt comfortable in front of the camera. There were days when I struggled, but I was never camera conscious. Would you be comfortable doing kissing scenes and donning bikinis. If you are an actor, you will be asked to do certain things. If I'm told to do an intimate scene or wear certain clothes, I can't say no if that's what the script and character demands. I know there are actors who won't kiss on screen and I respect that, but I don't have any rules like that. I will stay true to the script.

Simmer till you feel it has been cooked and the lamb is tender, turning half way during cooking. 4. Using two forks, shred lamb. Serve with coriander, rice and lime halves.

Prateik admits his new look is a combination of everything: muscularity, agility, flexibility. For his new role, he has "worked out six times a week for two hours each day. It was a rigorous and intense routine, especially for a skinny guy like me." IMPORTANCE OF FOOD High-protein diets with moderate carbs, lots of greens and at least five litres of water a day is what worked for me. But to achieve results like this, one must also cut sugar and fat intake totally, which was really tough for me. Seven to eight smaller meals mean you eat every two to three hours to keep the muscles replenished with enough fuel to grow. ON BEATING TEMPTATION If you figure out a way to keep your metabolism high -small meals help. It'll help in burning your little cheats faster. Overcoming temptation for goodies helps if you have a strong mind, and if you allow yourself to cheat once every 15 days. ON OVERCOMING OBSTACLES I work at shifts during odd hours, so I cannot maintain a bound workout regime. I'd work out whenever I get any free time. It doesn't have to be a gym; you could even go for a walk if that's what is convenient for you. For me, it was the challenge that motivated me: I wanted to see how far I could go. I wanted to push my limits. I've learnt that there are no shortcuts to success, so don't rely on synthetic stuff. Hard work pays off eventually like nothing else does! ON NECESSARY SUPPLEMENTATION Yes, protein powders and Creatine can come in handy when building a physique, but it's important to be informed about their correct usage and take them judiciously. I used whey protein, but sparingly, only when I wouldn't get time to eat during busy shooting schedules. Being aware of what you take is sometimes more important than taking it! ON THE PILLARS OF FITNESS Sleep, exercise and diet-not necessarily in that order - are all equally important to build an impressive and lasting physique. NATADOLA BEACH, Fiji

orgeous Natadola Beach is Viti Levu's best. Its vast bank of white sand slides into a cobalt sea, providing good swimming regardless of the tide level. If you want to snorkel, surf or windsurf, take your own gear. Natadola's strong currents often defy the brochures so instead of glassy, still conditions you may find sufficient churn for good body surfing. Take care; the varying conditions and undertow have caught out even experienced surf swimmers and readers have reported injuries. For non-swimmers Natadola is an utterly photogenic spot to zone out but watch your valuables as there have been reports of theft. Local villagers offer horse riding along the beach and sell green coconuts for drinking, and necklaces; unfortunately they can be pretty pushy. If you don't want to take them up on their offer issue a firm but polite 'no thank you' and put some distance between you and the car park.

ourtallam, the 'Spa of the south', is situated at an elevation of about 167m on the Western Ghats in Tirunelveli District. It is an excellent health resort and is famous for its water falls. The Peraruvi (Main Falls), Chitraruvi (Small Falls), Shenbaga Devi Falls, Thenaruvi (Honey Falls), Anitharuvi (Five Falls), Pazhathotta Aruvi, Puli Aruvi (Tiger Falls), Pazhaya Courtallam (Old Falls) are not only a tourist spot but also a famous health resort. Every year June to September one can enjoy the fall season. It contains lot of herbs which are good for health. Courtallam water has medicinal properties since the water runs through forests of herbs and the water has therapeutic qualities to cure physical ailments. During the fall season thousands of tourists from far and near visit this place. Courtallam temple is dedicated to Lord Thirukutralanathar (Siva). This temple contains many inscriptions about Chola and Pandya Kings.
