Miguel Almaguer and the Orquesta Escuela de Puerto Vallarta
La primera casa llena en Teatro Vallarta sucedió el año pasado con la presentación de la Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Guadalajara, con Miguel Almaguer como director invitado. Sin haber cumplido los 30 años de edad, y tan joven como veterano, el director mexicano comenta que le advirtieron que no se fuera a sentir mal si la gente no iba al concierto. “Los vallartenses no estamos acostumbrados a ese tipo de música”, le dijeron. Sin embargo, con cinco presentaciones diferentes, todas con la casa llena, sus consejeros no pudieron haber estado más equivocados. Ahora, y al cargo de la nueva Orquesta Escuela de Puerto Vallarta, Almaguer se encuentra rodeado de cada vez más jóvenes músicos igualmente talentosos como maestros. Su meta no es la de crear virtuosos de la música, sino de ayudar a la juventud vallartense a desarrollarse de manera más armónica, a través de la educación musical. Pronto disfrutarás de excelentes presentaciones tanto de la orquesta como de los ensambles de cámara que los maestros organizarán.

The very first full house performance at Teatro Vallarta took place last year when the Guadalajara Youth Symphony Orchestra visited our city, with guest conductor Miguel Almaguer. Still in his 20s, the young but very experienced Mexican conductor had been warned prior to the concert not to feel disappointment by a lackluster attendance. “Vallartenses are not used to this type of music,” they had told him. However, with five separate standing room only performances by the orchestra, his advisors couldn’t have been further from the truth. Almaguer now heads the newly formed Orquesta Escuela de Puerto Vallarta, flanked by an increasing number of equally young and talented faculty, not with the goal of producing virtuosos but rather to help Puerto Vallarta’s youth develop more harmoniously through music. Expect excellent performances in the future, not only from the orchestra but also from the smaller ensembles created by the faculty. PO
