Gourmet Festival Enters Second Decade Proving that it’s not only the bad penny that returns, the 11th annual Gourmet Festival has Vallartans and visitors alike salivating in anticipation. In this truly international festival, over 30 restaurants invite chefs from restaurants around the world to wow the public with special offerings, culinary classes, wine tastings and other gourmet delights. Chef Luis Fitch Receives Award Los Xitomates’ owner/chef Luis Fitch was among the Mexican chefs singled out for the meritorious premio Five Star Diamond Award. Restaurant Week a Resounding Success Since there’s nearly nothing as important in Puerto Vallarta as dining well, this spring introduced another opportunity for culinary exploration with the first annual Restaurant Week. Actually spanning two weeks, May 15 - 31, more than 30 restaurants participated with special menus of $149 or $249 pesos for a three-course meal. Participation proved invaluable at a time when restaurants usually experience a slowdown; this year, some reported as much as a 74% increase in business. Puesto que no hay nada tan importante en Puerto Vallarta como cenar bien, esta primavera se introdujo otra oportunidad para explorar el mundo culinario con el primer evento anual de Restaurant Week. Thierry Blouet Featured on TV Show Chef Thierry Blouet of Café des Artistes, whose Thierry Blouet Cocina de Autor was recently recognized in Conde Nast’s Hot List of Tables, was also featured on the popular Argentinean TV program elgourmet.com, in a series of recordings on various Puerto Vallarta beaches. For the program, called “Maremagnum,” which always features destinations on the sea, filming was done at locations such as Destiladeras, Quimixto and Punta Negra. The program is watched not only all over Latin America, but in Europe as well. El chef Thierry Blouet de Café des Artistes, cuyo restaurante Thierry Blouet Cocina de Autor fue recientemente reconocido en la lista de Mejores Mesas del Conde Nast, será presentado en el popular programa televisivo argentino, elgourmet.com, en una serie de grabaciones en varias playas de Puerto Vallarta.
