first
day
of
robotics
/Cuenca, primer día de Robótica/ il Primo giorno di robotica a Cuenca: El día después de la llegada a Cuenca, nos juntamos en el instituto a las 8:30 y pasamos al salón de actos donde nos hemos separado en dos grupos: los italianos han conocido el centro y los españoles hemos bajado al taller para comenzar a preparar los materiales de robótica. Cuando han llegado los italianos al taller, hemos recibido una charla de presentación en la que nos han explicado el uso de los robots de Lego y sus componentes. Tras una parada, hemos continuado con la presentación y hemos visto unas practicas realizadas por otros alumnos españoles. Seguidamente, nos hemos vuelto a separar en tres grupos: el primero usó Scratch, el segundo Lego y el tercero escribía artículos para el periódico. 1

Scratch es un programa de lenguaje visual que te permite crear tus propios juegos, historias o presentaciones; seleccionando solamente un fondo, eligiendo los personajes y desplazando y poniendo los personajes en la pantalla. El grupo usó Scratch para presentar Cuenca, creando un mapa y un personaje que iba alrededor de la ciudad parándose en los lugares y monumentos mas interesantes y populares, y explicando también algo sobre ellos.
La aplicación de Lego usa un sistema de programación por bloques de distintos tipos: de acción, de control de dirección y de sensores. En un fondo vamos situando los bloques. Hay varias ventanas que nos enseñan el estado de los sensores. Se puede descargar el programa o ejecutar directamente. Hemos usado un trabajo de un garaje con el programa de Lego. Su objetivo es que el coche construido llegue al garaje, pare, espere a que se abra la puerta para entrar. The day after the Italians' arrival in Cuenca, we met in the high school at 8:30 and we went to the Assembly Hall, where we divided into two groups: The Italians visited the center and the Spanish went to the workshop to prepare the materials for the robotics workshop. 2

When the Italians arrived at the workshop we attended a meeting of presentation in which they explained us the use of the Lego robots and the components. After a break we continued with the presentation and we saw some practical demonstrations prepared by other Spanish students. After that, we divided into 3 groups, the first used Scratch, the second used Lego and the third wrote articles for the newspaper. Scratch is a visual language programme which permits to create your own games, histories or presentations; selecting only a background, choosing the characters and dropping and dragging the characters on the screen. The group used Scratch to present Cuenca. They downloaded a map and two characters (one was a poor and the other was a hippo). Using this programme you can visit Cuenca and the most important places of our city, like Saint Paul's Bridge, the Hanging Houses or the cathedral. In each place a screen comes up explaining the most important things about that place. It can help the tourists to learn about the city in a new language and to meet different people. The Lego Application uses a Programming System by different types of blocks: action blocks, direction blocks and sensors. In the background we put the blocks. There are many windows that show us the sensors information. You can download the programme or play it directly. Every year the Spanish high schools build different projects. This year the project has planned to use, for the Lego robots, a garage and a lift. We have used a garage made by the students with the Lego Programme. The car has to arrive to the garage, to stop, to wait until the door opens and enter.

JOURNEY TO MADRID/ VIAJE A MADRID/ VISITA A MADRID A las 8:00 de la mañana quedamos en el hotel EXE, para esperar a que viniese el autobús, salimos
y hacia

8:30. Sobre las 10:30 llegamos, y nos llevó al Santiago Bernabeu, donde tuvimos unos poco
minutos
para
verlo
y
hacernos fotos. Luego, cogimos de
nuevo
el
autobús
para
dejarnos
cerca
del Palacio Real, verlo,
hacer
fotos,
y
contemplar
el
cambio de guardia. Después de terminar la visita nos dirigimos hacia la Puerta del Sol, para buscar un sitio donde poder comer, pero antes pasamos por el Mercado de San Miguel y por la Plaza Mayor. Una vez terminada la comida, nos reunimos todos 4

en la Puerta del Sol, para ir directos al museo del Prado, pasando por la Fuente de la Cibeles. Hicimos una visita rápida por todas las salas del museo, en las que vimos, entre tantos, obras de Goya y de Picasso (es imposible verlo de una sola pasada). Nos llevaron al Retiro donde tuvimos una hora para ver todos sus paisajes. Y de nuevo al autobús de vuelta a Cuenca a las 19:30. At 8:00 in the morning we met at the hotel and we waited for the bus. It arrived at 8:30 so we caught it and we went to Madrid. We arrived at 10:30. First we went to Santiago Bernabeu where we had a few minutes to take photos. Then we caught the bus again and we got to the Real Palace which we visited from outside. To have lunch we looked for a restaurant, but before it, we visited the "Mercado de San Miguel" and the famous "Plaza Mayor". Then we went to ' Puerta del Sol' and we found Macdonald's so we decided to have lunch there. At 4 p.m. we went to the most imprtant museum of Spain 'Museo del Prado'. We visited some museum's rooms but it is imposible to see all of them. We saw a lot of portraits, landscapes and masterpieces by Goya y Velazques. We also went to the museum 'Reina Sofía' to see the famous painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso and we also saw some other incredible modernist and contemporary painters. Then we went to the Retiro, a big park where you can have a look at this beautiful place. At 19:30 the bus drove us back to Cuenca.

Lo primero que hemos hecho ha sido atravesar la Puerta Bisagra para dirigirnos a ver la Diputación, la Universidad, la plaza de Zocodove y por último el Museo de Santa Cruz. Hemos podido ver la estatua de Miguel de Cervantes, autor de una gran obra literaria como es El Don Quijote de la Mancha. Después hemos llegado al Alcázar de Toledo (de allí vimos una panoramica del rio Tajo y de la Academia Militar). Hemos recorrido las calles y hemos visto la Catedral y el Ayuntamiento. Hemos encontrado a un señor que nos ha acompañado para que vieramos como hacen el repujado de los objetos típicos de Toledo y hemos podido entrar a una tienda para comprar algún souvenir. Posteriormente hemos visitado el barrio judío y la Sinagoga (para nosotros, los alumnos italianos, era la primera vez que veiamos una). Hemos comido en el comedor de la Universidad

tiempo libre hasta las cinco y media que hemos vuelto de nuevo hacia Cuenca. Today 28th April, we have been to Toledo. We left Cuenca at 8.30 a.m. by bus and we got to Toledo at 11.00 am. The first thing we did was to pass by Puerta Bisagra and reach the historic centre by the escalator. We passed by the City Hall, the University and we got to Zocodove square. Then walking to the museum of Santa Cruz we saw the statue of Miguel de Cervantes, the author of a famous literary work: “Don Quijote de la Mancha”. After 6

that we got to the famous fortress the Alcázar de Toledo (from there we saw a fantastic view of the Tajo river and the Military Academy). We strolled around the small streets of the city and we reached the Ayuntamiento Plaza with its amazing Cathedral and the Ayuntamiento Palace. We met a man who took us to see some craftsmen producing the typical objects of Toledo and we could enter a shop to buy some souvenirs. Then we visited the Jew area and its Sinagogue. It was the first time we saw a temple like that and it was really interesting and surprising. We ate in the University canteen and we got some free time to go around the shops. At 5.30 p.m. we left Toledo and went back to Cuenca. It was a great day!
Visit to the mayor/ Visita al alcalde/ Visita al sindaco/ Esta mañana hemos visitado el Ayuntamiento de Cuenca donde nos ha recibido el alcalde de la ciudad y nos ha dedicado unas palabras. Nos ha comentado aspectos relevantes de la ciudad y sus costumbres. Ha sido interesante. This morning we have visited the town hall of Cuenca where we were received by the Mayor of the city who has talked with us a few words. We discussed important aspects of the city and its customs. It was interesting. 7

Questa mattina abbiamo visitato il Comune di Cuenca dove ci ha ricevuto il sindaco che ci ha dedicato una buona attenzione. Ci ha spiegato usi e costumi della citta' di Cuenca de e' stato molto interessante.

ciencias/ Laboratorio di robotica nel museo delle scienze La misma mañana hemos ido al Museo De Las Ciencias de Cuenca, para asistir a un taller de Robótica.Según nos ha comentado el responsable del taller, este se viene haciendo desde hace unos años con notable éxito entre los alumnos españoles. El taller se imparte con el modelo de Lego Mindstorm EV3, el mismo que tiene el Instituto que nos acoge, el Santiago Grisolía.Nos hemos distribuido en cinco grupos y a cada grupo se nos ha dejado un ordenador portátil, donde esta la aplicación necesaria para la programación, y una maqueta lego ya montada. El profesor nos ha dado unas nociones sobre la aplicación Lego, y al poco rato ya estábamos programando las funciones que proponía. Hemos controlado los motores de la maqueta por medio de los sensores disponibles en la maqueta como el de tacto, el giro sensor, el ultrasónico y el de color. Al acabar hemos sido capaces de hacer que nuestra maqueta circulase dibujando un cuadrado. Ha sido una gran experiencia. Después de esto, hasta la hora de comer, hemos asistido a una sesion del Planetario del museo. 8

Successivamente siamo andati al Museo della Scienza di Cuenca, per partecipare a un workshop di Robotica. Il responsabile del laboratorio ci ha detto che i ragazzi spagnoli lo stanno seguendo da alcuni anni con buoni risultati. Nel workshop si utilizza il modelo di Lego Mindstorm EV3, lo stesso che utilizza l'istituto che ci riceve, il Santiago Grisolia. Ci siamo divisi in 4 gruppi
e
ognuno
aveva il suo computer portatile
con
l'applicazione necessaria
per
programmare i robot. Il professore ci ha dato
delle
informazioni
sulle
applicazioni Lego e in poco tempo gia' stavamo programmando le funzioni che ci venivano proposte. Abbiamo fatto muovere il robot attraverso tutti i sensori possibili: quello tattile, il giroscopio, l'ultrasonico e quello di colore. Alla fine siamo stati in grado di far fare un quadrato al nostro robot. E' stata una grande esperienza. Successivamente abbiamo assistino a una lezione nel planetario. After we went to the Science Museum of Cuenca, to attend a workshop of Robotics. The laboratory manager told us that the Spanish boys have been following him for several years with good results. The workshop uses the model of Lego Mindstorm EV3, the same that is using the institute Santiago Grisolía where we are hosted.

We were divided into 4 groups and each had his laptop with the application required to move the robot. The professor gave us information about the Lego applications and in a short time we were already programming the functions that we had been taught. We did move the robot through all possible sensors: tactile, the gyroscope, the ultrasonic and that of colour. We were finally able to make our robot design a square. It was a great experience. We then assist a lesson and a show in the planetarium

Ciudad
Encantada/
Giornata alla Ciudad Encantada/ Día en la Ciudad Encantada Giovedì 30 aprile dopo aver trascorso un’ora a scuola dove abbiamo frequentato le lezioni nella classe dei ragazzi ospitanti, in pullman siamo andati a visitare la riserva naturale “Ciudad Encantada”. Ci hanno accompagnato due docenti spagnoli, in particolare il docente di educazione fisica che è stato la nostra guida all’interno del parco. La Ciudad Encantada è un sito naturale di interesse nazionale “de la serrania de Cuenca” ed è un sito di interesse geologico di rilevanza internazionale. La guida ci ha invitato rispettare alcune regole come non raccoglie nessun frammento roccioso, nessun fiore, non gettare carte e seguire sempre le indicazioni del percorso. L’attrattiva del parco è la presenza di rocce calcaree che a causa dell’erosione hanno assunto forme particolari: alcune sembravano animali come l’orso, la tartaruga, il cane, la foca, l’elefante, il coccodrillo, altre sembravano due amanti “los amantes de Teruel”, alcune rocce ricordavano un ponte romano, un convento, delle barche. Durante il percorso abbiamo attraversato un canyon e passeggiato su un mare di pietra. Qui è presente una roccia chiamata “El Tomo Alto”, uno dei simboli di Cuenca. La giornata è stata molto piacevole ed allegra, facilitata da un clima mite e soleggiato. Abbiamo giocato tra le varie forme rocciose, abbiamo esplorato grotte e angoli particolari, abbiamo imitato il verso degli animali selvatici inoltre abbiamo fatto molte foto e ci saremmo fermati volentieri, ma il pullman ci aspettava per portarci a vedere la “Ventana del Diablo”, la finestra del diavolo, una formazione rocciosa a picco sul rio Jucar, dove un gruppo di ragazzi

stava facendo canyoning. Infine ci siamo fermati ad un ristorante tipico della zona dove abbiamo potuto assaggiare piatti tipici di Cuenca. El jueves, 30 de abril después de pasar una hora en la escuela donde asistimos a clases de los chicos que nos han hospedado, en bus fuimos a visitar la reserva natural "Ciudad Encantada". Nos han acompañado dos profesores españoles, en particular el profesor de educación física ha sido nuestro guía en el parque. La Ciudad Encantada es un
sitio
de
interés
nacional de la “Serranía de Cuenca” y es un sitio geológico de importancia internacional. El guía nos invitó a observar algunas reglas como no recoger ningún fragmento
rocoso,
ninguna flor, no mover las tarjetas y seguir siempre las indicaciones de la ruta. La atracción del parque es la presencia de rocas calizas que debido a la erosión han tomado formas particulares de algunos animales como el oso, la tortuga, el perro, los elefantes marinos, el cocodrilo. Otras rocas parecen como dos amantes “los amantes de Teruel”, o un puente romano, un convento, un barco, también en el camino pasamos por un cañón y caminamos en 12

un mar de piedra. Aquí hay una roca llamada "El Tomo Alto", uno de los símbolos de Cuenca. El día fue muy agradable y alegre, facilitado por un clima suave y soleado. Jugamos entre las formas rocosas, hemos explorado cuevas y rincones especiales, imitamos el grito de los animales salvajes también hicimos muchas fotos , pero esperamos el autobús para llevarnos a ver el "ser del Diablo, ventana del diablo”, una formación rocosa con vistas al rio Jucar, donde un grupo de muchachos estaba haciendo piraguismo. Finalmente nos paramos en un restaurante local donde degustamos platos típicos de Cuenca.
Thursday, April 30th, after spending an hour at school where we attended lectures in the classrooms of our hosts, we went to visit the natural reserve called "Ciudad Encantada".

Two Spanish teachers accompanied us, specifically the P.E. teacher was our guide in the Park. The Ciudad Encantada is a site of national interest "de la serrania de Cuenca” and is a geological site of international importance. The Guide invited us to observe some rules as not to collect any Rocky fragment, any flowers, not throw rubbish and always follow the directions of the route. The attraction of the Park is the presence of limestone rocks that due to erosion have taken particular forms: some looked like a bear, a turtle, a dog, a crocodile, others looked like two lovers, some rocks resembled a Roman bridge, a convent, a boat. And along the way we passed through a canyon and hiked on a sea of stones. Here there is a rock called "El Tomo Alto", one of the symbols of Cuenca. The day was very pleasant and cheerful, facilitated by a mild and sunny climate. We played among the Rocky shapes, we explored caves and special corners, we imitated the cry of the wild animals we also took many photos and we stopped willingly, then we waited for the bus to take us to the " the Devil's window”, a rock formation overlooking the rio Jucar, where a group of guys were canyoning.
