This autumn I’m delighted to announce an extremely strong programme of Scottish work and a great variety too: new plays and classics alongside family entertainment. The main Tron Theatre Company production is a collaboration with Horsecross Arts (Perth Theatre) of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, with a superb cast of ten actors and directed by the awardwinning Rachel O’Riordan. Amongst the new work, Actors Touring Company present David Grieg’s The Events, which focuses on a tragedy at a choir practice, with local choirs on stage every night; and high on the Richter scale of enjoyment, the hugely popular children’s show Hairy Maclary comes to the main stage over the September weekend. We also see the return of the sell-out hit The Maw Broon Monologues starring Terry Neason and Suzanne Bonner in a specially updated version by Jackie Kay for Glasgay!’s 20th anniversary. We open the season with a revival of a modern Scottish classic, The Collection by Mike Cullen and we are also proud to present two awardwinning productions, The List starring Maureen Beattie, and The Tailor of Inverness, Matthew Zajac’s moving story of survival in war-torn Europe. We round off the season, as ever, with the now legendary Tron panto. This year it’s Peter Panto and the Incredible Stinkerbell written by Johnny McKnight. In our intimate Changing House space we have a brilliant range of new and high calibre productions and again finish off the season with our Christmas show for the very young, Remember December. Finally, we’re delighted to present a week of new writing and works in progress by talented emergent Scottish writers and theatre makers and curated by Julia Taudevin, who is currently working with us as Artistic Associate; and to announce that we have been awarded funding to present our Home Nations Programme with Scotland’s Makar at its centre during Games Time. Curated by Liz Lochhead, the programme will include dramatic interpretations of work from some of the UK and Northern Ireland’s finest poets including Dylan Thomas, Seamus Heaney, Carol-Anne Duffy and Edwin Morgan. If that isn’t enough to entice you, we also have a brilliant new Tron Bar + Kitchen menu. I hope to see you down here!

WARNING: CONTAINS SCENES OF NUDITY AND VIOLENCE

‘...this is as beautifully spoken and elegantly produced a Shakespeare as has been seen...’

★★★★ THE GUARDIAN ON RACHEL O’RIORDAN’S MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

DESIGNED BY KENNY MILLER Emerging bloodied from the battlefield, victorious generals Macbeth and Banquo witness a prophecy of three witches: Macbeth will sit on Scotland’s throne. A dark seed of ambition has been planted, and with King Duncan feasting under their roof, Macbeth and his wife draw their daggers and take fate into their own hands. A king is murdered, a crown seized and a vicious spiral of betrayal and bloody violence begins. Shakespeare’s shortest and most brutal tragedy of superstition and vaulting

ambition is a wild ride from power and glory to greed and treachery. In a ruthless struggle to secure control of a nation, Scotland becomes a battleground where trust, loyalty and truth are only the first victims. Director Rachel O’Riordan was nominated for a TMA award as Best Director for the Lyric Theatre, Belfast’s production of Much Ado About Nothing and won this year’s Critics’ Award for Theatre in Scotland for Best Director for Perth Theatre’s February 2013 production of The Seafarer.

Winner of a Herald Angel and Fringe First, The List, by the celebrated Québec dramatist Jennifer Tremblay, is a masterpiece in storytelling. Set in Québec, it is the award-winning story of a woman struggling to adjust to rural life. Increasingly isolated, she keeps life in order through obsessive list making. As her marriage struggles she befriends Caroline. When Caroline requests a favour she adds it to her list. CREATED BY JOE DOUGLAS + GARETH NICHOLLS

BY JULES HORNE

In 2002, Joe went on a gap year trip to Uganda. Amidst the six week blur of safaris, white-water rafting and orphanages, Joe made friends with Ronnie... Ronnie was 16, Joe was 18. They were both the eldest sons of large families. They both supported Man United. Six months later, back home, Joe got a text: “Brother my sponsor has pulled out on me and I want to stay in school. Can you help? Ronnie x”

Come roll your dice at the church hall beetle drive and share Joan, William and Izzy’s tangled lives. Friends since primary school and closer-than-close ever since, identities stitched together as intricately as their homemade party clothes. Living in the secure but suffocating embrace of a 1950s Scottish seaside community, who gets to become the person they want to be?

Thread explores the choices we make and who we become when our memories start to fade.

An astonishing true story performed by Joe himself, Educating Ronnie takes place over a decade: 4000 miles apart and thousands of pounds invested, it explores the murky processes behind bettering oneself in Uganda.
