arrowtown village association news annual survey

The AVA is currently conducting their community survey. This is the third year we have conducted the survey and it has proved a useful tool to help understand who is engaged with our work and what the main areas of concern are for Arrowtown. You can complete the survey at; www.surveymonkey.com/r/AVA2024 Understanding the key priorities for Arrowtown helps us focus meeting discussions, share relevant news, build engagement and reinforcing submissions to council. Last year we also ran two large community meetings off the back of strong community sentiment around tree management and urban intensification. This year we are also looking for input on proposed changes to our membership structure that would involve annual sign up and a voluntary donation to help with ongoing expenses and costs associated with these community meetings. This is an important opportunity to engage and let us know their thoughts, so please do complete the survey! queenstown trail

If you’ve been down to the river reserve recently, you will have noticed the Queenstown Trail has been realigned to follow Bush Creek. This is work was initiated by the AVA and APBA with the support of Queenstown Trails Trust and QLDC to improve safety, redirecting the trail away from entering/exiting the car parks at the Chinese Settlement and overflow area off Ramshaw Lane car cark. This is a huge step towards not only greater safety but also ongoing improvements to the amenity value of the area. – Nick Fifield, Chairperson

arrowtown school report

It has been a wonderful start to the year for Arrowtown school. We have welcomed three new staff members and a number of new families at our Mihi Maioha at the start of the year (see picture below). New staff are Terry Maloney teaching year 7&8, Jess Ruthe as office administrator and Geoff Martin as caretaker. We start our education outside the classroom programme with trips to Dunedin museum for year 5&6 classes and trips to Bannockburn for year 8's and Riverton for year 7's over the next two weeks. We have also started specialist science classes across the school. We started the year with a slightly smaller school roll than 2023, we have an average class size of 23 students, which is fantastic.
