arrowtown village association news Get Ready Arrowtown

The better prepared we are for a major emergency, the easier it will be to get through it. And with a major movement of the Alpine Fault overdue, the chances are that emergency will be a earthquake. We may be cut off by road. We could lose electricity and phones, and water supply and sewerage may not work. The Arrowtown Community Response Group (CRG) is working with QLDC and Emergency Management Otago to get ready. About the CRG

The Arrowtown CRG is a subgroup of the AVA formed in 2021. It aims to help Arrowtown prepare for an emergency and then be as self-sufficient as possible when (not if) it happens. The group has VHF radios and has secured funding for gear like generators, heaters and lighting equipment. When stood up by Emergency Management, the CRG will open a Community Emergency Hub. Community Emergency Hub

The hub at the community centre will be a place to exchange information. It will have comms with the Emergency Operations Centre in Frankton. Anyone can come for the latest updates, to ask for help or to offer to help others. Approved volunteers at the hub will have access to the Otago Gets Ready database to match needs and resources. What can you do? • Join the CRG: a bigger team allows a bigger response • Share your skills, resources and needs on otago.getsready.net

• Like the Get Ready Arrowtown page on Facebook • Read the Get Ready Arrowtown pamphlet which you should have received in your mailbox

REMINDER – The Arrowtown Village Association AGM is coming up. Thursday the 26th of October, 6pm at the Arrowtown Community Rooms (by the tennis courts). web arrowtownvillage.nz email chairperson@arrowtownvillage.nz FB @arrowtownvillage 4
