beech party Come and help the Arrowtown Choppers plant 3000 native Beech, Totara, and Ribbonwood on the slopes above Bush Creek, adding the 11,000 already planted there. The program's aim is to connect the remnant stands of Beech located above Bush Creek, along the Sawpit Gully track, and below Eichardts Flat, which in turn increases the biodiversity in and around Arrowtown. Once again, we will have 3000 pre-dug holes to make the planting family friendly. Meet 9am at the Chinese Village. This is a day for all age groups, families, and friends to help plant 3000 native trees and enhance the biodiversity of the Arrowtown area. Stay around after the plantings as we will have a complimentary BBQ, refreshments and kids prizes all provided by our generous group of sponsors. In addition to the Beech Party, the Arrowtown Choppers work closely with the Arrowtown Scout Group and Arrowtown Primary School to plant trees in Bush Creek as part of the Bush Creek Rejuvenation Project. Arrowtown School and Arrowtown Scouts will plant 1500 Kowhai, Olearia, Coprosma, Ribbonwood and Flax this Spring, adding to the 3000 trees planted in the area in the last 2 years. The Arrowtown Choppers will continue to work closely with these groups to expand on these plantings and promote the principles of Kaitiakitanga. Remember if you are out walking, hiking, or biking, please take time to stop and pull out a few wilding pine seedlings. If you would like more information about our chopping evenings, then email: info@ arrowtownchoppers.co.nz, and we will forward you our chopping timetable. 3

arrowtown village association news urban Intensification review - submissions open

Arrowtown residents have until 21st September to have their say on proposed changes to building heights in parts of the Village. Responding to the Central Government’s national policy statement for urban development, QLDC are proposing a new height limit that could apply to 266 medium density-zone properties in Arrowtown. The changes would mean a building could be built up to 12m high with little or any setback from a property boundary. Obviously having 3-4 story buildings in established parts of town could result in little to no sunlight from existing housing during the winter months. Also a lot more residents to cater for in terms of infrastructure and services. If you would like to have your say please complete a submission from on the QLDC website and email pdpsubmission@qldc.govt.nz

THANK YOU from arrowtown charitable trust The Arrowtown Charitable Trust (ACT) was initiated by the APBA in 2011. Its aim was to set up and progress environmental heritage and lighting projects - to highlight and preserve the current historic status of Arrowtown for the benefit of New Zealand’s future generations. Over the last decade they have been responsible for creation of a Lighting Masterplan for Arrowtown historic zone. It was undertaken to ensure Arrowtown's heritage buildings, as well as pathways and verges around the town centre were adequately lit. They are also responsible for maintaining the historic old Police Hut down by Butlers Green, ensuring that Arrowtown's oldest building remains around for future generations. This wouldn't be possible without the generous support from local businesses, in particular Fallproof Scaffolding, Tansley Electrical and Builders.co.nz who consistently provide very generous donations and time to Arrowtown's community projects that ACT undertake and the Trustee would like to extend a warm heartfelt thank you to them especially.

• All aspects of tree maintenance • Tree removals – Dismantling & felling • Hedge trimming – large & small • Wood splitter hire

arrowtown business news Most Beautiful Small Town

Last week Arrowtown was once again named as a finalist in the prestigious "Most Beautiful Small Town" category of the Keep New Zealand Beautiful's annual awards. The Keep New Zealand Beautiful's Most Beautiful Towns and Cities awards, a tradition dating back to 1972, shine a spotlight on urban areas across the country that have demonstrated exceptional dedication to enhancing their environment. Arrowtown, which we know is renowned for its historical charm and modern vibrancy, proudly received the "Most Beautiful Small Town" award in 2020. Now, in 2023, it has been named a finalist in both the "Most Beautiful Small Town" and "Best Street" for Buckingham Street, categories. Winners will be announced on 9th November, which also falls on the same day of the NZEA awards that named Matariki Arrowtown Lights as finalist for the Best Not for Profit Community Event for over 3000 people.
