Remarkable Theatre and Arrowtown Lifestyle Village are pleased to be bringing the long awaited play Gone to Seed to Arrowtown this September. Hilarity evolves when an ageing gardening club needs to fundraise to pay the rent. The Reverend landlord is surprised how quickly the payments come in and thinks the club are up to untoward activities and so hires a bumbling detective.Despite the usual trials and tribulations of clubs and committees, their friendship and passion for all things green make for a highly entertaining show. A perfect night to get work groups or friends together to enjoy the comedy. Or try our matinee on Sunday afternoon. Originally forecast for 2021 Remarkable Theatre are heartened to bring two new actresses to the stage for the 2022 production. Athole Harvey and Shirley Armitage join the fabulous cast of Mike Legge, Phena Byrne, Cheryl Collie, Greg Dorn, Marty Bell, Rachel Rose and David Cantwell. Remarkable Theatre know you'll love this play written by Tim Hambleton and directored by Lisa Clough. Definitely one to see Gone to Seed is heartwarming and hilarious. Get your tickets on Eventfinda now to see this award winning play. 8-17 September, Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall.

wood-burner emission study

For many, if not most, of us it’s been a long winter and we’re looking forward to some sunny days in Spring. A group of seven households in Arrowtown made good use of a week of wintry weather when they participated in an ORC-led study to assess the actual efficiency of ultra-low-emission wood-burners in our Arrowtown conditions.

ORC scientist, Sarah Harrison, wishes to express her gratitude to these owners of the latest in wood-burning technology for permitting ORC to insert a filter in their flues and also for weighing the amount of firewood used and giving a technician access to measure the emissions each day. The results of the study will be analyzed and made known within a few months and will help homeowners to choose the most appropriate burners for the Arrowtown climate.

As an advocate for using public transport, AVA commends those hardy Arrowtowners who have been persisting with Orbus travel to and from work. We know it’s been tough on those cold mornings when you have had to wait a very long time for your commutes due to Covid and winter flu disruptions causing driver shortages. Hopefully as we get through winter bus schedules will get back to normal! pump track

James Shaw James, Jim, or Jimmy Shaw sadly passed away last month. A final alarm call was raised as Jimmy passed by a full guard of honour at the Arrowtown Fire Station on his final ride on Flick, from the Service at the Athenaeum Hall on 21st July. Jimmy was a huge part of the Arrowtown community & is tightly woven into its fabric. A mechanic at Shaw's Garage, which was started by his Grandfather James Shaw, to more recently knocking on doors checking smoke alarms or on his trusty lawnmower, he was forever keeping the town safe and Histidy.biggest love though was being a firefighter, joining Arrowtown Volunteer Fire Brigade on the 6th of June 1967 aged 20. He was appointed to the position of Chief Fire Officer just 2 years later in 1969, holding this position until 1995. Since then Jimmy has maintained an active position of Senior Firefighter for 55 years. Jimmy was a true ‘Arrowtowner’. A life dedicated to family, friends, community, making a wee difference and having a good laugh. RIP Jimmy

The APBA is different than the Arrowtown Village Association web arrowtown.com FB @arrowtown email info@arrowtown.com (AVA) as it businessrepresentspurelyhowever we work very closely with these community groups as there is a lot of cross over. The APBA supports the predator control, native planting, wilding pine eradiation, street planting and the historical lighting

If you would like to be more actively informed in the APBA, have you considered joining our Board? This is run by a dedicated group of 12 volunteers, representing a cross section of Arrowtown businesses. This takes place at our AGM, this year it is on Monday 29th August at 5.30pm at Arrowtown Hall. Nominations must be received prior and can be emailed to us. This year we are also excited to announce that we will have a “Meet the Mayoral Candidates” event following on from our AGM from 6.30-7.30pm at Arrowtown Hall. Everyone welcome.

what is the APBA?

The APBA are responsible for the official Arrowtown guide you will see on our main street, which we also distribute around the S. Island on your behalf and you will be contacted shortly should you wish to be included for next year (Dec 22 – Dec 23). We also produce the annual Arrowtown calendar, using winners of previous photo competitions and they’re available to purchase.

Theproject.APBA is funded by a portion of the QLDC commercial rates, representing retail, activity, accommodation, professional service industry and hospitality. the board /AGM

arrowtown business news

Do you know what the Arrowtown Promotion & Business Association (APBA) is? It’s the organization some locals don’t see but is an economic driver as well as an advocate for the heritage and environment of the town. The APBA works for the businesses promoting the town, events and lobbying for solutions to parking, traffic, waste, in fact anything to do with the CBD. The APBA is over 30 years old but it created the “Where History Meets Nature” brand almost 8 years ago which reflects the town’s gold mining past and the beautiful environment around the town, working closely with Mahu Whenua and Tohu Whenua, our stunning backcountry environment where Arrowtown sits.
