show postponed Remarkable Theatre are very sad to announce that we have decided to postpone this year’s Gone to Seed production until September 2022. We investigated staging the production later in 2021, but unfortunately it wasn’t a viable option. We hope that by waiting a year things will have settled. All Eventfinda tickets will be cancelled by Eventfinda and refunded directly onto the same credit card used during ticket purchase. Thank you to everyone who supported our show, we appreciate you! We look forward to performing this fabulously funny play to full audiences in 2022!

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori Arrowtown School have embraced the chance to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week. The younger children, in years 1 and 2 are greeting each other in Te Reo, asking and answering what day it is, and how they feel. they are singing waiata and performing new kanikani, as well as having themed coloured dress ups. Year 3 and 4 are learning the song, 'Pepeha' by SIX60 and 'Purerehua' – a beautiful song about the lifecycle of a butterfly. They are saying the day and date in te reo and also greetings. The children in years 5 and 6 are learning a wider range of language - days, greetings, songs, instructions, and they are also naming things in the classroom. Year 7 and 8 children are sharing how they are feeling as well as competing in the competition on Education Perfect (a national, all schools, free access competition where students and kura (schools) compete against each other by earning points from completing selected activities drawn from their Te Ao Māori content), they are covering Pōwhiri, Mihimihi and Whakataukī. Also, the Kapa Haka group embrace the opportunity to showcase and express their understanding and their passion for the Maori Performing Arts. They work very hard under the guidance of their enthusiastic Kaiako (teacher) to deliver polished performances at cultural events around the region all the while sharing a celebration of Māori culture and traditions. You will have the chance to see the group at The Arrowtown School Hāngī and Kapa Haka Fundraiser Event, on Saturday the 13th of November. Māori Language Week has been celebrated every year since 1975. It commemorates the presentation of the 1972 Māori language petition to parliament. 3

arrowtown village association news planning for affordable housing qldc

Ensuring the affordability of housing in Arrowtown, and the diversity of the village’s population are two key objectives in Arrowtown’s 2017 guiding document “Shaping our Future Arrowtown Community Visioning Report”. Shaping our Future (2017) recommends that: “House/living affordability and the need to have a mixed diverse community is vital for the ongoing success of Arrowtown.” QLDC are currently calling for feedback on Inclusionary Zoning a process which enables Planning for Affordable Housing, and the AVA encourages residents to voice their opinion before 26th September. Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust’s Julie Scott says new inclusionary zoning provisions in the district plan are necessary to continue their work. “The Housing Trust has had the ability to build great affordable housing like our Suffolk St development and our impending Tewa Banks project at Jopp St. These processes have enabled us to assist hundreds of locals into warm, dry affordable housing.” “Arrowtown is a special place, but we need more affordable housing here to ensure we have a strong and diverse community.” To ensure a mixed diverse community in both Arrowtown and the wider Whakatipu, AVA endorses affordable housing. Many individuals and families who are committed and positively contributing to the area have difficulty in finding suitable housing. AVA believes it is important that we do what we can to support those people to stay in the Whakatipu. AVA encourages residents to give their view by completing a short submission by 5pm Sunday 26th September Submit online at: www.letstalk.qldc.govt.nz Project: Planning for Affordable Housing Email to homes@qldc.govt.nz Or mail to: Planning for Affordable Housing Feedback, QLDC, Private Bag 50072, Queenstown 934 AVA – Annual General Meeting Thursday 28 October 7:30pm Community (Tennis) Rooms – All welcome web arrowtownvillage.nz email chairperson@arrowtownvillage.nz FB @arrowtownvillage 4

fingers and toes crossed We are officially into Spring, although the weather lately might make you think otherwise. The show committee have their fingers and toes crossed hoping that we are at Level 1 by Flower Show time. Last year we just squeaked in, and it was a fabulous show, which was incredibly well supported. This year we will welcome back our wonderful regular supporters, but we would love to see some new contributors. There are lots of new people in town, so either bring along something to show (entries to be brought to the Arrowtown Hall-Thursday 30th 1-9pm) or come to the show Friday the 1st 1-5pm. We are a friendly bunch and it's easy to enter. You can enter flowers, plants, floral displays, crafts and baking. There is a section for children as well, (Arrowtown junior school do their entries at school.) There are also some great plant and craft stalls. This is the 98th year of this wonderful community event, come along and be part of it. Pick up a schedule at the Lakes District Museum or email Wendy Clarke wendy.clarke@arrowtown.school.nz Presentation of Trophies and Prizes – Friday at 2.30pm. (If we don't reach Level 1 by this date, we will be forced to cancel the show.)
