beech party The chance to enhance the biodiversity of the Arrowtown area is not to be missed. Sunday the 18th of April is Arrowtown’s “Beech Party”. What a thrill it will be in years to come, to look at the slopes above Bush Creek and know that you had a small part in how it looks. Come one, come all, you are invited to join in being part of the team of 150, helping to plant Beech, Totara and Ribbonwood on the slopes above Bush Creek. Come with tools if you have them and the appropriate clothing and footwear. Meet at the Chinese Village at 10 am. Bring a drink bottle and something to keep you sustained. There are complimentary refreshments and prizes for the kids, after the planting, at Postmasters Cottage Café.

rozzie and the orchestra Queenstown based 'Turn Up The Music Charitable Trust', together with the Callis Trust is bringing 'Rozzie and The Orchestra' to Arrowtown. Written and choreographed by Rozzie (Rosalind Manowitz), this concert provides children with a purely magical opportunity to experience and explore the joys of music in an interactive and educational way. It has been proven that music can have an impact on a child’s development, improve their social skills, and all the while benefiting children of all ages. The fun and energy that Rozzie brings will inspire children to join in and experience the fantastic world of music. Simply put, music can bring us joy. 'Rozzie and The Orchestra' was on the cover of the Loop last year in March, but due to Lockdown both that issue and the concert were cancelled. Now Rozzie is back with 3 concerts at the Athenaeum Hall in Arrowtown, on Sunday 28 March at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Rozzie (as seen on TVNZ 2 CODE FUN) Tickets are only $5 per family from eventfinda.co.nz. An entire family fun time that will educate, entertain, and open your eyes to the world of music. 3

let’s help let’s eat! six item challenge The six-item challenge consists of participants limiting their wardrobe for a month to just six items. The idea is to resurrect, refurbish and reuse those six items without buying new ones or replacing them for a month. Wastebusters event organizer, Abbey Lewis, stated that, “The first Six Items Challenge had been embraced by the people of Central Otago”. You can wear unlimited accessories in the Six Items challenge, as shown here by The thinking behind the challenge is Wastebusters staff. to limit fashion waste. To encourage people to look at what they have in their wardrobe and how they can use and improve the way they think about clothes. Globally, dumping used clothing is an enormous issue. Experts tell us that 150 billion items of clothing are produced each year for a population of 7.8 billion. Over 200,000 tonnes of waste each year and that is in New Zealand alone! let’s eat! knowhelp yourlet’s local Russell was brought up on the family farm in the Stoneburn area of East Otago. He attended Waitaki Boys High School and after 3 years of farm work in Clinton went to Lincoln College where he completed a Diploma of Agriculture. It was here at Lincoln that he met his future wife Denise. In 1969 he moved to Balfour in Northern Southland and farmed sheep and cattle in partnership with his brother until 1979, at which time the partnership was dissolved, and Russell moved with his family to a farm on the Pigroot. In 1970 Russell married Denise who was a high school teacher, and together they had 3 daughters. During his time in East- Otago Russell served several terms on the Waitaki District Council and was also involved with several other small country organisations. In 2010 Russell retired from farming and with Denise retiring from teaching, they moved to Arrowtown. They had both spent many years holidaying in Arrowtown as both families owned holiday houses in Arrowtown from the late 1950’s. Since retirement Russell has been involved with both the Arrowtown

Bowling Club and the Lakes District Museum. Apart from that – he had always had an interest in establishing a Menzshed and has been fortunate enough to play an instrumental part in the establishment of one in the Arrowtown Camping Ground. It took a highly active committee nearly 5 years to achieve and it is now well supported by the community. These days Russell is known as the “Wasp Man”, which is something he was talked into by a well-known local identity – the late Lex Perkins. According to Russell this year has seen a big increase in wasp activity after what has been 2 relatively quiet seasons. This just adds to Russell’s busy life, but he would not have it any other way.
