Entry for cars and people is by gold coin donation and is designed to be a real community event with entertainment for everyone. dive into summer Arrowtown Memorial Pool opens for another fun-packed season on 30 November. The water is already up to its target temperature of 27 degrees, thanks to the new LPG heating system installed last year. QLDC Sport & Recreation’s pool crew said it’s planning even more events, inflatables, toys and pool parties for the community to enjoy over the summer, and regulars will also notice that the changing rooms have had a fresh lick of paint. Normal opening hours are 11 am–6 pm every day, except for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve when the pool will close at 5 pm, and Christmas Day and New Year’s Day when it will be closed all day. Joining Arrowtown Swimming Club is a great way to make the most of the season. It’s hosting a registration day on Saturday 5 December when you can head down for a fun swim, sausage sizzle and meet the committee to find out more. Did you know the pool also has its own Instagram page? You can keep track of what’s happening through the season @arrowtown_ memorial_pool. A full list of prices, including great value season passes, and a daily timetable showing group/ club bookings and which lanes are reserved for public swimming are available on the QLDC website www.qldc.govt.nz/recreation/swim WIN a family season pass (rrp $100)! Email thelooparrowtown@gmail.com to go in the draw. 3

let’s helpgold let’sstar eat!for arrowtown another The Arrowtown Volunteer Fire Brigade had their honours evening earlier this month where Mark Woodman received his 25 year Gold Star. Mark and his wife Stefanee have always loved being involved in the community. When they first came to the town in 1983 they did a St John's Ambulance Service shift together once a week for a couple of years, then Mark joined the Arrowtown fire brigade in 1989, just before the birth of their first son Tom. To quote Mark : "It's a good brigade to join, and a great local service to belong to". Mark has served the brigade for 31 years in total now and was the Chief Fire Officer from 2010 – 2014. He was joined by most of his family for the evening and for the medal ceremony, Lucy their daughter in Dubai and Mark's cousins in OZ watched on zoom, making it even more special for them. Mark said, "It was a really nice night, good to be appreciated by the brigade" he wanted to thank his family, Stefanee, Tom and Lucy for, "putting up with him being in the brigade". The Arrowtown Fire Brigade have produced 15 members with 25 year gold stars, of which 5 are still acting members, as is Jim Shaw 50 year gold star member. A big thank you goes out to all the members of AVFB, and their FENZ partners St Johns Ambulance Service for the great work they do within our SPECIALISES IN: community. tewa banks project The masterplan is now more or less finalised, although there may be some further tweaks to this and house concepts as we progress. We are working through the treatment of the boundary with the Arrowtown Golf Club (AGC) to ensure we mitigate any potential ball strike zones for the properties on the eastern boundary, and provide legal protection for the AGC through non-objection covenants on QLCHT’s land. The AGC will take all suitable fill from the Tewa Banks site for mounding on the golf course. We are currently finalising the stormwater treatment requirements and roading design, with a view to commencing civil works in early 2021. We’re delighted to be able to support the Arrowtown Choppers Group by providing space on a large reserve proposed within our development for their Community Nursery – we are strong supporters of this noteworthy community project. We have received a high level of interest from our waiting list for this development, and look forward to offering a range of tenure options including Public Housing Rentals, Affordable Rentals, Rent-to-buy, Assisted Ownership (our leasehold programme, Secure Home) and Senior Housing. Our current waiting list stands at over 630 households.

repair revolution is coming to queenstown Following the success of our Wanaka, Hawea and Alexandra events, Wastebusters is bringing the Repair Revolution to Queenstown on Saturday 28 November, 10 am–2 pm, at the Queenstown Events Centre. A team of amazing volunteer fixers will give advice and help with repairs on all kinds of things. So far we have repairers confirmed for the following items: clothing/ textiles, bikes, furniture, toys and small appliances. Organiser, Abbey Lewis, said “People have been stoked at our last events to get nearly brand new ski jackets fixed, zips repaired, school uniforms patched up

What do you want for the future of your waterways? Come to our workshop on 26 November 12:30-2pm Arrowtown Bowling Club 6 Hertford St or go online at www.orc.govt.nz/ OurWaterOurVision 12

and even mouseholes in a formal dress embroidered over. “If you’ve got a favourite piece of clothing which needs some love, bring it along and our experienced sewers will make it even better than new.” Abbey said broken appliances were also a popular fix. “We’re really excited to have an electrician along to tackle toasters, kettles, and anything else with a plug. So long as you can carry it by yourself, bring it down and we’ll see what we can do.” Some repair jobs may not be able to be done on the day but you will leave with advice and knowledge about where to get them repaired. Abbey encouraged Arrowtown residents to dig out anything that needs repair, and talk to family and friends to see if they’d like to carpool down to the Queenstown Events Centre on Saturday. More volunteer fixers are always welcome too, sign up at the Wastebusters website www.wastebusters.co.nz More details are up on the Wastebusters Facebook event and website, including more detail on what can be repaired, remember to bring any parts that you think you might need!
