surtitles™* SURTITLES™ are translated or transcribed lyrics or dialogue projected on a screen above the stage. This technology allows us to project an English translation of the play on a screen above the set. The projections are done simultaneously which means that English-speaking audience members can enjoy French theatre… in English!

The TNO is proud to offer English-language SURTITLES™ on select shows and times. With this technology, the TNO, which has been presenting award winning French-language live theatre for 45 years, can now offer its performances to a wider audience of theatre enthusiasts. It’s a unique experience you won’t want to miss!

The SURTITLES™ screen location can vary from one show to the next depending on sets and lights. We avoid casting a huge shadow on stage or on the actors. Once the screen’s location has been determined, TNO staff will identify the best seating area for SURTITLES™ patrons. Because sooner or later, curiosity will get the best of you! *SURTITLES™ were invented by the Canadian Opera Company in 1983 and introduced globally with their production of Elektra by Richard Strauss.

They’re true believers, part of a “blended” family. They share a lifestyle as well as a passion for all things coffee. For them, working for Starshit is more than a part-time job; it’s a privilege. In this satire of corporate commitment, these devoted followers and standard bearers will introduce you to their irreverent workplace. Because sooner or later, performance is as important as product.

“Why do you think your family is good enough to adopt a child?” For this foul-mouthed, beer guzzling, somewhat educated couple, the answer to that question is self-evident. Because whatever you may think of them, this husband and wife duo is truly in love. See F**king Carl and go beyond the stereotypes. Because sooner or later, you learn how to see what is invisible. Warning: coarse language.

When someone leaves and you lose sight of yourself, how can you regain your sense of wellbeing? How can you put the pieces back together again, find your way through the chaos and deal with that loss daily? Based on Brigitte Haentjens’ poetic tale d’éclats de peines, Miriam Cusson seeks answers to those questions with the help of Robert Dickson’s poems, as well as the poet himself. Because sooner or later, we’ll have to figure out where we came from.

While standing in line at an IKEA, he asks her if she would like to conceive a child with him. This thirtysomething couple will analyse the situation and ask itself all the vital questions: what about the eco-footprint of bringing more people into the world? And the state of the global economy? What about the couple’s own desires, needs, strengths and love? This play is all about the bittersweet hazards of living together. Because sooner or later, our biological clock will go off, taking our sanity with it.

eaux [streams] For children 6 months to 4 years old 30 minutes without intermission Saturday April 21 2018, 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. As she stands on the beach, the dancer is drawn to the sea by whale songs. She is carried offshore towards an underwater world where language is made up of light, sounds and movements. This production is a savvy blend of dance, bass music and theatre. It takes children on a cozy, sensory, lyrical voyage of discovery. Because sooner or later, discovery becomes poetry.

THE MENU A jazzed-up culinary evening! Attend a private cocktail party with 100 other people before the concert. Sweets will be served at the end of the evening.

BENEFIT CONCERT French-inspired jazz and dance: Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario is proud to add Andrea Lindsay to its roster of great Canadian jazz performances. Born in Guelph (ON), young Andrea fell in love with French while working in France when she was 18 years old. Since then, she has produced four French-language albums, including her latest, Entre le jazz et la java. Her performance will include some of her favourite jazzed-up French and English songs, as well as jazz standards. Three talented jazz musicians will join Andrea on stage. Please attend Andrea Lindsay’s benefit concert, because sooner or later, music will move you. YOUR DONATION IN ACTION Funds raised during the evening will support endeavours such as: • Making French-language theatre more accessible to children through school and family matinees. • Introducing people to theatre thanks to the TNO’s annual community-based production (Mambo Italiano). • Involving upcoming artists and technicians in TNO projects. • Supporting new works from upcoming and established playwrights. • Backing TNO’s annual programming.

geneviève pineault I love being confronted with life experiences when I go to the theatre. As it happens, I experienced a magical moment while attending a theatrical performance last winter. There were about a hundred of us sitting in a theatre, holding our breaths, our hearts beating simultaneously, a tear hanging at the edge of our eyes. It was a scene in which actors and patrons came together. It was an amazing moment of connection that I will never forget. Our age, gender, personal histories didn’t matter because the show dealt with an issue we could all relate to. Because sooner or later, it will be our turn. This season’s productions also raise issues and present us with situations we’re either dealing, have dealt or will deal with. We’ll tackle them with laughter, compassion and tenderness. Because sooner or later, we recognize ourselves on stage. As the years have gone by, we’ve shared significant moments, goosebumps and giggles. I hope you will do so again this year and throughout our upcoming seasons! Thanks for your support!
