Recent Framework Awards

Royal Parks Building And Refurbishment Works Framework

Our appointment to The Royal Parks Agency Buildings & Refurbishment Works Framework will see Shaylor Group work across all eight of London’s iconic Royal Parks. Drawing on our specialist expertise, the framework includes projects covering sensitive heritage refurbishments, improvement works to existing facilities, upgrading of services and the provision of new buildings.

University of Worcester Construction And Refurbishment Framework Broadening our client base in the education sector, we have been appointed to the University of Worcester’s four year Construction and Refurbishment Framework. The framework will allow the upgrade of facilities throughout the University including halls of residence, staff offices and classroom facilities.

Western Power Distribution Construction Framework Building on our long-standing relationship with the respected electricity distribution network operator, Shaylor Group has been awarded a two year framework agreement to undertake small works across the Midlands. The framework will assist in the maintenance of depots across the region in accordance with Western Power Distribution’s corporate image.

Central England Co-operative Framework This two year agreement draws on our extensive retail experience and includes the refurbishment of existing stores and the fit-out of new Co-operative Food stores. Central England Co-operative is one of the UK’s largest independent co-operatives with over 400 trading outlets spanning 16 counties, from the heart of the nation to its eastern shores.


Key Client Appointments

Shaylor Group is once again on site at the University of Wolverhampton providing the design and construction of a new Elite Centre of Manufacturing Skills facility. The facility will deliver training classrooms, workshops for practical training in foundry and forging operations and additional working office spaces for key partners including The Institute of Cast Metal Engineers & The Cast Metal Federation.

We are delighted to be working with easyHotel on two city centre projects in Birmingham and Ipswich. Building on our experience in the leisure sector, we are transforming two previously established buildings into affordable hotel accommodation. Operating in the budget hotel sector, easyHotel aims to make travel more accessible by providing hotels in great city centre locations worldwide.

Working with one of the country’s leading private schools, we are drawing on our expertise in both the education sector and live environments to deliver a number of projects in the grounds of Bromsgrove School. The 18 month long scheme involves the supply, construction and completion of refurbishments, reconfiguration works and new build specialist Performing Arts Facilities.

Our second scheme currently on site in Greenford sees Shaylor Group carrying out the conversion and extension of an existing building to provide accommodation on behalf of Ealing Council. Located in the heart of a residential area, delivery of the project involves meticulous planning and co-ordination to provide regeneration opportunities whilst causing minimal disruption to the local community.


Awards Success

Construction Manager of the Year Finalist Places This year’s Construction Manager of the Year Awards was a night of shared success, with Operations Manager Dave Disney and Contracts Manager Phil Steele in the spotlight at the Finals ceremony. Phil Steele was named Finalist in the ‘New Build or Refurbishment up to £3 million’ category for his impeccable performance on the Rolls Royce Infrastructure Modification works project and Dave Disney was named Finalist in the “New Build or Refurbishment £7 million - £14 million” category for his outstanding leadership of the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) project.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Silver Award We are delighted to have been successful in the 60th year of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupation Health and Safety Awards. The awards recognise and celebrate excellence in safety performance and ongoing commitment to raising standards. We were presented with a Silver Award in the Industry Sector category in recognition of our Health and Safety management systems and continued contribution to raising standards in the construction industry as a whole.

Awards Success Building Safety Group Awards Double Success We are incredibly proud to have received double recognition at the second annual Building Safety Group (BSG) Awards. BSG are the largest safety group of their kind and are recognised as the UK’s leading experts in construction health, safety and environmental welfare. BSG aim to help members prevent accidents, protect their workforce from harm and still deliver projects on time and within budget. We are delighted that Shaylor Group was named as both the Midlands Member of the Year and overall UK Member of the Year. These are both tremendous achievements that show our commitment to safe working practices across the company.

Constructing Excellence 2016 Highly Commended Award After winning the ‘Heritage’ category at the West Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards earlier this year, our restoration of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Swan Wing received a ‘Highly Commended’ at the National Constructing Excellence Awards. The awards are part of a national programme that consists of nine regional awards covering England and Wales. The project involved comprehensive conservation repairs of the external and internal historic fabric, refurbishment and alteration of the internal finishes and fitting out of the interior as an exhibition space.


Project Highlights

Wells Cathedral School Performing Arts Facility Set in the beautiful city of Wells in Somerset, Shaylor Group delivered a world class music, learning and teaching facility at Wells Cathedral School. The new performing arts centre, Cedars Hall, provides a flexible, high quality space for use by the school and the wider community. The striking design places this landmark building at the centre of the school and has been completed with high end finishes. With a capacity for audiences of 350 the main recital hall is a flexible modern space able to accommodate an orchestra of 60 performers.

Chester Farm Heritage Restoration A truly exciting and challenging project, Shaylor Group is carrying out the restoration of Chester Farm, located on the banks of the River Nene in Northamptonshire. Funded by Heritage Lottery Fund and Northamptonshire County Council, the project aims to capture 10,000 years of Northamptonshire heritage on this extraordinary site. Home to a Roman walled town and traditional farm buildings dating back to the 17th Century, the restoration will provide interpretation, conference and training facilities, a cafe, county-wide archaeological resource centre, education facility and office space. 06


Project Highlights Atrium Point Residential Refurbishment Working once again with serial client Rooms & Studios, we are currently on site delivering the conversion of a former office block into 290 apartments and studios. Located in Greenford, London, the development will consist of a mixture of studios plus one and two bedroom apartments set in approximately 164,000 sqft of internal areas. The existing building will be converted and transformed into a contemporary residential scheme offering a diverse selection of residential units suitable for individuals and families alike.

Wildernesse House Luxury Retirement Community With roots tracing back to 1327, we are delighted to be working with Pegasus Life to restore Wildernesse House and its grounds to their former glory. Surrounded by acres of rolling Kent countryside, the community will provide an extraordinary collection of 19 one and two bedroom apartments on the upper floors of the main house, one and two bedroom ‘legacy’ apartments on the ground floor and 8 two bedroom mews houses in the newly built stable block. The project sees our internal divisions working seamlessly and collaboratively on a mix of new build, restoration and maintenance schemes with complementing elements.


Our Community Teenage Cancer Trust Charity Fundraising We are delighted to have surpassed the target set for our latest chosen corporate charity, the Teenage Cancer Trust. The entire company whole heartedly threw themselves behind the fundraising, which led to a magnificent total of £35,000 being raised over an 18 month period. The funds were raised from a range of initiatives including the Wolf Run, Fred Shaylor Golf Classic and Skydive for Stephen. We are immensely proud of our efforts in this year’s fundraising and heartfelt thanks go to all our supply chain and partners for their incredible support.

Walk Up the Wrekin Shaylor Group team members took part in a charity walk ‘Up the Wrekin’ whilst working on site at Hadley Learning Community. The Wrekin is a 1,335 feet high hill located in Shropshire often popular with walkers due to the views it provides once reaching the top. 1,500 children between the ages of 5 and 16 years old took part in the walk which covered approximately 5 miles of the 8.5 mile trail, with members of Shaylor Group acting as marshals at points on the route. The walk was organised as the school’s second ‘Charity Challenge’ to enable pupils to test themselves while also raising money for local charities Hope House, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund and Young at Heart. 08


Our Community Lord Digby Jones Delivers Keynote Speech at Annual Company Conference Shaylor Group’s annual company conference in November saw a world respected Keynote Speaker take the stage. British businessman and politician Lord Digby Jones delivered a rousing and inspiring speech to company staff, closing an insightful and informative afternoon. Lord Jones covered a number of topics particularly in relation to the anticipated effects of Brexit on the construction industry and commended the business for operating in a transparent and collaborative manner. The highlight of the afternoon saw Lord Jones present the Shaylor Group Awards, recognising key colleagues and teams’ performances.

Richard Sapcote Elected to the CIOB Board of Trustees In recognition of his outstanding industry knowledge and experience, Heritage Specialist Richard Sapcote has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Charted Institute of Building. Following an intense campaigning and election process Richard secured his place and will serve for a tenure of 3 years. This is a highly respected position throughout the industry as the CIOB Board of Trustees is legally responsible for the management of the Institute. The trustees make sure the Institute’s finances are sound and their operations are carried out in accordance with the regulations relating to charities and the Royal Charter.
