BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE

Client: London Borough of Hackney Framework: LHC Schools and Community Buildings Framework Value: £4.6m Location: London We were appointed to support the London Borough of Hackney in modernising Urswick School, an existing inner city secondary school. The project comprised a combination of both new build and refurbishment works to support the school’s increased capacity. We constructed a new stand-alone, four storey building consisting of classrooms, a Learning Resource Centre, group rooms, specialist server and plant rooms and ancillary spaces including a reception and toilets. Additionally, we completed an internal refurbishment of the existing main building to reconfigure the teaching spaces into a master science laboratory, inclusive of M&E with bespoke technology and drainage works.

Client: Stoke-on-Trent City Council Framework: LHC Schools and Community Buildings Framework Value: £4.6m Location: Stoke-on-Trent Through our involvement with the LHC Framework, we completed a selection of works at Newstead Academy to support the school’s growth. We were responsible for the design and construction of a single storey extension to the existing building comprising commercial kitchens, a hall expansion, eight new classrooms, offices and associated ancillary spaces. External works included the provision of a new courtyard, playground and disabled access ramp. Aligned with the school’s objectives, we had a sustainable focus throughout delivery, minimising the project’s environmental impact and the school’s carbon footprint.

Client: Ministry of Justice Framework: Strategic Alliance Agreement Framework Value: ÂŁ98.4m Location: London Works at HMP Wandsworth comprised the complete re-roofing of the existing rotunda and lantern roof lights, incorporating necessary structural timber repairs. The old slate roof was replaced by composite insulation boards with terne coated stainless steel covering to give a thermally efficient, maintenance free roof with an expected 50 year life span. As the prison was fully occupied, it was stated that no scaffolding could touch the ground floor and a temporary roof was required to prevent water ingress during operations. Our team devised a solution that entailed the installation of a working platform and integral waterproof barrier that was fixed to the internal brickwork upstands and the roof lantern.

Client: Ministry of Justice Framework: Strategic Alliance Agreement Framework Value: £98.4m Location: Shrewsbury We were appointed to transform the existing Shrewsbury Magistrates’ Court into two Crown Court spaces. Works included the complete strip-out of both the ground and first floors alongside the construction of a two-storey steel frame extension. The extension was blockwork cladded and, alongside the new Crown Courts, provided judge retirement rooms, jury assembly and deliberation rooms and witness prosecution spaces all fully fitted with specialist furniture. External landscaping was completed which included the design of a new vulnerable witness footpath and fire route strategy works. Throughout the project we invited stakeholders to complete regular site visits to review progress. This assisted in the making of key decisions where necessary and ensured the final project met end-user requirements.

Client: The London Borough of Ealing Project Value: ÂŁ8.1m Location: London We were appointed to deliver the conversion and extension of an existing hostel to create an additional 30 rooms. The phased project comprised the demolition and rebuild of an existing unsafe structure, alongside the construction of a new three storey timber frame extension with Trespa cladding to the front and rear elevations. Internally we provided a complete fit-out of the building with high-quality finishes and decoration, including the installation of kitchen units and bathroom pods in each room. The project was completed within a constrained compound on a residential estate which posed significant logistical challenges. We employed a dedicated banksman to co-ordinate deliveries and minimise any disruption to the local community.

The Poplars

Client: Cornwall Council Framework: Cornwall Council Capital Framework Framework Value: £13.5m Location: Newquay At Newquay Harbour we completed the construction of fishermen’s stores and offices, together with a number of improvements to the harbour side. The new building replaced a timber structure that had previously burnt down and consisted of seven stores on the ground floor, four first floor offices and accessible ancillary rooms. The new facility was constructed using deep piled foundations and ground beams to account for the poor ground conditions of the quay itself, and was finished with a natural Brazilian slate roof to match an adjacent RNLI building. The front elevation also incorporated natural stone walling bedded with natural lime mortar to ensure the new building was in keeping with the Grade II listed status of the harbour.

Client: Mapeley Estates Framework: Mapeley STEPS Framework Value: £30m Location: Nationwide Under the Mapeley STEPS Framework we were appointed to carry out the full refurbishment of existing government offices in Portsmouth. Works included new carpets, ceilings and decorations throughout, alongside the creation of an events centre, bespoke hubs, kitchen and feature walkway across the space. Minimising disruption, the majority of demolition works were carried out during the facility’s Christmas shutdown. Working in a live office environment, segregated construction zones were established and all noisy or disruptive works were scheduled out of hours.

Client: Department for Work and Pensions Framework: Crown Commercial Services Fit-Out Framework Framework Value: ÂŁ3.2m Location: Bargoed Our project in Bargoed saw the fit-out of an existing retail unit to provide a new Jobcentre Plus facility. Works incorporated both front and back of house services to create a modern environment including office spaces, welfare facilities and meeting rooms. Works comprised the full redecoration of the unit to branding specifications, offering high-quality finishes including the installation of all fixtures and fittings, the provision of a new mezzanine floor, new partitions and platform lift. Our team built a positive relationship with the client and we are now supporting DWP with their delivery of lifecycle works across the UK.
